Chapter 15
Harry's POV
I picked up Stella and we drove to a nearby Starbucks. Christina said she wasn't feeling well this morning, so I decided to take Stella out instead. We ordered our coffee and sat outside. It was a sunny day, which is why we took full advantage and sat in the sun. Stella smiled and sipped her coffee, and immediately I got nervous. I didn’t know how to phrase what I wanted to tell her, it was just a bunch of thoughts and questions scrambled in my head.
“Stella.” I got her attention and she silently gestured for me to go on. “I messed up with Christina. I - well I kissed her when she was in a very vulnerable state. I know what I did was wrong, but I wanna get her back.” That was basically what I needed to say...
She smiled and sighed. I took that as a bad sign. “Harry, she doesn’t want to fall in love.”
“What do you mean?”
“I shouldn’t tell you this.” Stella shook her head swirling her straw around in her coffee.
“Please Stella, I really like her. I care for her a lot and I want to show her that.” I knew I was head over heels for Christina and I just wanted to be with her, especially right now with what happened to her. But I moved too fast, and now my only way to get her back is through Stella.
“Fine, I’ll tell you.” She sighed and set her coffee down after taking a sip.
“Christina has been with a few guys, but each relationship ended bad. She always was the one that got the short straw in the end; she was always the one to get her heart broken. She finally gave up after her last relationship. His name was Eric, and he left her for another girl. She was devastated; she truly loved him, which is why it hurt even more when he left. That was it after that; she just couldn’t take it anymore. She kept telling me that she will never fall in love again, and that way she won’t ever get hurt. Harry, Christina is hard to love. She pushed guys out of her life. That’s probably why she yelled at you for making a move.”
It all seemed to come together and make sense. What Stella just told me made me feel even more like a dick for what I did to her. I took a deep breath and asked the question I’ve been dreading, “So then do I even have a chance?”
She started to smile. “I think you are going to be the guy that changes her view on love.” I was surprised but ecstatic, joy swarmed in my whole body. I had a shot! “You have to prove her wrong though. You have to show her that love is a beautiful thing, that it’s not sad and cruel. All her life she has had a negative view on love. ” Stella sighed, like she was internally arguing with herself about withholding certain information.
"What is it Stella?" I asked her, anxious that she will give me more help.
"I definitely should not tell you this, but seeing as you care for her so much, I think this will be good for you to know." I nodded agreeing with her and waited patiently for her to start.
"Christina was abused. Not just as a child. Her father would hurt her, all the way up to her 18th birthday when she decided to move out here. She moved so she could get away from all that. She has trust issues, Harry. She only trusts me because I grew up with her, but with everyone else, it is very difficult. That is why she is giving you a hard time, she can't trust you yet. She doesn't know what love is because her father never gave it to her and neither did the lads she dated. She's a mess, and you need to help fix her. You're going to be the one to change her, I know it."
I nodded, understanding. It wasn’t going to be easy since she has been thinking that love is terrible for so long, but I want to show her how much I love her. She deserves to be loved, especially because she's never been loved.
“You really fancy her don’t you?” I nodded smiling. I do, I really like her. She bit her lip and smiled. “Good, because I can’t think of anyone better for her.”
I smiled wider hearing this and I was just about to tell her thank you when we got interrupted. A tall pale girl, who was very beautiful with bright blue eyes and dark brown hair rushed over to me. She held a tape recorder in her hands and had a big bright devious smile on her face.
“Hi Harry, could you just answer a couple of questions for me?” She asked, pushing the recorder closer to my face.
“Erm, I’m kind of with someone at the moment.” I looked toward Stella who looked annoyed. She was used to this though, having dated Zayn for a while now. I sighed, “Okay, just a few questions.”
She grinned and started with the first question. “Who is the mystery girl you were seen with a week ago?”
I rolled my eyes. “She is a dear friend of mine.”
“Are you too dating?”
“No.”
“Are you interested in dating her? Can we get a name?”
“That is none of your business.” I clearly stated. I looked over at Stella who was spacing out. I followed her gaze to the reporter’s pants to find a splotch of paint dried into her jeans.
“Excuse me, what is your name?” Stella spoke up, taking the reporters attention away from me.
“Vicky. Vicky Sans.” The reporter answered then turned back to me, ignoring Stella.
“I’m sorry, but I think you two are finished. Harry can you please take me home now?” Stella spoke hurriedly and stood up, grabbing her coffee off the table.
I nodded and followed her lead. I turned toward Vicky, “I think I gave you enough, have a good day.” I rushed after Stella who was already standing by the car.
We got in and I drove off toward Zayn’s house. “What was that all about?” I asked her, referring toward her change in mood.
“That reporter, Vicky, I think she’s got something to do with Christina. Drop me off at her flat, I have to talk to her.” Stella instructed me, a concentrated look adorning her facial features.
I drove to Christina’s flat and parked the car, expecting to get out. “Where are you going?” Stella asked me as I unbuckled my seat belt.
“I’m gonna come in with you.” I explained, looking oddly at her.
“Okay, fine.” She said after a few moments.
I grabbed my keys and phone and locked the door trying to keep up with Stella who was running up to the door. She knocked twice and waited as I finally caught up and stood next to her. I heard the click of the door unlocking and seconds later, Christina was standing in front of us looking beautiful like always. Wow, I am so in over my head.
Christina’s POV
“I need to tell you something.” Was the first thing that came out of Stella’s mouth when she opened the door.
But she wasn’t the one I was looking at. Harry was standing next to her, shyly smiling at me. His curls flailing out as the small breeze blew through them. As soon as we locked eyes, he blinked twice and smiled looking innocent for once. I wondered if Stella got a ride from him. I looked at her and noticed she had a coffee in her hands.
“Where did you go with him?” I asked curiously.
She didn’t reply, instead she came in and went straight to the kitchen where my laptop was settled on the counter. She turned it on and opened up the article about Harry and I, which has gotten a lot more publicity since it came out. She scrolled to the bottom and shouted, “I knew it!”
She turned toward me, “What’s the name of the creepy girl in your art class?”
“Vicky. Why?” I asked, totally confused. I grabbed her coffee that she set on the counter and took a sip.
“You’ll never believe me, but I think she was there when you got raped.” After that, I froze.
