ANNABEL'S WORDS kept ringing in Dean's brain.

«You know, sometimes you get this brilliant and wonderful image of someone and once you meet them you only end up disappointed?»

He didn't know why but ever since she had said that, Dean couldn't help but think that it was something Annabel was scared of.

Not being enough, being rejected by someome she truly loved.

And after saying that, she had been totally silent, losing all interest in the conversation as she looked away in the flames of the chimney, ignoring Dean's insistant gaze. He remembered that moment clearly because it was when he truly realised that Annabel had been hiding things from everyone, from him,  and that he had not noticed up until that moment.

In a matter of seconds, Dean was out of his room, walking down the stairs leading to the girls' dormitories. It took a bit of convincing but, eventually, Lavender let him go in as she was leaving the room, making it easy for him to understand that it would only be the two of them.

And she was there, sitting on the floor with her knees tucked against her chest and a strand of dark hair falling on the side of her face as she was looking at the sky through the window.

And Dean stared.

For the first time of his life, he was contemplating Annabel like he had never done before, as if something had changed, as if she seemed different in the way he was now considering her. He didn't know what it was just yet. What he was sure was that it had never happened to him before.

"Annabel?"

The sound of her name being pronounced so softly made her jump up and turn around, her face contorted in a weird and surprised frown as she took in the presence of Dean.

"What are you doing here?" Annabel answered in a slightly harsh tone.

"Uh.. I just wanted to know if you were all right? What you said earlier made me wonder if things weren't bothering you.."

Her facial expression softened and she smiled, "No, I'm all good, don't worry Dean."

"Of course I worry, you're one of my best friends and I care about you."

Her stomach was twitching as Annabel took in what Dean was saying. She wished he meant it another way but she couldn't change the way their friendship had grown to be.

Well, if she wanted, she might still have a chance to.
