"You little shit!" Dirk, my boyfriend yelled. He pushed me back into a corner and punched me in the face. I was crying, and as he continued to beat me up and call me all the names in the book, I began screaming. I dropped to the floor and covered my face, but he continued to kick me, so I continued crying and screaming for help. Even after the beating stopped and I heard him walk away, muttering to himself, I continued crying and screaming until all I could do was whimper.
Then I felt a cold metal connect with my head. "One more movement, one more scream, and you're dead." Oh my lord. Dirk was holding a gun to my head.
I heard someone burst through the door and yell "Don't you dare do a fucking thing to Bianca!" It must've been Luke, my best friend who also happens to be my neighbor.
The cold metal was quickly removed from my head and I heard two gunshots. I shot up as Dirk ran out of the room, and I ran over to Luke. "Luke!" I cried. "Oh my god, Luke!"
There were two bullet wounds in his chest. He was on the ground and holding his chest, breathing heavily. "Bianca..." he choked out.
"Shhhh, Luke," I said, grabbing the nearest phone. I dialed 911 and soon an ambulance showed up, paramedics pushing me away and surrounding Luke, putting a backboard under him and lifting him onto the stretcher, rushing him away. I rushed to my car and followed the ambulance, which had both its sirens and its lights on.
I reached the hospital approximately five minutes after the ambulance, and ran into the emergency room. "Where's Luke Hemmings?" I asked the receptionist.
"Trauma 2. Who are you?"
"Oh, no one important, just HIS FUCKING BEST FRIEND!"
"Ma'am, I'm going to have to ask you to wait-"
I hurried away from her and hunted down Trauma 2, where I saw Luke hooked up to all sorts of machines and wires and surrounded by a team of doctors and nurses. I gasped. This was all because of me. In under a minute, his bed was hurriedly pushed out of the room and down the hallway. "Wait!" I cried. "Where are you going?"
A nurse walked up to me. "Ma'am, he needs emergency surgery. I can take you up to the operating room waiting room so you can know when he's out and how he's doing."
I nodded and followed the nurse:
10 long hours later, I saw a doctor walk into the room. "Family of Luke Hemmings?"
I jumped up and practically ran to the doctor. "I'm his best friend, the closest thing he has to a family right now."
The doctor nodded. "The surgery was a success. His heart did stop a few times, and he's not out of the woods yet, but as of right now, he's stable."
"Can I see him?"
The doctor nodded and brought me up to his room. He was still asleep. I went and sat next to his bed, praying for him to wake up. At last, he did wake up.
"Luke?" I whispered. "Luke, it's me. I'm so, so sorry and-"
"Bianca, shh," he murmured groggily. Then he pulled me weakly towards him and kissed me.
