Chapter Two

-

Saturday

"I can't believe you agreed to this," Luke squealed as he hopped into Michaels car.

To Luke's confusion, the boy refused to pick him up outside his house; therefore, he had to walk to the local shop and wait for him. The blonde just assumed he didn't want his parents to see him as they might judge or not let him go.

"I'm just giving you a chance Luke," he reminded the boy. "Don't get too close, this is not permanent."

"I know," Luke nodded. "I hope it will be. I really like you."

Michael chuckled at the younger boy. He still thought he was cute. "You don't even know me, Luke. For all you know I could be some crazy murderer!"

"I'm sure you have a heart of gold," the boy thought positively smiling at his date.

"Let's get going shall we?" the black-haired boy suggested having enough of Luke's sweet talk. He didn't want to fall in deep too soon. He didn't know if he wanted to be in a relationship.

But, Luke reminded him of Jack so much. After all, that's why he gave him the chance.

The boys sit opposite each other in a cheap restaurant which Luke chose. Michael knew the boy wouldn't have much money; therefore, accepted the quality and thought it was a sweet gesture that he'd pay.

"So, what are you having?" the younger boy asked after minutes of silence.

Scanning the small menu, Michael decided, "Cheeseburger and fries please."

Luke smiled and shook his head at the response. It brought back a fond memory. "That was my brothers favourite." Michael smiled but didn't realise that the boy was talking in the past tense. "I'll go order then," Luke said before getting up and gulping. Hearing Michael orders what his brother would usually get made him miss him.

The boy got a bit choked up and didn't want the black-haired boy to see. Little did he know, Michael only ordered that meal because it was his ex' favourite too.

"Long time no see Luke," the waiter behind the till said to the boy who was going to place an order.

"Yeah," Luke laughed. "It's been a while." He had not set foot in this place since his brother died, which was nearly two years now.

"How're you doing after everything?" the waiter asked looking down at the young blonde. He didn't look his happy self.

"I'm fine now. I get down now and then. But, he'll always be in my heart," Luke lied. He'd never got over losing Jack. He just pushed it to the back of his head and pretended to be strong.

"Good, is that your boyfriend?" the man winked, grinning over at the black-haired boy.

"I wish. He decided to give me a chance but I doubt anything will last," Luke pouted sadly.

"But you're so cute and adorable, how could anyone resist you?" he asked messing up the blonde's hair.

Luke shrugged but a smile had crept onto his lips.

"Anyway, what would you like?"

Luke told the waiter his order and went to sit back down opposite Michael.

"You took a while," Michael asked suspiciously.

"I was talking to the waiter," the blonde told him honestly.

"More like flirting?" he raised an eyebrow in suspicion. He was already starting to regret giving Luke a chance.

"What? No!" he exclaimed. "I've known him for ages. I always used to come here," he tried to explain.

"Okay," the black-haired boy left it. "You're cute."

Luke smiled. "Thank you, you are cute too."

Michael didn't really see himself as cute, even though Jack always told him he was.

"You're a nerd aren't you?" Michael asked remembering seeing Luke in the library, his head in a book or talking to his tan friend.

"That's what people label me as" Luke agreed. "I just enjoy learning and being at school."

Michael frowned, how could anyone like school. "Do you not like being at home then?" he asked a little confused.

"Yeah, I do. But, schools a distraction."

"From what?" he asked curiosity wondering what Luke could possibly be suffering from.

"Something," Luke simply stated not wanting to tell Michael yet about his brother. He didn't want the boy to date him out of pity.

However, a lot of people knew about his brother dying. And Michael was in his year so he may already know. Although, Jack didn't tell many people about his brother. He loved him dearly, but he didn't want his friends messing with him.

Looking at the blonde boy Michael thought he had the most mesmerising blue eyes and the softest lips to kiss. He looked perfect. Michael thought he really liked Luke, he had a beautiful personality as well. He was so kind and generous. He was all the boy needed.

"Do people ever call you Clifford the big red dog?" he joked with a smirk on his face.

Letting out a small laugh the black-haired boy said, "All the time and I hate it. It's a lame joke. So don't you dare go calling me it!" Michael warned sarcastically, even though he didn't really care too much.

Luke grinned mischievously whilst letting out a small giggle. The black-haired boy looked at how cute he was.

"Speaking of last names, what's your blondie?" Michael asked unsure of Luke's last name.

"Hemmings. Luke Hemmings," he informed his date.

Michael froze. His eyes fixed on the floor as he mentally freaked out. Just sitting here with Jack's brother felt like he was betraying him. It also felt he was as close to Jack as he could ever get.

He had no idea, this was the Luke his dead boyfriend always talked about. He couldn't handle being with Luke right, now thinking that maybe he shouldn't have given Luke a chance. He should have asked more questions when the blonde asked him out. Bolting up, Michael quickly headed towards the door to get to his car. Forgetting he gave Luke a lift here.

"Michael?" Luke called confused chasing after his crush. He didn't understand why his last name caused a big deal.

Maybe Michael knew Jack well and was affected by it. The blonde didn't know but he was upset.

Michael had just left him in the middle of a date. One that was going pretty well for both.

Luke pouted as he watched Michael drive away. Luke thought he blew his chance now. He'd never be with Michael.

Sighing the blonde decided to take the long walk home. Alone.
