I opened my eyes slowly, taking in the sleeping boy whose chest I was lying on. His eyes were closed, his long eyelashes brushing the tops of his cheeks. His lips were parted slightly and as he breathed his chest rose and sunk. He looked so peaceful and content; I would feel much too bad waking him up. So I closed my eyes again.
A couple of minutes later I felt him stir. I sat up and looked at him, watching as he arched his back in stretch and a typical morning groan. Then he sat up against the wall and smiled a sleepy smile at me, his eyelids drooping slightly.
“Morning,” he said huskily. I smiled as he wrapped his arm around me and pulled me to his side.
“Morning,” I said, resting my head on his warm shoulder.
“How did you sleep?” he whispered into my ear, sending shivers running down my spine.
“Great,” I said, turning my head to face his.
He leaned down and placed a small kiss on my lips before heaving himself out of bed.
“I’m going to go back upstairs,” I told him, climbing out from his warm bed and landing on the cold wooden floor with a shiver.
“I’ll see you later,” he said, handing me my jersey and pair of school tracksuit pants that I had been wearing.
“Sure,” I said, standing up on my toes and planting a kiss on his lips.
He immediately grabbed my waist and kissed me properly until I started to laugh and he pulled away, a smile on his lips.
“I love you,” he said as I exited the room.
“Love you too,” I said, closing the door behind me and smiling widely.
Later that day I decided to go for a run. I got changed into my things and started jogging towards the track. I did a few laps, only to find I was so much less fit than I had assumed. Panting heavily, I walking into the sports centre to use the bathroom and find something to drink. I wish I had never entered.
Standing in the middle of the hall next to a punching bag was a couple. They were laughing and seemed to be having a good time. Then the girl suddenly leaned into the guy and started making out with him. I wouldn’t have minded one bit if the couple hadn’t been Ronny and Ryan.
I jumped back, managing to knock into a pot plant and cause a crash to echo around the hall. The couple looked up at me and I started sprinting out of the centre, my blood boiling in jealously. I sprinted around the centre until I was sitting on the ground with my head in my knees.
Why the hell was I jealous?
Ryan and I had possibly had something, but it was very much over and very much in the past. So why had my heart broken when I saw him kissing Ronny? And having fun with her like he used to do with me? Why was it that I felt betrayed and jealous and angry?
“Marley?” I looked to my right and saw Ryan standing there, in a pair of school shorts, running shoes and a grey vest. My heart ached again, but I ignored it and turned away from him.
“What?” I asked a little more forcefully than I had intended.
I heard him sigh and then felt his arm brushing with mine as he sat down next to me, leaving a trail of burning skin behind.
“Why are you annoyed?” he said. I turned to face him and saw his eyebrows were raised, the crinkles in his forehead looking absolutely adorable. His brown eyes were wide and questioning.
