On a scale of 1-10 how mad is he?

I tried calling back on Keaton’s phone probably like an hundred times until he finally picked up. I went up to my room so my mom wouldn’t think I’m weird for pacing around the room and dialing Keaton’s number over and over, but I didn’t want to tell her that Drew and Wes were not ok right now.

“Lily?” He calmly answered form the other side. How could he be so calm seriously?

“KEATON! WHAT IS GOING ON?” I yelled frantically, hoping the Wes wasn’t laid out in a puddle of blood…just kidding.

“Drew punched Wes in the face basically.” My heart started racing. I was terribly mad at Wes but I don’t want anything bad happening to him. And knowing Drew, he probably didn’t go easy on him.

“Is-Is he alright?” The tears welled up in my eyes. I never wanted this to happen.

“He’ll have a good black eye and probably a bruise but he’s not dying Lily. You can calm down.” I stayed silent and I couldn’t stop thinking about how I ruined their friendship.

“Where is he? How’s Drew?”

“He’s right next to me and even though he’s terribly mad at himself he keeps smiling to the fact that you obviously care about him.” I heard him chuckled. Apparently it wasn’t that big of a deal over there. I pushed his comment aside and went on.

“Keaton, Drew and their friendship is what I care about right now.” I said, while trying to sound as calm as I could.

“Drew went out after I pulled them away from each other… I’m glad I’ve been working out so I was able to.” I rolled my eyes, even if he couldn’t see.

“You don’t work out. On a scale of one to ten how pissed is he?”

“12. He’s pissed at you, for not telling him and he’s angry at Wes for..you know.” He said and tried to shush me when he got how shake up I was by the events.

“Tell him to call me when he gets back.”

“Lily, you should just come back. It’ll be better for everyone. I can prevent a murder for a while but you’ll have to explain yourself to him.” I sighed. I know he was right, once again.

“Yeah, I’ll take the plane tomorrow.”

“Good. Wes wants to talk to you. Do you want to?” He asked calmly.

“Just tell him that he’s an idiot, and that he kind of deserved that punch.”

“Lily… you sure you don’t want too?” He pleaded again.

“Yes, Keaton.” I sighed once again.

“Ok, we love you.”

“I love you too. And Keaton?” I asked, while my voice was cracking.

“Yeah?”

“Tell Drew I’m sorry.”

“Tell him yourself tomorrow.” We hung up and I fell down on my bed. I went downstairs and told my mom I had to go back for some college preparation or whatever. She booked me a flight and I started packing. The day went by slowly and I get on thinking about the boys, my boys. I just wanted to make things better between them. I never really see them mad at each other, so this was a whole new thing.

I took a deep breath just before my fist collided against the house door. I don’t even know why I’m knocking… I live there. So before anyone could answer I walked in and pulled my packed suitcase inside. No one was in sight so I went in my room to lay everything out. I then went in Keaton’s room where he probably was, and damn I was right. He was working on his computer, the lights off and Zuni by his side…typical.

“So you won’t even come say hi to your best friend?” I joked and he turned around quickly. He stood up, and opened his arms so I could walk right into them.

“Missed you. It’s been crazy since yesterday. I haven’t seen Drew, Wes is out on his own. I really didn’t know what to do.” He said and pulled me closer. I really missed him though. We talked for a while and he explained every detail about last night. Apparently Wes didn’t pay attention at how loud he was speaking and Drew was right outside the door, in the hallway. He bursted in and punched Wes on the side of his face. He then stormed out after shouting some horrible stuff that Keaton didn’t want to repeat. So we basically waited for them and we talked in the living room about my extended stay in Sequim. I also texted Drew to tell him I was back and that he should come home. I wasn’t worried about him; he was probably A. Surfing B. With Kyle or Kenny or C. Meditating somewhere. Around 5pm, we heard the doorknob turn and Wes came in. I haven’t seen him in so long and my heart was hardly able to take it. He had his huge sunglasses on, probably hiding something. He was also wearing his typical tank top, shorts and snapback. His muscles were showing and they seemed bigger than the last time I saw him…or maybe not.

“How are you?” Keaton asked from the couch… I don’t think he saw us just yet. He was looking through his phone while he answered Keat with a simple “Alright”.

“Hey Wes.” I said simply so he could tear off his gaze from his cell. His head shot straight up and Keaton laughed next to me.

“I didn’t know you were back! Keaton, you could’ve told me.” He groaned at his brother.

“I thought you needed some alone time.” Wish is true, so he didn’t argue. He kept his glasses on and walked towards me silently.

“Keaton can you uh-” I shot Keaton a look, telling him to stay where he was, but of course he just smiled and stood up.

“Yeah…Nobody likes me.” He complained jokingly and pouted his bottom lip and left to go back to his room.

“Hey, I’m glad you are here.” He said, I didn’t know what to do, so I just said hi casually.

“How are you feeling?” I asked.

“Not so good really.” At least he was honest

“Why did you say it out loud, you know they would be listening.” I asked after a little awkward silence, I’ve been asking myself this question since last night.

“I did it on purpose. I wanted him to know. So now all the truth is out in the open. I just got to work on getting my friendship and my girl back.” I felt like he was looking right into my eyes while saying that, but I couldn’t really tell with his sunglasses on.

“Take ‘em off” I said and gesture to his sunglasses. He slowly took them off as I saw him winced in pain. I gasped at what I saw. I knew he would have a black eye but it didn’t really sink in that my brother did that to him…his best friend.

“Fuck Wes.” I sighed and ran my fingers on his cheek and over his bruise gently. I felt the tears into my eyes once again; I mean no one likes to see a love one hurt no? He enveloped my hand in his and pressed it to his cheek, and then he closed his eyes.

“I missed you so much.” He whispered and brought my hand to his lips.

“Don’t.” I whispered back. I didn’t have the strength to pull me hand back, or maybe I didn’t want too, it’s unclear. I was just hoping he would stop. Fortunately he let my hand fall back to my side.

“Sorry.” This was harder than I thought it would. At this point we heard the front door open again and I knew what was coming.

“Wes get away from her.” I heard Drew’s harsh voice said behind Wes. This is going to be a lot of fun…note the sarcasm.
