I kept hearing voices. But my head felt heavy and my eyelids would not follow my command to wake up. I force myself to get up and found that I was lying on something really soft. Getting up, I rubbed my eyes that were blinded momentarily by the blinding sun. My vision blurred for a moment then when it became steady I looked around and found myself on a hill, lying on hilly grasses.

I got up and amazingly felt no pain. I tried to recall what happened but everything I tried recalling was just a blur image. My head throbbed in pain and my body protest to just lie down on the soft haven and go to sleep. But I forced myself up and walked down the hill.  I saw many empty old houses. They were like pre-war houses. And strangely the whole place was abandoned.

I was walking down an alley when I heard something. It was like a little girl’s laugh. Then I saw someone’s shadow crossing into a backlane between two houses. “Wait! I want to ask you something!” I shouted at her. I ran after her but she mysteriously disappeared. Suddenly, I felt a tap on my back. I turn around sharply but found no one there. I started sweating by fear. This place scared me and I wanted to go back. But go back where?

I kept on walking till I saw a fairly modern house. It was weird to see a modern house sitting between old pre-war like houses. Nevertheless, I walked closer to the house. It looked so familiar. Walking into the house I saw family photos. They looked so familiar. Suddenly my head hurt so badly and images flashed before. Images of flames of the people in the picture screaming and being burned and lastly image of me standing at the door.

Unable to keep up with the images and the pain, I collapsed and lay there. I started feeling dizzy and felt like the world was spinning. I closed my eyes and opened them again.  I found I was in another place when I opened my eyes. A busier place. I asked myself, What am I doing here? And what were the images about? I walked down the busy street and tried to talk to someone. But strangely, they all ignored me like I was invisible.

“They can’t see you. Don’t you find them familiar?” a girl’s voice said behind me. I turned around sharply and saw her standing there. “If they can’t see me, then how can you?” I retorted. “You’re ignorant. Try to remember who this people are. You are stuck between the past and the present. Actually YOUR past and present.” She replied quietly. “How is that possible?” I asked her. I looked around me. Yes, there look rather familiar. “Try to remember what happened to you.” she said to me.

I furrowed my brows and think but nothing came to me. “Do you remember? I guess not. Does Josh, Kate, Sam or Claire ring a bell?” she asked me. I shake my head. “ What about Chase Carter?” Suddenly everything came rushing back. “You remember don’t you?” she questioned me. I just nodded. I didn’t know how she know them but I didn’t ask her.

“Elene, do you remember me? Do you know who I am?” she asked. “Truthfully, I can’t. You look so familiar but I don’t remember.” I told her gently. She sighed sadly. “I’m Georgia. Remember me? We used to play together. Used to be best friends?” I gasped. Georgia? How could it be? “I thought you disappeared.” I replied. “Yes. I did. The same guy who marred your face kidnapped me and carved me. Then when he was done with me, he left me bleeding. I bled to death.” She told me angrily. I felt sorry for her and angry towards the guy.

Then, Georgia broke my train of thoughts. “Elene, do you want to go back? To be alive again? I know you have unanswered questions of which I can’t answer for you. You have to find them on your own.” She told me. Slowly, a tear rolled down my eye. I was torn between staying with my used-to-be best friend and going back. “I do. But I’ll miss you forever.” I sighed. “Elene, do what’s best. Here, go through this door and you’ll be back in reality.” She said to me. I found that we were standing in front of the door.
