"So, we're staying here for a week?" Ivy was asking Alex as he lounged on her sofa, flicking through a book as she lay out her clothes.

"A week, a month. However long it takes for Irian to set up a deal with the King." He replied without looking from his book.

"I thought that the deal was that we kill five people in a week and the King gives us what we need to take on Roman." She blocked out the memory that tickled her thoughts as she spoke his name.

"It is, but the kind will not promise anything until the five are dead." He spoke simply, as if it wasn't anything to worry about.

Alex had informed her that the victim tonight was a judge who would be walking down a specific Street at a specific time. India, being the baiter, would be walking towards the man and would stop to talk. Or do whatever they wanted. Ivy and Alex would come in from the sides and, well, you know.

Iel and Irian had agreed that they weren't needed for this assignment, they were to stay and 'chat' with the council. Ivy was nervous that they would have to take this assignment on by themselves as Irian usually gave them their positions. Someone was going to have to take charge, she wondered who it would be.

She locked herself in the bathing room and dressed into her assassin clothes in record time. She reveled in the feel of clothes that she could actually move in. She left her hair down and glanced at the mirror, and froze. Her eyes were the oddest she'd ever seen. They were eerie in a way, dulled so much that you could hardly see them, glassy and pale.

"Alex, have you seen this?" She blinked at her reflection, looking to Alex in shock.

"At what?" He asked boredly, staring at his book intently.

"My eyes." At this, he looked up. His face changed from bored to shocked then to confused.

"Your eyes are usually really bright." He murmured, stating the obvious. "They look almost white now."

She nodded and looked back to the mirror.

"Maybe I have that mood thing, where your eyes change with your mood." She did feel different.

"Maybe." He shrugged, losing interest as his eyes wandered back to the book in his hands.

She fidgeted in her spot, making a decision.

"I'm going out." She finalised and before he could blink, she ran out of the door.

She walked down the long corridors, earning a few puzzled looks due to her attire, and finally reached the gardens.

Flowers flourished everywhere and the neat paths that made her feel peaceful. As the calm settled within her and all sights of nerves slipped away, she pulled out the pocket mirror that she had snuck into her pocket and looked into it. She stared at her eyes in astonishment.

Bright green with gold flecks.

She blinked, what was this? Her eyes had changed back to normal like she had thought they might.

She had to tell Alex.

With a quick goodbye to the beautiful gardens, she fast walked to her rooms. On the way someone grabbed her wrist and pulled her behind a large blue curtain. She yelped and was met face-to-face with a girl her own age. Then it clicked.

"Princess Aeris?" The girl nodded with an apologetic smile.

"Yes, I am sorry for startling you miss but I need to inform you of something important." In other circumstances, her formality would've made Ivy burst out laughing.

"Go on." She pushed cautiously.

"It's the King, my. . . father." She spat the word out in disgust making Ivy raise her eyebrows. "He is not to be trusted. He will sell you out to Roman, I know it." Ivy frowned at the girls words.

"But he's helping Irian with the brewing war." She found herself defending a man she didn't know and didn't like.

"Do not underestimate him." She said suddenly.

"Who, the King?" Ivy asked, baffled.

"No, Roman."

With that the girl turned and ran off, her back retreating as the seconds ticked by. Ivy stood dumbfounded behind the curtain, listening to the hustle and bustle of the castles inhabitants. After a few minutes of just simply thinking, she slowly turned and ducked out from under the curtain.

With a crease between her brows, she paced down the hallways and towards her chamber. Alex should still be there. After rounding the millionth corner, she finally made it to her rooms. She swung open the door and marched in to find Alex fast asleep.

"Really?" She shook her head with a small smile and padded over to him, casting aside the book that his head had lay face-down in.
