Chapter 8 Escaping the Inevitable

 As Commander Pixis and our little group made our way toward the top of the wall the conversation became somewhat unusual.  As Armin and I carried Eren up and let him use our bodies as support I could not just see , but smell the fear radiating off of him. It took a lot for me not to burst out laughing at this prepubescent teen's anxiety. 

Pixis  raised his container  , filled with what I assumed was some sort of alcoholic beverage , up to his lips and sighed. " I guess I'll never find one... I wouldn't mind being eaten by one of those titans if she happened to be a stunning beauty."  I smirked  at this comment and decided to throw in my two cents. " Ahh yes , a ravines woman bit on the destruction of man kind. ! I never thought of you as a fan of ' cannibalism' sir!" The three kids gave me sideways glances as I voiced my thoughts. Pixis , however, just looked at me for a second and smiled. I never thought i would see a young girl with such a sense of humor during this time! It's good to know I'm not the only one with my head in the sky!" 

He chuckled for a bit , but then his jolly face turned into one of seriousness. " I see so going to that basement would answer all of your questions." Eren spoke up with weariness evident in his voice. " Yes sir. Do you believe me? " He then took a swift turn toward us with the same small smirked adorned on my face mere seconds ago. " For now I'll keep in mind everything for which you can't provide any positive proof for by yourself. I believe that is the best course of action. However provided you intend to obtain material that could make sense of this whole mess I will personally see to your protection and that of your friends."  They look toward him with shock in their eyes asking themselves ' is this too good to be true?'.

As Pixis called out Armin name he stiffened up ready to be questioned. " You mentioned something earlier about using some manner of ' titan's power ' might be enable us to recapture the town I believe. Did you really mean that or was that just a desperate plea for your life? " He paused for a second and then looked upwards toward Pixis as if he were taking a stance to prove he was strong. " It was both sir. What i meant back then is than an ' Eren - turned - titan could carry that large rock to the destroyed gate in order to block it. Just a simplistic that I came up with. I wanted to believe that Eren's power could help us disentangle the situation. Of course , I really really wanted to avoid execution ,but-" Walking over to Eren , kneeling down on his knees and placing a hand on Eren's  shoulder he question with a small smile , 'Can you close up the hole?' Eren looked discouraged and disappointed. Pixis sighed and then spoke up again. " Please forgive be what I meant to say is ' Will you try to close up the hole?' . " Erenpaused for a second and then his expressioned hardened to that of a stubborn and proud soldier. " I'll see to it sir! No matter what!"

"Well said, spoken like a soldier!" He then turned away and called his most talented and wise out of the Garrison Body to meat him at the top of the wall. As Eren , Mikasa , and Armin conversed to each other about how ludicrous this plan was and how death was imminent and how they would not only have to watch their own backs but those of millions of other soldiers who's fate , who's future , who's life and who's death were left in their hands.  

Just like roaches they somehow manage to find their way out of anything but just like small rats who have shortly escaped death it is still lurking around the corner waiting to plunge their fangs into them and then swallow them whole. And when that happens I will be waiting their to view their oh so tragic yet sweet release of death.
