Cassie's POV.
"Niall!!" I yelled from the kitchen as I cut the tomatoes in small cubes.
"Yea?" He said coming in with just a towel around his waist and his hair all damp and shaken out.
"Can you do me a HUGE favor?" I asked as sweetly as I could with puppy dog eyes.
"What is it now?" He laughed.
"Go to the market down the road and get me some fresh basil? The sauce needs it." I pleaded.
"sure. anything for you." He said grabbing his keys.
"thank you. I love you." I said kissing him on the cheek.
"I love you too." he said as he walked out the door.
I walked over to the counter and turned on the radio to some music. I started singing at the top of my lungs and dancing while I put the ingrediants in the pasta sauce.
I didn't realize how loud the music was till my phone rang a hundred times.
I ran over and paused my stereo and answered quickly.
"Hello?" I said.
It was a police officer.
"Hello is this Miss. Cassandra Davis?" He asked.
"This is she." I said gulping a little too loud as I heard the echo of it on the phone line.
"Ah yes. I have some devistating news Miss Davis." he said.
My heart dropped. Niall had left just less than 10 minutes ago. Please tell me this isn't happening....
"What is it?" I asked, completely petrified of the answer.
"Your friend Miss Hannah Smith..is dead." He said.
I never thought it would happen, but Hannah had become my best friend. After I found out what John had put her through and what she did for her family, we became so close. She was like a sister to me.
"What." I said, my voice breaking.
"She was in a serious car accident just a half an hour ago. The car was hit head on by another car going 45 miles and hour and she was dead upon arrival. I'm very sorry for your loss." He said. He didn't even seem sincere.
"Thank---thank you." I said. He hung up.
The phone dropped from my fingers and my body went weak. I fell to the kitchen floor and pulled my knees to my chest.
I can believe this is happening. Everyone around me always disappears.
~~~
Niall's POV.
I got the basil Cassie wanted and I got in my car. I decided to not go the highway since it's rush hour and it would take me too long to get home.
I was heading down on route 124 when I hit a shitload of traffic. I was gonna call Cassie to tell her that it would take me a little longer, but even stuck in traffic I don't like using my phone while driving.
It took me about a half an hour longer to get home. After I passed two cars, one completely totalled on the side of the road, I felt bad.. I saw a boy there, crying, holding an older woman in his arms.
It's sad to think that your life could just end like that. There's no last words, no final wish, it's just like that.. poof and you're gone.
I pulled in the drive and walked up to the door.
"Cass! I got your basil." I said throwing my keys onto the desk by the door. I walked into the kitchen and threw the bag on the counter. Cassie wasn't standing in the kitchen finishing up dinner.
"Cass?" I said again. I turned to see her on the floor, knees to her chest.
"Cass." I ran over to her and sat in front of her.
"Cassie what's wrong! What happened! Are you okay?" I asked quickly. She looked up, her eyes blood shot and face stained with tears. I grabbed her face in my hands as she continued to cry.
"Love, please tell me what's wrong?"
"Han..Hannah's dead..she's dead Niall, she's dead." She said, her face going into my chest and her arms around me, hugging me.
I couldn't believe it. I know Hannah did a lot of terrible things to us, but it doesn't even compare to what she went through behind closed doors. She is strong, and I just can't believe she's gone.
"how?" I dared to asked.
"A..a car..acc...accident." she said between sobs.
That must have been the reason behind the traffic right? The one I was stuck in?
I just can't believe it..she was here and gone. Lived a short life, without seeing the world, without getting married and having children and growing old with the love of her life. She came and left just as quickly. Like the breeze of a summer's day, warm and comforting, lightly catching your hair as you breathe in it's beauty.
Hannah was here and gone, because just like Kylie, it was her time too.
~
Cassie's POV.
I put on my black dress and did my hair all pretty. My make up done to perfection, just to get cried away anyway. I don't even know why I bother to look decent for my best friends funeral, but I did.
When we arrived, I walked in. Sad looks from friends who knew her, and knew me. As the people talked and talked to me, about how bad they felt for me. But I didn't like it. I didn't like that they felt bad for ME. If any, they should feel bad for Hannah. She was the one who died. Not me.
Before I knew it, everyone had left. I was the last one in the cemetary. I watched Hannah be placed into the ground and the good word of God was said to bless her and rest in peace.
But now, I just wanted to talk to her. To tell her I'm sorry this had to happen to her.
To tell her that this isn't her fault. That I love her, and I will never forget her as my best friend.
"Hannah. I love you. you're like a sister to me. A best friend. Better than anything I could have asked for. God let us find each other for a reason. Someone to look after each other, so one didn't get in too much trouble. You have been there for me, and I know we didn't start out great, but that's a whole different story all on it's own. I just wish you didn't go so soon...I wish that god had better timing for all of this, but of course he doesn't. All I do wish right now, is that you are safe where you are. That no harm can come to you. That you are at peace with everything down here, no unfinished business. I just wish that you're happy, that dying didn't make you sad, or angry. I just wish that you look over Niall and my family. Without them, I am nothing, now that I no longer have you here." I sniffled.
"I love you Hannah. Rest in paradise."
