“You’ll be ok. Stop crying, I don’t like seeing you cry.” Keaton kept on whispering. We were probably getting loads and loads of stares and glares. I mean what kind of girl keeps on crying on her best friend’s chest in the middle of the beach, on a sunny day? Me apparently. After a little while I stop crying slowly. My sobs eventually stop and I sat back up. So did Keaton.

“Look at me.” He said. I turned my head towards him. He gave me a cute little smile and brushed away the tears left on my cheeks. I was probably looking like shit right now. My eyes must be bloodshot; my face must be extremely red and I needed to blow my nose. I found tissues in my bag and did my thing, trying to cover up the mess that I was. Inside and out.

“Wanna go in the water for a bit? Just you and me.” I nodded and stood up. Keaton followed my lead and pulled me into a hug real quick. He took my hand in his and we started walking towards the ocean. We got to the point where him and I had water a little higher our waist

“Piggy back?” I asked. We do that all the time. I’ll mostly jump on his back and he’ll walk around and we’ll just chill and talk. I do that with Wes too. The only difference is that he holds me in his arms and I wrapped my legs around his waist. We would kiss from time to time and just enjoy each other’s presence.

“Are you going to forgive him?” Keaton asked once I was comfortable on his back.

“I don’t know. I want to but at the same time I don’t want to.” I answered after resting my head on his shoulder.

“That’s confusing. You are such a girl.” Keaton laughed and stopped walking once we reached the point where he had water up to his chest.

“Thanks for noticing but you are not helping, at all.” I playfully whined.

“Did you let him time to explain?” Keaton asked again.

“I did. He said that it was a on the moment thing and that he didn’t know what he was doing and a bunch of crap.” I sighed.

“Well, give yourself some time. See how things are going. If you miss him and whatnot.” I love this kid. He is so much more mature than any other 16 years old.

“Yea, I’ll do that—” I was interrupted by someone tackling us into the water. Keaton lost his balance and fell, obviously bringing me down with him. It was so unexpected that I didn’t think of breathing before getting under water. I started coughing and breathing water through my nose. I spend a couple of seconds under water and finally resurfaced. I saw a laughing Drew and a smiling Wes. I kept on coughing and my throat was hurting like crazy. There smiled faded until they understood what was going on.

“Oh my god. Are you ok?!” Wes frantically asked, swimming towards me. I couldn’t breathe right and started panicking.

“Try breathing nice and slow yeah?” He said and pulled on the back of my thighs so I’d wrapped my legs around him. He pulled me up so I my head was much higher than the water, making sure that I wouldn’t go back under water and drown. He rubbed my back gently until I eventually calmed down and the water in my lungs got out.

“Woah I’m sorry sis! Didn’t mean to freak you out like that.” Drew said from next to me. Keaton was also watching and asked if I was alright. I nodded and unwrapped myself from Wes.

“Thank you.” I said just above and whisper and cleared my throat again.

“No problem.” He answered. Is this how it’s going to be between us? Awkward small chat.

“You want to go back on the beach for a bit?” Drew asked worried once again. He put one arm around my shoulders and the four of us started walking towards our towels. Once we reached the part of the beach where we had water just above our ankles, two girls were about 3 feet in front of us. Honestly, they looked gorgeous. Typical California girls. Blonde hair, blue eyes, a body you would kill for. I was far behind with my average body, my Washington state tan and brown hair. They didn’t need to ask for attention, they already had it. Especially my brother’s. He said “Hi.” in what I call his hey-you-are-hot-let’s-hang-out tone. They waved back and giggled.  We walked past them and I went to our spot. I sat down and Wes followed. He sat right next to me, on Keaton’s towel.

“Dude, sit on your own towel.” Keaton whined childishly.

“Just take mine.” Wes answered while putting his hands behind him so he could lay back. Keaton rolled his eyes and gave me a sympathy look. Drew sat down on the other side of me and lay on his stomach.

“Isn’t it a beautiful day? My wonderful sister, my two best friends, a shining sun.. We should be thankful for that, guys.” Drew said, bringing this positive thinking slash Gandhi talked back. I love how he has such a positive look on life and how the small things in life make him happy. Although today I didn’t share his opinion. I personally wouldn’t qualify this day as beautiful. Wes and Keaton were probably thinking the same thing because the only hummed and nodded.

“Well I’m gonna go buy some ice cream. Anyone wants some?” Keaton asked. We all declined the offer and he left on his own. He’ll probably take his time and find some girls to talk with. The kid is good at that thing.

“Hi—Hey.” Someone said in front of us. I looked up and saw the two beautiful girls from earlier smiling down at us. Well probably at the guys and not me. I grabbed my RayBands from my bag. Wes actually gave me these sunglasses on my birthday last year. I decided to put my shorts back on, suddenly feeling a little cautious about my thighs next to these girls. Drew eventually sat back in a natural position and started chatting with these girls. He asked where they were from and how they were doing.

“So what are your names girls?” Drew asked again while I lay back on my towel.

“I’m Sarah and this is Melody.” The tallest one said. I felt like she was way more confident than the other one.

“Well I’m Drew and this is Wes and the anti-social girl lying right there is my sister Lily.” He said, and I assumed he pointed to each of us while introducing us and I frowned at my introduction. I thought of a nice comeback but prefer not to say anything.

“Yeah, we know. We really like your band.” She giggled. What’s up with the giggling? I never giggle.

“Oh wow thank you! I’m glad we have such beautiful fans.” How cheesy.

“But I’m obviously your favorite right?” Drew asked again in a failed attempt to flirt. I love my brother, but he should really work on these flirting skills. Well, they actually laughed so that’s a good sign for Drew.

“You are.” I looked up and Melody said that I believed. She smiled and ran her hand in her hair at the same time. I wish I could flirt like that. Flirting doesn’t run in the family.

“I don’t want to hurt your feelings Drew, but mine is actually Wes. Your voice is so powerful and gorgeous.” Wait what? Does she really needs to like my guy? If he still is. I stand no chance against her.

“Oh thank you! I appreciate it. ” I heard Wes’s voice answer. He was probably smiling from ear to ear.

“Well you guys want to come play Frisbee with us or something?” Melody asked again.

“I’d love to!” Drew answered right away; not even trying to hide is interest.

“No thank you. I’ll just stay with my girlfriend right here. I haven’t seen her in a while.” Wes said. He never says no to play sport on the beach with other girls that aren’t me. What is wrong with him? I took my sunglasses off to get a real look at Wesley and I saw that he was fidgeting with his fingers. He was almost coming off a little shy. That’s not the Wesley I know. I turned on the other side where Drew was already standing, shooting Wes a glare. Drew really needed a wingman. Wes is always is wingman. Not today I guess.
