Chapter 24

"What the fuck is this?!" Aliayia screams at her mum and throws the picture at her. She just catches it and her eyes widen. I really shouldn't be here for this.

"I'm going to step outside" I said quietly.

"No, don't go Ari. I want you here with me" Aliayia said but I still take a step back.

"Was this what you were hiding upstairs" Debbie said still a little shocked.

"What does that matter. The point is that I found it. It's the only picture I haven't seen of myself when I was little, so why hide it?" Aliayia asks. I can tell she is angry but she is trying to remain calm.

"Look my taxi will be here soon, we will talk another time about this. It's nothing anyway" Debbie said putting the photo away but Aliayia grabbed it back off her.

"Stop lying to me! Have I got a twin!?" Aliayia shouts. Tears started to roll down her cheek, god I just want to give her a hug. Debbie didn't answer which is really starting to piss me off.

"Oh for fuck sake! Is that her twin, yes or no. It's not that hard! Just tell your daughter the truth!" I scream throwing my hands up in the air.

"YES!" Debbie screamed and Aliayia's mouth drops open. Holy shit! She's a twin!

"How could you keep this from me?" Aliayia asked with a shallow tone. I'm seriously gonna punch this womens face. Debbie didn't answer which annoyed me even more.

"You fucking bitch! Is this why you were never here for Aliayia, because you felt guilty? Or maybe you got a kick out of seeing your daughter miserable" I said in a stern voice.

"No, that's not why Ari, you don't know the story" Debbie said putting her hand up in defence.

"Then explain, you still have 10 minutes before your taxi is due" Aliayia said not taking her eyes off Debbie.

"When both of you were born, I knew I couldn't handle two of you. So I gave one up. It was the hardest decision I ever had to make, please believe me that I love both of you" Debbie said and she started to tear up. Oh wow she actually has a heart.

"Do you even keep in contact with my sister, or even the parents?" Aliayia asked again in a shallow tone.

"I did, not anymore" Debbie said looking down at the floor. I turn to look at Aliayia who I think is about to explode.

"And why not! Does my twin even know I exist?" Aliayia yells a little.

"Believe me your closer than you think"

"What's that supposed to mean? Why didn't you tell me about her sooner? Why don't you talk to the parents anym....." Debbie cut Aliayia off.

"BECAUSE THEIR DEAD!" Debbie screamed. Once again Aliayia's face pales. I turn and look to Debbie who is staring right at me.
"They died....in a car accident.... a year and a half ago" She whispered and now I can feel the blood drain from my entire body.
"I'm sorry" Debbie whispers once again. I look to Aliayia who has her mouth open slightly and her eyes widened and staring at me. I then look back to Debbie.

"Are you saying..... Th...that me and Aliayia are.... Twins?" my voice was quiet and Debbie nodded slowly.
Right this must be a dream!
"So it's not Katie that's adopted. It's me?" I asked feeling a little confused. Scratch that, a lot confused.

"No, Katie is adopted. Your mum couldn't have kids so I gave her you then when you were 6 she wanted another baby so she adopted Katie. Plus you too are un-identical twins which made it easier" Debbie explained. I couldn't get my head around it. A couple of minutes past and it was silent. Then we heard a car beep outside.

"On you go mummy, your car is waiting" Aliayia said in a sarcastic tone. Debbie picked up her suitcase and headed out. Before walking out the front door she stopped.

"I do love you both" she said and Aliayia lost it.

"GET THE FUCK OUT NOW!" Aliayia screamed and she pushed her out the door and slammed it in her face.

Aliayia then turned to me, we're twins?

"I'm kinda having mixed emotions about all this" Aliayia said in a soft tone.

"Same.....so we're twins?"

"I've always thought of you as a sister, but a twin that's too wired"

"Exactly what I was thinking" then a few seconds past and we both burst out laughing.

"I'm so angry with my mum, but I'm so happy that I have actually got a twin and who better than my best friend" Aliayia explained and she came over and gave me a hug. My smile soon faded when Katie popped into my head.
"What's wrong?" Aliayia asked pulling away.

"Katie" I said and I started to cry again.

"Hey, no matter what she is still your little sister, and she needs you to be strong. OK?"

"I need to tell her though"

"You will, when we get her back" I gave Aliayia another hug. We sit down on the couch and put on a movie but we barely watched it. We were talking like we normally do but this time it felt different.

It felt better.
