I walked into my math class after eating lunch with Layla, and expected the class to be full as it always is, but this time there were only a few kids getting seated. I glanced at the clock, wondering if I accidentally walked in earlier than usual.
I hated going to class too early because it was always silent and awkward. The silence ceased when Cameron and a few his friends walked in.
I buried myself in my notebook, forgetting about this class I shared with him. If he noticed me, I wouldn't be able to tell because I was busying myself with a loose piece of paper in my backpack. I really hope this class goes by fast.
The teacher finally stood up from her desk chair and stood in front of the class to discuss the objective for today. I took this time to slowly glance over at Cameron. He lazily watched the teacher as she talked; I never thought that he of all people would find my crush on Dylan that obvious. He seems like the kind of person that only pays attention to himself and his group of friends.
He turned his head and I snapped my eyes back to the teacher, hoping he hadn't caught me practically gawking at him. I was just confused, that's all. Someone who hasn't talked to me before is suddenly paying attention to my weak attempts to talk to the love of my life, and I don't really know what to think of it.
I tried to think of any random memories I may have had of Cameron. I think he was on the football team freshman year because I remember staring at the photos of the football team in the yearbook constantly because Dylan just looked so majestic. I don't really remember anything else, though.
Suddenly, I hear my name being called. I whip my head to the side, not recognizing the voice behind it. It was Dylan, who sat only a few seats to my right. Dylan was looking at me with a grin on his face. "I like your sweater. That's my favorite basketball team."
I looked down and noticed that I was wearing my dad's old Lakers jersey. I didn't care about basketball at all, but I loved the warmth the sweater gave me.
I nervously smiled, and bent the truth a little, "Yea, me too."
Dylan smiled and nodded, then focused his attention back to the teacher.
Okay, what just happened?
I was pleasantly surprised. Since when did Dylan randomly compliment me about my choice in sweaters. This wasn't the first time I wore this sweater, too. Maybe he actually noticed me today. I blushed and hid my face with my long sleeves.
After the bell rang, I took my time gathering my things, watching Dylan leave.
When I threw my backpack over my shoulder, Cameron appeared by my side and smirked down at me.
"You're welcome," was all he said.
I furrowed my eyebrows as I looked up at him. "For what?"
"For getting Dylan to notice you," he said casually.
Why was he butting into my life (my nonexistent love life to be specific) all of a sudden?
"What are you talking about," I said, raising my voice. "Why did you do that?"
He scratched his neck nervously, and said, "Because I kind of need something from you."
