Ella Ronson was admitted to the mental institution Briarcliff Manor at the age of eighteen.
Her parents were the ones to admit her, claiming that she was majorly depressed and had constant suicidal thoughts, which wasn't true of course, her parents just wanted a quick way to get rid of her.
The doctors believed anything to get a new patient. Sister Jude would claim she was saving people but the experiments that would go on in those walls would beg to differ.
It's been a few years now and Ella is tired. She's tired of the same routine, of the same shitty excuses for them to test something new on her and she's especially tired of the same song everyday.
It was all so boring, she was constantly alone and she hated it but she adapted to it. She even made friends with a French girl of the name Grace and even though they said she was a murderer the way Grace defended herself made Ella believe that maybe she truly was innocent and continued to create a friendship with her.
The two girls were sat at a small table in the common room, a cigarette in between Ella's rosy lips. Normally she would've never thought of smoking but this place practically drives you to smoke. It relieves stress.
"You bored?" Grace questioned her, nails clicking on the table. "Do I really need to answer that?" She replied, a dry laugh escaping her lips. She wasn't one to show much emotion unless it was annoyance.
"You know Bloody Face? The guy that kills all those women?" She had asked her.
"Everyone knows him, why?" Ella answered with her own question, wondering how this fit into her being bored.
She leaned over a bit, her eyes scanning around to see if anyone was listening in on them or watching them before whispering, "Supposedly, he's bein admitted here. Today."
Ella's right eyebrow raised, actually interested for once during a conversation, "you'll kick his ass if he tries to attack me, yes?" She joked, another dry laugh leaving her lips.
Grace simply nodded her head. The doors had opened so Ella assumed she was engulfed by the person entering. She had been so interested that she got up, leaving her without a word.
Ella's green hues left the wooden table, seeing where Grace had wandered to and she was by the record player talking to a man who had almost broken one of the biggest rules. His ass would've been sore.
One of the other patients spoke up and the newbie was now identified as Bloody Face. Ella had a strange feeling, he didn't look like a killer. Not to her at least. He honestly looked genuinely confused and she could tell anger ran through his veins as he was accused of killing his wife.
A fight began between the two and as soon as Grace jumped on the patient Ella took her chance to stand and rush over to the three, grabbing onto the murderer's arm, "get up you idiot, they'll kill you if they see you fighting." She hissed to him and for once in her life a man actually listened to her. He seemed serene as he stood and she led him back over to the familiar table.
Grace had made it out of the fight but surprisingly didn't venture over to the pair.
"The colored girl. She was your wife, yeah?" It was a personal question but she was curious and if it had been his wife then she didn't believe someone could just kill there soulmate like that - crazy or not.
"Yeah..." He was quiet, obviously not planning to elaborate on the gruesome subject.
Ella held out a cigarette to him before asking the million dollar question, "did you kill her?"
His chocolate eyes glanced from her to the cigarette and back to her as he slowly took offering, "No." And that was all it took. She believed that he didn't kill her and more importantly she believed he wasn't the infamous Bloody Face.
"My name's Ella and I'm in here because I'm supposedly depressed and I constantly have suicidal thoughts." And she could never say that phrase without rolling her eyes, hating the way she had arrived here."But you're not?" He questioned as she lit the deadly stick for him, watching how he inhaled and exhaled, something she had always done.
"Course not. My parents just wanted to get rid of me." She replied before lighting her own cigarette. "What's your name?"
"That sucks, 'm sorry." Once the apology left his lips the girl froze in place, her eyes simply trained on him. The way he spoke was sincere, as if he was actually sorry and it's not that she hadn't heard an apology before its just that she hadn't heard a real one in a while. It was refreshing. "Kit. Kit Walker." She heard once she was zoned back in on the conversation.
"Well Kit, I'm assuming Grace filled you in on the rules, yeah?" And he simply nodded softly in reply. "Good. You're gonna need to know all the twists in here. It's the only way you'll survive."
The two sat in silence for a minute, finishing their stress relievers before starting up a completely different conversation, "how long you been here?" He asked her.
"Too long." Was all she replied with because she didn't actually know. You know when you got there but slowly you forget what day it is. Sometimes you can gamble on what month it is by the look of the outside but besides that you're completely clueless.
"You ever tried escapin?"
A small sigh came from Ella as she stared him right in the eyes, "This place is hell but no one's ever stupid enough to try and escape and if you're smart you won't try too. Once you're admitted to Briarcliff you never get out. We're all going to die here and there's nothing we can do about it." Ella pushed back her seat so she could stand, "don't try anything. It'll make things worse." And with that she left the speechless man, rubbing her forehead, sighing at the pounding headache she had.
She approached one of the sisters, putting on her sick face, "'M not feeling real well sister. Can I go lay down?" And of course she nodded, beginning to lead her from the common room.
On the way out Ella took one last glance at Kit and realized his eyes had been trained on her the whole time.
