Chapter 13: Reason #18

Reason #18: Your warmth is a constant reminder that I'm here, safe with you

"-as like this." 

Huh? 

"-is is serious!"

Who's talking? 

"-at bastard is freaking Jin out. You're a powerful man. Why can't you find him?"

I lift my eyelids slowly. For some reason, they feel like they're tied to weights that are pulling them down.

"-on't care how. I'll find him."

Haru? 

"He's up."

Rei? 

What the hell? What time is it?

"Rei?" I groaned out, surprised at how hoarse my voice sounded. My eyes blinking as I try to focus on the familiar face that was looking at me in concern.

"Jin, baby. Are you alright?" He asked, taking my face in his hands. He was seriously worried, I could tell. So I nodded in response, not trusting my voice to convey the message correctly. He pursed his lips in disagreement but let it pass as he tried to help me sit up.

"Jin." I looked past Jin to see Haru watching me closely. His hand holding a familiar package. Where could I have seen that?

"Rei came home to you already passed out and the TV playing something." I stiffened, my eyes immediately widening at the memory.

That's right.

I watched a video message from Kaoru. He threatened me. Then. Then.

Then what?

"Baby, we watched the video." My widened eyes returned to Rei, his face frowning as he looked at me. "I came home to you passed out on the bed in an awkward position. Then, I saw the TV playing a CD. I guessed you watched that and fell asleep. Only after watching it did I thought you fainted. From fear. Anger. I don't know. You just fainted. So I called Haru and he came home immediately and watched it. And. Now we're here."

I frowned, my breaths turning shallow. That's right. I started crying, my voice strained from the sobs I tried to stifle. That's why. I get it.

"Rei, I'll go and get this done immediately. In the meantime, you should feed the boys. They just woke up and are now cranky." Haru turned around and headed for the door. As he twisted the knob and walked forward, he added: "I'll call for you if I've come up with something, Rei."

Rei nodded slightly, never tearing his gaze from my face. His hands slid down to wrap my hands as he tried to smile at me. I smiled, feeling comfortable again. It was just me, him and the boys. And right now, the boys aren't feeling as comfortable as I was, judging from their rising cries. 

"Someone's cranky." I whispered, making Rei chuckle. He stood up, planted a kiss on my temple and reached for the raging babies. I watched him try to pick Shin up while Shun was thrashing in his arms, desperately trying to reach me. 

"Relax, relax. There's mommy over there, okay. He's got some milk. He's-" Shin pulled Rei's hair as they walked back. I saw Rei cringe in pain as he tried to walk to me faster. "Hey! Shin, let go. You're hurting daddy. Shin!" 

The noise in the room only increased as Rei carefully gave Shun while he tried to remove his hair from Shin's death grip. I laughed softly at them before looking down to find Shun pushing my shirt up. I smiled down at him before reaching the shirt over my head, thoroughly removing it as Shun attacked my nipple as soon as he saw it. Shin, on the other hand, kept wildly thrashing when he saw his brother feeding. 

"Don't worry. Mom's got another one that has your name written all over it." Rei muttered as he sat on the bed and positioned an angry Shin in my arms. I looked at both of them in amusement as Rei tried to place Shin in a comfortable position but the latter had already latched on to me, making it harder for Rei.

I heard him groan and I chuckled at the frustration he had. Shin could be really stubborn if he wanted to.

"Finally." He said in a relieved tone, admiring his handiwork. Rei always had this weird fascination of watching his sons suckle my chest. He said it looked like two baby 'Rei's ravishing me. The conversation always ended up with him getting whacked on the head and ignored until he promises to never mention it. Again.

My God. These are his kids, for God's sake.

"Rei." I called out softly, making his eyes raise and rest on my face. A relaxed smile plastered on his lips as he made his way behind me and sat there, his legs stretched as wide as he could to accomodate me. As I leant back, my head resting on the crook of his shoulder, he wrapped his arms around us. His warmth spreading all over my body in delicious waves. 

"We need to keep the kids away from me. I don't want them tangled up with this mess. It's already more than I can handle with Kaoru chasing you, I don't want to endanger our own kids." He explained, sighing softly as he planted a kiss on my nose.

I nodded, casting my eyes down to my two little angels. Both of us didn't want to put our kids in harm's way. Kaoru was going to hurt me, I couldn't bear it if I let Shun and Shin go through what I did.

"I'm sorry, Rei." I whispered, hugging my babies.

"What will we do?" I asked, my voice shaking. It would be hard if my kids had to stay with someone else. I don't know if I could trust them with Shun and Shin. What if my kids didn't like it there? What if they couldn't sleep?

"We'll see. Haru said he was working something up. So, let's just wait for him." I sat up straight, giving Shin to Rei so he could burp him as I burped Shun.

Knock! Knock! 

"It's Haru. Can I talk to you, Rei?" 

"I'll come back as soon as I'm done. Just stay with the kids." He muttered, embracing me before kissing my lips softly. I sighed against them and returned my gaze to the playing twins on the bed.

I know Haru will come up with something. I know Rei will do everything to protect me. Everything will be fine and things will go back to normal.

"Please let this nightmare end."
