Once I got home from an excruciatingly long day at school, I quickly prepared for the tutoring lesson with Cameron.
He was going to be here in about 10 minutes so I didn't have a lot of time.
I removed the mugs left around the house, as well as other unnecessary objects that weren't put away. It's not that I really wanted to make an effort for Cameron, I just wanted to be a little presentable.
After the quick cleaning spree, the doorbell rang. I rushed down the stairs, even though my parents weren't home.
Standing at the door, with a backpack on one shoulder was Cameron. He nodded his head at me, and I opened my door wider.
"Hey," I said, pulling at the drawstrings of the hoodie I changed into.
"Hi," he replied. "You live really close to school," he said after a few seconds of silence.
"Yea, I can always hear the cheering from the football games," I said. It was quite annoying sometimes.
"I bet if you climbed on your roof, you could just watch it for free," he said, unzipping his backpack.
"I never thought of that. But then again, I don't really care about watching football," I said with a smirk.
I led him to the living room where I threw my backpack earlier. We sat on the couch and got out our textbook and materials.
"So, should we start with what we're learning right now?" I asked, not knowing what to do since I've never actually tutored anyone before.
"I guess. It'd be pretty useless to learn the previous lessons 'cause I already failed those tests, so..." he replied.
I sighed and nodded. This was going to be a lot of work. I was good at math but I wasn't good enough to actually help somebody pass.
We opened our books to the page written on our homework assignment, and I started with the first problem, seeing that he hadn't even attempted it.
He messily scratched his name on his paper and waited for me to explain what to do.
Guess he really hasn't been paying attention in class. "Okay, so number one is asking to find x. There are formulas given for certain problems and shapes," I started.
When I looked over at him, I noticed how his eyebrows furrowed together in confusion. He was paying attention though, which was good.
For the rest of the lesson, we only got through 3 problems because I spent most of the time explaining how to solve them. I think that was enough for one hour's worth.
As he threw his belongings into his backpack, I decided to ask him about how he would even get Dylan to consider going on a date with me.
"Let me worry about that, and you worry about my grades," he replied with a smug smile.
I scoffed, "Seriously? You're not going to clue me in here?"
That made me a little nervous. But at this point, I am desperate for Dylan's attention and hopefully I can trust Cameron.
"Do you even have a plan?" I asked, doubtful.
"I know Dylan's type, trust me. You're not far from it, so consider that a good thing," he said, looking me up and down.
Even though he completely dodged the question, I couldn't help but hold onto the fact that I'm "somewhat" Dylan's type. I could feel my heart skip a beat.
"What's his type?" I asked, even though I already had an idea.
I could tell Cameron was getting annoyed with all the questions, but he still answered, "Well, he typically goes for short girls, but then again he is really freaking tall so that doesn't narrow it down, and I'm pretty sure he's a sucker for girls with big, brown eyes."
I opened my mouth a little, but closed it because I didn't know what to say. I kind of felt a little self conscious just because Cameron was really examining how I looked.
Cameron awkwardly stood by the door, waiting for me to say something.
"Well, if I'm his type, why hasn't he ever talked to me before?" I questioned.
He threw his backpack over his shoulder, and said, "Why don't you ask him? I can't read his mind, you know."
I glared at him as he opened the door and took his car keys out of his pocket.
After letting out Cameron, I decided to throw some frozen pizza into the oven and watch whatever movie was playing at the moment.
However, instead of paying attention to the movie, I couldn't keep Dylan out of my mind. I was getting flustered, thinking that I should probably dress nicer since he could potentially be paying attention to me now.
My mind wandered back to when Cameron told me the girl Dylan kissed wouldn't be a problem. I was the most skeptical about that. I mean how can someone just kiss someone platonically? It wasn't just a quick peck, but a 20 second make-out session. For once, I should probably listen to Cameron and just let him worry about this. This felt completely out of my hands and I don't know how else to get Dylan to notice me, so I guess I have no choice but to rely on Cameron.
I couldn't help but feel like something was going to go wrong, though.
