We headed out of the movie theater towards Rick's car. We were discussing our favorite scenes of the comedy we went to watch.
"You know, you are really fun to hang out with," Rick said sweetly as we pulled out of the parking lot.
"Aw thanks, you're pretty fun too." I replied, letting out a small laugh.
Not sure of what else to do we drove to the park nearby my house. Rick came around to my side of his truck and opened my door, taking my hand and helping me out. After helping me out, he didn't let go of my hand. He squeezed it reassuringly and we walked into the park and sat on a small bench as the sun set.
"I love sunsets," I said stretching and letting out a satisfying sigh.
"They are really lovely, but I see something even lovelier right now."
My cheeks flushed slightly, "Ha, thank you..." I said trailing off nervously.
"You know, although I haven't known you long I feel like we have a serious connection. I don't want to come off as too strong, but I think we should definitely hang out more... Possibly as boyfriend and girlfriend." He said taking my hand in his, staring into my eyes with...desperation?
I hesitated, was I really ready for a relationship. My last one was very rocky, and I ended up pretty hurt because of it. Not only that, but I hadn't even known Rick for a month, I felt too weird dating him so soon.
"I appreciate the offer, Rick, you seem really nice you do..." I trailed off, his eyes flickered with a little bit of irritation.
"But?"
"I think it's too soon, don't get me wrong I would really love to get to know you better then decide if it should be official otherwise- "
Rick cut me off, giving my hand a squeeze, "Look, if it doesn't work out for us as boyfriend and girlfriend we can just go back to being friends."
"No, but the thing is-"
"Alright! I'm so happy you agreed."
"Umm... yeah, sure."
The air suddenly changed, it felt very awkward as Rick and I stared at each other. Rick looked rather accomplished, and I, on the other hand, felt somewhat confused. Did he just dismiss my thoughts and declare us girlfriend and boyfriend...? He must really like me, I guess.
Still feeling a little bit lost, I had Rick drive me home.
"It was really nice hanging out with you, Rick." I smiled at him getting out of his truck, "Thank you for being the chauffer."
"Anything for my girl." He chuckled, before driving away.
I stood there for a moment, scratching the back of my head, "That was a little odd." I murmured to myself.
Entering my house, I noticed all the lights were off. I guess Grace went home. I lumbered off to my room and collapsed on my bed, I scrolled through my phone for a little bit before calling it a night and drifting off to sleep.
Once again, as it does every morning, my annoying buzzer went off. I scrolled through my phone, looking at several messages from Rick. Slightly annoyed I threw my phone back on my bed.
That's how my mornings went for several weeks, I'd wake up to my alarm, talk to Grace, then answer the multiple messages from Rick. They could range from "Good morning's, to "How'd you sleep?". I didn't think he was a boring guy at all, but his text messages and concerns for me were very repetitive.
