Chapter Ten - Goodnight

Chapter Ten - Goodnight.

I walked into the kitchen and heard Casey's phone ring.

"Babe, Can you get that?"

"Sure" I reply. I look at the apple device and it said 'Unknown Number." I assumed it was her mum or someone back in the UK. I answered the phone.

"Hello? Casey's Phone, Gavin Speaking!"

"Hello Sir, this is Faye at Austin hospital, Is Miss Roberts around?"

I ha to think fast. I didn't want Casey to hear what ever 'Faye' had to say.

"S-she's bust at the moment, S-Shall I take a message?"

She sighed and said,

"Please, may you inform her that it's concerning her friend Charlotte Dawson and that she would like Casey to be here, as soon as possible."

I nod even though she can't see me, "sure thing! Thank you"

And then I heard the beeping that signalised that she hung up. I made our drinks and I heard Dan shout out to me,

"B! She's attacking me."

Then I heard a thump and ran into the living room, drinks in hand. When I walked in, I saw Casey on the floor laughing. I handed Casey her drink and she stood up. She must have seen that my eyes were starting to go watery. I heard Dan say

"I guess that wasn't Geoff then!"

I chuckle and Casey just looks at me, she must have realised that it was about Charlotte.

"H-Has S-She-?"

I shook my head,

"I don't know" I started, my voice croaky. "They won't tell me but they want you to go over there."

She nodded and stood up. She put her shoes on and grabbed her bag. I wheeled Dan out the apartment and down to the car. I stopped Casey from driving and I said to her

"I pass my driving test last week!"

She didn't mind, she just moved round to the passenger side door and sat down. I drove us to the hospital. On the way there, Casey called Geoff. She had started to cry now.

To all of us in the office, Geoff is that guy that you love like a father. He said that he was on his way. When we arrived at the hospital. Casey and Dan went to find Charlotte and I went and got all a drink. I walked down towards Charlottes room. when I opened the door I say Charlotte laying down, heart rate low, eyes dropping with every blink.

When I walked in Charlotte looked to me and said

"Gavin, I want you to look after my little Casey and if anything happens to her. I swear to god, I will haunt your ass."

"I-I promise!" I said as I went to stand next to Casey. She turned her head towards Dan, who was holding her hand, close to his forehead.

"Dan, don't dwell on the past. I have and always will love you but don't go and do something stupid. And try not to get blown up!"

We all crack a smile at that. Dan nods and kisses her hand. She strokes his cheek and when Dan let go of her hand. She grabbed something off of her bedside table a forced it into Casey's hand.

"Lottie pl-"

"Shut the hell up Casey! I want you to promise me that you won't do something stupid, Can you do that?"

"I-I promise!" She said, her voice barely a whisper.

"Casey, what's the one rule we've had since we were 13?"

"Never say goodbye" she mumbled.

Charlotte put her hands on Casey's and repeated, her voice getting weaker.

"Never say goodbye because if you don't say goodbye,"

"Your not really gone, just not here right now."

I smile at that as I realise that it's from Red vs Blue Season 10.

Charlotte continued, her voice very weak now.

"Casey Marie Roberts, I've know you for 20 years, and over them years, we've been through some shit and through most of it... You've been wearing that fucking Onesie!"

They both chuckled and Charlotte turned to Dan, one final time.

"Don't dwell on the past." She turned to me, "Keep her safe," and she turned to Casey, her eyes trying to stay open. She turn her arm so her wrist was facing upwards and said to Casey, with one final breath,

"Casey, Manamana."

And with that, we hear the one tone we didn't want to hear, the flat line. Dan just put his head on the bed and started to cry. I gave Casey a kiss on the head and walked over to Dan. He's like my little brother and if I lost him, I would feel like Casey does. I calmed him down and bit and at that moment, Geoff, Griffon and Millie walked in. Millie let go of her mothers hand and ran over to Casey and gave her a massive hug. Casey lifted her up and sat Millie on her lap. She dried her eyes and said to Millie,

"Can you promise me something Millie?"

"Sure Aunty Casey, only if you can promise me something?"

"Sure thing Millie,"

Millie took in a breath and said

"Promise me that you won't join Charlotte, that you'll stay here with us! Can you?"

She pulled Millie into another hug and said that she promised

"Now Millie, can you look after Uncle Gavin for me?"

She nodded, a smile on her face. Millie stood up and walked over to charlottes life-less body. She whisper something into her ear and then grabbed Casey's hand. She dragged Casey away from Charlotte. A nurse walked in at that moment and asked us all to leave. We agreed but it took a while for us I convince Dan. He left and we went to the dining hall. I notice that even Geoff was crying now.

Now this is a man who you never see cry. He's a loving father, amazing boss and a drunken catastrophe but one thing he never does is cry. We sat around a table but Casey went and sat on her own, away from us. Dan was still crying and wouldn't talk to is. I'm getting a bit worried for him. I remembered that Charlotte gave Casey a box, I figured that she was looking in it so I gave her some space.

A/N I'm not kidding when I say I was crying when I wrote this. IM SO SORRY!!! I really wanted to do a character death and it had to be Charlotte. The Manamana thing was a joke between me and my friend. In one Ict lesson we just emailed each other Manamana instead of doing work and we got in big shit for it.

I'm so sorry my little Loric!
