I knocked on Lissa's door. It was night time now and everyone was awake starting there days. My best friend opened the door with a smile and said "Hey Rose what are you doing here?" Lissa was wearing a fluffy light blue sweater and jeans. Her blonde hair always made her look bright and cheerful but I could tell she was also happy for another reason. Too bad I'll have to ruin that. "Lissa there's something I need to talk to you about."

"I have something to tell you Rose also, but you go first."

"No-No you, I can feel how excited you are." Lissa smiled, her cheeks turning rosy and eyes alight

"Christian asked me to marry him!" She said with a big smile on her face. Her world was becoming whole but I was the wrecking ball that would take away this glimpse at happiness.

"W-what" I sputtered. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Marry him? She was going to marry Christian Ozera. I looked down at her hand that had an engagement ring on her fourth finger and sucked in a sharp breath. Lissa's smile turned into a frown

"What is it Rose?" Her tone had become hard and unfeeling. I could feel down our bond the anger bubbling inside of her.

"You can't marry him Lissa."
"And why not?" Lissa said as she crossed her arms over her chest.

"Lissa I -"

"I thought you had finally accepted him and everything that I want for my life. My parents and brother barley got to live so if I got the gift to keep living on then I will do it my way Rose. Isn't that what were about, playing by our rules to protect each other and find some sort of future" Tears were forming in my best friends eyes.

Lissa looked at me with those green eyes, waiting for a response but when I didn't say anything she sprinted towards the door. Before she could open the knob I grabbed her wrist and said breathlessly "You can't marry him because you have to marry Adrian." I hated the words as they left my mouth. Lissa marrying Adrian felt like my heart was being crushed again but this time the man wasn't pushing me away, his dead great aunt was.

I watched Lissa as she registered my words and now it was my turn for tears to form but unlike Lissa I wouldn't let them roll down my cheeks. "What the hell are you talking about?" Lissa said as she moved away from the door. She was tear stained with a furrowed brow of confusion. I knew I must have sounded crazy but I had to tell her now or I would get scared and she'd find out from some else.

"It's Tatiana. It's the only way Liss. Adrian and I found a way for you to be queen but you have to marry someone related to Tatiana." Lissa's scowl then turned to a frown as she became limp and fell into my arms. She was unconscious, I wish I was too. My mind was a jumble of nonsense as I sat on the floor of Lissa room her head in my lap as I stoked her hair and waited for her to come back to our newest threat.
