I never thought sitting on a couch could be so awkward. But, here I was sitting in between two lovers. Ash and Alexis were next to me and I am feeling so uncomfortable. Their blindness is amusing to me. However, it also frustrates me too.
Could you imagine sitting in between two lovers who do not know a clue about their feelings. Yes, I know exactly how that feels and I am experiencing that right now. God, if you're up there. Please, let there be a miracle.
The door slams open with a bang. Ash jumps to his feet and puts his hand out to us and puts a finger to his lips. Alexis' hand reaches for mine as everything becomes silent.
"Momma is home!" A feminine voice calls out. My eyes widen, Mom? How can she just come home unexpectedly? This is her house, but no phone call or text?
"It is fine, it is just my Mom." I say in a hushed tone. Ash's stiff statue flops on the couch.
"I am guessing that this is our cue to leave. See you later, alligator." Alexis waves.
"Oh my god! Charlotte Evans! Do not tell me that you are having threesomes in my house! Did you at least use a condom!" Mom screams.
I could imagine Ash and Alexis' cheeks heat up. My thought makes me laugh before my eyes widen. Mom is crazy! I have to go and save them!
I rush out the living room and into the doorway. By the time I arrived, Ash and Alexis were speeding out my driveway. Alexis gives me a small wave when she notices me watching.
"Nice kids." I hear Mom say under her breath.
"Mom, why-How-" I stutter.
"What, I heard that you were going to a DIFFERENT HIGH SCHOOL! Well, I guess it is better than being a dropout. But, still! You could have told me you were going to switch!" Mom rants.
"Mom, I didnt switch." I say. Her face turns into confusion. She uses gestures to urge me on. Mom is an impatient woman. I roll my eyes before continuing, "It is this tradition. Every whatever years, two high schools switch a player on their team."
Mom was zoned out. I follow her gaze to my chest. Furrowing, I pat my sweatshirt. Shit, I was wearing Parker's sweatshirt still. Mom slowly walks over to me and goes face to chest with my sweatshirt.
Her nose hits the fabric and she takes a whiff. Mom swings her head back and looks at me in shock. "You have a boyfriend and you haven't even told me!" Mom yells frantically.
"Mom, Mom, Mom! Chill, I don't have a boyfriend. He is just a friend on my soccer team." I say.
Mom's face turns into horror. "That is even worse! You are sleeping with a random guy!" Mom says before she bends down and puts her hands on her knees. She whispers, "I am such a bad mother!"
I place my hands on her shoulders and lift her back up. "Mom, I am not sleeping with anyone. Parker-" I say and cut myself off. I just said his name. Oh no. This is not good.
The area in which I live in is very small. It didn't take long to know everyone's names and their families. But, everyone knew one family. It was famous throughout the city.
Sophia's Bakery. Everyone in San Fran went to Sophia's Bakery to get meals, snacks, doughnuts, and beverages. That Bakery sells amazing food. Who is Sophia? Sophia Elliot.
Now, for my next family member. You may know him as Parker Elliot! Lets see what we have here. Fantastic Soccer player, straight A student, and has great looks.
Oh, but that's not it. We have one family member next. Madison Elliot. One of the infamous girls in this area. Madison fell into a depression, and went to rehab. But that is all we know about her.
When I come back to reality, I see Mom already in her car. Oh no! I jog to the car and jump into the seat. That was close. No, I literally meant close.
As I was jumping into the moving car, we were speeding down the street. I sit up properly and try my best to reach for the car door which was slamming against everything. I hear Mom call a faint, 'Sorry!'.
Mom's tires screech when she halts a stop in Parker's driveway. She takes a pie out of her glove box. My jaw drops to the ground, was that always in there? Mom catches my stare and laughs hysterically.
"Just in case, dear." Mom says.
Mom and I slammed the door shut. Her barely reaches the door before a lady with curly blonde hair opens the door with a toothy smile on her face. The young girl's expression changes when she meets contact with Mom.
"My name is Maddie Elliot. I see you brought pie?" Maddie says with a grin. Something fishy was going up. The tense air was uncofortable. Jesus, I thought I would escape this when Alexis and Ash left!
An older woman walks by and places a smile on her face. I study her features. It was like I was staring at Maddie, but just a tad bit older. They had the same blonde hair, the green wyes, but this woman was taller. "Maddie! Be a dear and let these kind ladies inside." The older woman says.
Maddie opens the door wider for us and Mom and I walk inside. The memories from team bonding fills my head as I walk past the living room. I internally laugh when I see coloring on the walls. The colored dye looks like the person cleaning had no success and gave up.
"Sophia Elliot." Sophia says, holding out her hand. Mom was the first one to act out and shake her hand. I smiled to her and I firmly grip her hand.
"Arabella Evans and this is my daughter Charlotte Evans." Mom says politely.
"If I am not mistaken, your daughter is a Junior in High School?" Maddie says.
"Yes, I go to San Fran." I respond.
Sophia clasps her hands together and looks directly at me. "How lovely! Actually, my son goes there too. Parker! Honey, will you come downstairs." Sophia calls out.
A door slams open and I hear feet going down the stairs. I turn my head to the brunette boy. Parker. There he was with only grey sweatpants on. He turns to Mom and I and gives a sheepish smile.
"I didn't know we had guests." Parker says through his smile.
"Honey, take Charlotte up to your room. Arabella and I will have a chat." Sophia says.
Parker eyes me before turning his heel. I sigh before walking up the familiar stairs. My feet walk to his door and I lean against the door frame. Parker sits on his bed before walking to the conjoined bathroom.
"You can sit or something. I am just going to change." Parker says.
Why would he change? He could have put on a shirt in front of me. Oh dear, I am thinking of his toned- No! Charlotte, stop your hormones!
I walk to his wooden dresser and slowly open the top drawer. A bunch of diverse clothing items were neatly folded in the dresser. I pick up the first one and bring it up to my nose. I internally moan at the scent. I need to know what cologne he uses!
"If you'd like, you can take some. I can see you enjoy my sweatshirts." A voice says. The voice startles me and I jump off the floor. The sweatshirt that was previously in my hand was on the floor.
I put a hand to my heart. "You can't just sneak up on someone like that!"
Parker's eyes narrow in my direction. "You can't just snoop around in someone's room like that!" Parker mimics.
I keep my eyes locked with his as my movements slow down. My back bends so my finger tips could barely touch the fabric before I yank it up. The tips of my lips turn upward before I run down the stairs. My feet pedal down the stairs as I bolt towards the car.
I sigh in relief when I counted the sweatshirts. Three. None of them had dropped. I really was obsessed with his sweatshirts. They were beyond comfortable when I wear them.
But my mind flashes back to the few hushed words I heard from the kitchen. "You have to tell her, now." But what did that mean? What the hell was going on?
Mom was silent for the rest of the ride home.
