Chapter 14: Reason #17

Reason #17: I will never doubt you and your actions 

"Jin, starting today, you'll be accompanied by a bodyguard. The house will be under lockdown. And the kids, under Rei's request, will be staying with Aki for the meanwhile. Until we find Kaoru, the kids will be dropped here then return with Aki and his lover." Haru explained, a serious glint in his eyes telling me there was no room for negotiation.

My body deflated at the news. I can't believe this. Shun and Shin not in the same house as me would destroy me. And it's not because I don't trust Aki and Rio, they're the kids' godparents so I know they're trustworthy people. 

But.

It's like taking a huge part of you far from your body that you've gotten accustomed to. It's devastating. 

Rei eyed me in worry as I sat in the living room, watching with lifeless eyes Haru's lips move but the sound long drowned out. 

"Are you listening, Jin?" I blinked at him before straightening up, glancing down at the playing toddlers. 

"Yeah, Bodyguard, me. Aki and Rio, babies. Right?" I said in annoyance, rainsing my brow for conviction. I was still skeptical about this. I had a lot of questions about this so-called plan of theirs. It felt like it had a lot of holes, a lot of room for mistakes. 

I cleared my throat, standing up as I stared at Haru straight in the eye. I had to have conviction if I was going to question him. One can't just doubt him without really believing there was a hole in everything he did.

"Why do I feel like I'm missing something here?" I turned my gaze to Rei, retaining the same expression. "It's like this plan is just full of holes. Do you have a contingent? Why haven't you mentioned that part?" My hands automatically positioned on my hips, making me look feminine with the way I acted. Well, I can't help that. When you've resigned yourself to being called 'Mommy', you'd embrace a few more womanly traits.

I saw Rei and Haru exchange looks as if they were debating on telling me. Something smelled fishy and I wasn't going to part with Shun and Shin without a fight. 

I heard Rei sigh as he turned his eyes to look into mine. My eyes challenging his blank stare. Something is going on and I want part of it.

"Baby, trust me. If we had a Plan B, I'd be more than happy to tell you that. It's you we're protecting here, as well as the kids. But, there's none. You just have to trust Haru and I. We won't let anything happen to you guys. Okay?" He said before walking up to me and embracing me tightly. 

Something's really wrong.

Rei's unsettled and Haru is silent when he'd usually reprimand me. 

What the hell is going on? 

"Come with me, Jin." Rei whispered, as he let me go and taking my hand in his. He smiled lightly before guiding me to the library. I was reluctanct, let me tell you that. I still had a lot of questions for Haru and Rei pulling me wouldn't be helping in answering those questions.

Rei closed the door after me and gestured me to the loveseat in there. I groaned in frustration, he was silent and I was irritated. Two combinations that should never mix, this I learned during my pregnancy.

"Are you going to talk now?" I asked, my voice sharper than usual. 

Rei sighed once again, closing his eyes as he concentrated. "Jin, please. I just need you to work with me, baby. I know it's hard. I know you don't want the kids far from you. You're not the only one who has doubts with this plan. I do, too. But." Again, another sigh. I was seriously getting irritated with his constant sighing. "I know this will work. We'll catch Kaoru in no time. And we won't be putting the kids in danger."

He smiled, looking straight ahead at nothing in particular. He looked as if he was contemplating about something. Something he wasn't going to share with me.

I let out a breath of frustration, my brows meeting in irritation. I won't be getting anything out of him. So, better just leave it at that. I trust them both, Rei especially. This is me and his kids we're talking about. He wouldn't put us in danger even if his life depended on it.

"Okay. This will end and this will end soon." I muttered under my breath, the anger dissipating. Rei looked back at me, his eyes roaming my face. I did the same as a smile crept up my lips. Rei returned the gesture before pecking my lips a few times, making me giggle uncontrollably.

"Oh, right. I got this for you." He said with a smile as he pulled out an earring. His smile was idiotic and I couldn't help but smile at him. The earring was small and hardly noticeable when he placed it on my ear. But, it did shine when the light hit it at the right angle. 

"It feels like I don't have anything on. What kind of earring is this?" I asked, laughing at his pouting face. 

"It's an earring I received from Rio and Aki from their weekend trip. I have the same one on my right ear, see." He turned his head to the side to show me the accessory. I smirked at him, it really was unnoticeable if you just glanced at it. "It's a 'couple's earring. They said it was a symbol, from where they got it, that kept couples safe and made the bond last forever."

I chuckled at the thought. But, secretly, I was really touched about it. I carefully touched my pierced ear, grazing the tiny crystal it had.

"Come on. Haru said he'd introduce the bodyguard in charge of you today. So,get up." He exclaimed, pulling me on my feet before dragging me out the door. 

"Done?" Haru asked, keeping his gaze on Rei. I looked up at Rei and saw him nod, his hand tightening his grip on mine.

"Jin, meet Tora." Haru sidestepped before a man as tall as him stood beside him. His posture stiff and his aura deadly. He had such an impact that my body had trembled at the sight of him. "He'll be in charge of you."

I nodded at him, keeping my gaze at Tora's grey eyes. Something about him screamed 'dangerous'. But, maybe that's the message Haru was trying to say to Kaoru who might be lurking in the dark.

Still. I can't shake this fear off. 

I must be finally admitting things were getting serious. Maybe. No. That must be it.

Right?
