Jasmin's POV:

"How does it feel?"

"Weird."

Paul shot me a flat look. "No, really? I mean, is it uncomfortable in any way?" I shook my head. "Get up and try to walk around." I stared at him with wide eyes, then looked over at Will who held his hand out to me.

"I'm going to fall," I promised. "I am really going to fall." I took a deep breath, and pushed myself off the hospital bed. Even though it was only my foot they had to remove two days ago, it still felt weird knowing it wasn't there anymore. But the prosthetic foot looked real. They had even matched my skin color. Also, the people who made it informed me I can paint the nails of it just like a normal foot.

But it was plastic and rubber mixed, and it felt strange against my ankle. I guess I shouldn't complain about the surgery, though, they could've removed my ankle and made this 10x harder. I took Will's hand in mine, and took a normal step forwards. Will walked with me.

"I did it!" I cheered, my face lighting up.

"Okay, so she can walk," Hil said, smirking at me, "but can she skate?" I crossed my arms over my chest and popped my hip out.

"Oh, I can totally skate."

-----

"I totally can't skate."

I have fallen more than five times already, and I've had to stay close to the rails--Something I've never done before. We had decided to go to the local skating rink down the street, since my pond is, well, you know.

"Yeah," Hil agreed, "you're doing just as good as Will is." Will rolled his eyes at her.

"Thanks," he said sarcastically, then looked back at me. "It's only your first day with the thing, you're not going to be as good as you were before. And you know, pratice makes perfect."

I took a deep breath, squared my shoulders, and slowly moved away from them. I could feel their eyes on me the while time I pushed myself to the middle of the rink, getting faster and faster by every second. By the time I had reached the middle, I was going so fast all I wanted to do was jump.

And that's what I did.

Spinning around clockwise then landing perfectly on my good foot, I held my bad leg out behind me with my arms held out to the sides. "You did it!" Hilary yelled, her voice echoing through the empty arena.

"Barely," I said sadly, rejoining them on the side. "I could hardly push myself up with this stupid fake foot when I did my jump." I ran my hand through my hair. "Maybe I just shouldn't do the competition."

Their eyes widened in unison. Hilary was about to protest, but Will beat her to it, "Jaz, you have to do it. You gotta represent your home town, and you've been talking about this for months now."

I sighed. "I know, I know. But, I don't think I can do it." Hil grabbed my arm and began to skate back out.

"Just keep trying for the next few days. You still have a week," she reminded me. I rolled my eyes.

"Yeah, I know. But I just......" I sighed and shook my head. "Nevermind. Can we go home? I'm tired." They both nodded, and we exited the rink.

------

Back at home, I sat in my bed staring at the fake foot that took place of my own one. Will sat down beside me and draped his arm around my shoulders. I smiled and rested my head on his shoulder. "What time is it?" I asked.

"About nine. Hilary went back to her house already."

"You wanna go watch movies then? I seriously need a movie night." He chuckled.

"As long as you've got some good movies." He climbed off the bed, then I slid over to the side of the bed and stood up.

"I've got Pitch Perfect down there," I said with a shrug. His eyes went wide, then he rushed out of the room and down the stairs. I stood there for a second, waiting for him to come back and help me down the stairs. He didn't.

I laughed, then rolled my eyes. "Thanks Will!" I yelled, walking to the stairs. He stopped at the bottom and looked back at me. The look on his face told me he was trying to look sorry and not laugh.

"I'm sorry," he lied, a smile threatening to appear on his lips. I smiled and shook my head.

"No you're not." I took a step down the stairs, then bit my lip and looked at the distance between us. "If I fall, will you catch me?"

He laughed. "That sounds like a line from a sappy romantic movie, but yes. If you fall, I'll catch you."

I giggled, then lifted my bad leg off the stairs. I hopped down on my good foot, and Will's eyes widened. "Careful! You're gonna kill yourself!"

Rolling my eyes, I hopped down another step. "No I won't. Hilary and I used to do this all the time before I left to go to California. It was a game, the one who could go up and back down the fastest won."

He frowned. "Didn't you fall while playing?"

I hopped down another step, now standing only four steps up from Will. "Of course we did. We had bruises all the way up our arms and legs, we eventually had to stop because my mom said people were going to think she's abusive." I hopped down two more, then sighed. "It feels like forever ago I was leaving this house to go live with Cole and Lisa."

"I wonder how different things would be if your mom was friends with someone else in LA, and not with Lisa," Will thought aloud.

"If things did go that way, we might've not met." When I hopped down another step, my foot slipped and I found myself falling towards Will. His arms caught my waist, and we both came tumbling down, me landing on top of him.

"Then I wouldn't have someone to catch me when I fall," I whispered, looking him in the eyes. He smiled at me.

"I guess it's a good thing we met, then." I lowered my head and kissed him. I felt him kissing me back, his hands cupping my face. His lips were soft, just like his hands that were against my cheeks that probably had a tint of red to them.

"I'm ho- Oh. Sorry to disturb you," my mom muttered, shutting the door. We broke apart and I rolled off him. My mom walked towards the stairs, smirking at us. "I'll just leave you two alone then. And be safe!" She shot Will a knowing look. "I don't want to be a grandmother just yet."

We watched her walk up stairs and head into her room. When we heard the door shut, we looked back at each other and burst out laughing. It was nice to relax and not worry about what's going to happen a week from now. It was nice to enjoy the time I have with my boyfriend, because by next week he's going to be a on a plane heading back to Los Angeles.

But I'm not going to worry about that right now. Right now, I'm going to worry about stopping Will from quoting Pitch Perfect and singing along so I can enjoy the movie (Not that his singing is horrible and his love for PP is bad, it's quite funny, really). This is what I needed. A night to relax with the boy I'm in love with.
