She walked and walked until her feet went numb and her legs barely held her up. She couldn't get out of there fast enough. That monster deserved to die alone in his own tears. What kind of King was he? To treat his subjects in such a way, the kingdom deserved better. Not some selfish coward like him. She spotted a poster on an ancient tree with a picture of the little devil with some fancy writing scrawled on the bottom.

Fuming, she drew one of her lesser blades and threw it across the dirt road. It hit center. Right in between his eyes. She grunted and walked away, leaving the dagger there. Let the townsfolk see his treachery.

She thought back to how jittery some of the councilmen had been, and how his wife had looked close to tears when she left her husband's chambers.

She'd heard of this type of thing before in faraway realms, Kings using their wives as playthings, not equals. Women being outspoken for being, well, women.

She kicked a pile of mud up into the air in her anger, dust flying everywhere. She sneezed as some went up her nose and made it itchy.

"Having some trouble?" A familiar voice called out.

"No," She immediately replied before even looking up.

"I can see that."

She looked up after dusting herself off and saw the one and only Ember Roades.

Where did he even get that name?

"Oh, you."

He chuckled before replying.

"Yes, me. Have you thought about my offer?" She stiffened up and glanced away, then back to him.

"I have," She started, only Roades' curious face keeping her on track. "and after much thought, I've-I've decided to accept."

Roades' face lit up and a huge smile took-over his face.

"But," she said before he got too excited. "I'm only doing this because this is the only option I have."

He grinned at her and for a second she worried that he would hug her or something.

"Of course, of course. Now come, there's much to show you!" She snorted at his cheery mood, at least she had one thing to brighten up her day -even if it was a grown man acting like a child at Christmas.

Before they went to the 'sanctuary' as he liked to call it, which reminded her immensely of the assassins' home, he wanted to make a stop first.

"Bring a weapon, just incase." He said before jumping out of the carraige as she followed closely behind.

She smirked to herself, thinking of all the weapons that she kept on her.

She breathed in the fresh air as they walked through the grassy banks and hopped over small streams, kicking pebbles and admiring the ducks that waded into the lake that they stepped around. Roades plopped down onto the ground and stared out onto the lake as Ivy stood there feeling rather out of place.

"Roades?" He looked at her and smiled, motioning to the empty space beside him.

"Sit," she shrugged and did as he asked, lowering to the ground with a huff of effort. She stretched her legs out and crossed them over each other, arms keeping her upright. They stayed that way for what felt like a long time, just breathing the air in and watching the scenery with contentment. She let herself take in the view, really seeing it for the first time. Her heart ached at the similarity of it and her childhood home, she was always surprised by how vividly she remembered her home.
