Chapter Three

-

Monday

Luke cried the night he got home. He simply didn't understand what he did wrong. Plus, he really liked Michael and thought there was something there. Apparently not though, seeing as the black-haired boy left him to walk home alone, with no explanation whatever.

Michael, on the other hand, felt awful leaving the young blonde like that. He had no idea how he must feel but was truly sorry. He really did like him, surprisingly, maybe because he was similar to Jack. But, he couldn't let himself date his ex-boyfriend's brother. Even if he were dead. And he really did like him.

Michel decided on trying to avoid the young boy at school. He didn't really know what excuse to make to tell Luke why he quickly rushed out. He could try and avoid the boy but there was no stopping Luke from trying to find him and succeeding. He just had to hope he was lucky.

-

"I just don't understand Cal," Luke pouted as the two walked along the hallway for lunch. So far, Luke has been unsuccessful at finding the black-haired boy. And he was not hard to find. Seeing as he was like no other.

"Maybe he saw someone he knew?" Calum suggested trying to help his confused friends. Neither of them was very good when it came to relationships since they had never actually been in one. Both were far more interested in their academic studies and talking about television or music.

But, Calum had heard a fair few conversations about how much Luke fancied an older boy, named Michael. And he encouraged Luke to go for it.

"No, it was just weird. It was after I told him my last name as well."

"Maybe he realised who your brother was?" the tan boy then suggested. Looking down the blonde nodded in agreement, he just didn't want to be judge by losing his brother.

Ever since his brother drowned, teachers treated the blonde with a whole lot more respect and barely punishment him because of the situation. It made Luke sick. He was his own person and hated being pitied.

"Why don't you ask him?" Calum nudged the blonde pointing over to the canteen door in which Michael had just walked in through, alongside really his only friend, Ashton.

Luke took a deep breath and followed the boy who left him all alone.

-

"So you just left him?" Ashton doubled checked taking a bite of his sandwich.

Michael nodded, he'd just explained the situation which took place a couple of nights ago.

"I feel so bad. I like him as well, but I can't date Jack's younger brother, can I? It's just wrong!"

The curly-haired boy pulled a face. "To be fair mate, he's the only boy or even person you've agreed to go out with within two years. I think that's something. And if he's going to make you happy, then go for it."

Michael sighed. "What if he breaks my heart too?"

"Then he breaks your heart and you get over it. It happens to everyone Michael" Ashton said truthfully. "Luke's lost someone too."

Looking down at the floor Michael thought about it, Jack always talked about Luke in such adoration. He wouldn't mind, he would just want him to be happy. And Luke too.

Next time he looked there was a certain blonde-haired boy heading his way. Taking a deep breath Michael prepared himself.

"Good luck mate!" Ashton chucked patting his friend's shoulder knowing he was going to have to make up a good excuse for why he bolted out of the restaurant.

"Can I talk?" the young boy asks awkwardly, moving his hair out of his face.

"Sure," Michael agreed. Patting the seat next to him. He turned to face the blonde boy and felt a surge of butterflies pass through him. He wasn't sure if it was because he was nervous or because he really liked Luke.

"Why did you leave?" the young boy asked. His ocean blue eyes looking up at the older boy, he seemed so innocent and Michael couldn't find it in himself to hurt him. Or tell him any of the truth.

"I forgot to feed the cat," he blurted out hurriedly.

Luke frowned, not looking convinced. Michael himself wasn't either. "The cat?"

"Uh, yeah."

"Why couldn't you have told me?" Luke asked but still didn't believe the boy. Obviously, he didn't want to say the truth and as much as annoyed the blonde he let it slide.

"I guess I just panicked," Michael said as he'd to try to casually work his way through this unconvincing lie.

"But, couldn't the cat wait a little while?" Luke sighed.

"Yeah. But, I mean mum would go nuts if she found out I didn't feed him. It's the best thing that ever happened to her," he fibbed.

Taking a deep breath Luke nodded just leaving it, right now he just wanted to know if Michael still wanted to give him a chance. "Do you still want to give me a chance?" Luke smiled looking into the pale boys emerald eyes. He thought they were beautiful just like every other feature of him. Luke especially loved his lips. They were red and sort of heart-shaped. He really wanted to kiss them. But, he knew that would definitely ruin his chance with Michael. "Do you want to come round mine on Wednesday?" he asked hopefully.

Biting his lip Michael pondered and began to panic. He'd never been to Luke's house before. Jack never took him there. But, he knew his parents knew him. He was there when his parents were at the police station. He was being interviewed because he was one of Jack's 'friends' when he fell in.

That's what everyone thought. He just didn't want Luke's parents to dislike him because of that situation.

But, he couldn't say no to the fifteen-year-old who was sat there all sweetly. His hands in his lap and his legs moving about. Once again, the black-haired boy thought he was so cute. "Okay," he nodded, slightly regretting it. However, he really wanted to spend time with the boy he might be falling for. Get to know him.

"Yey!" Luke squealed clapping his hands happily, causing a few weird stares."Thank you so much, Michael!" he smiled standing up. "You won't regret it!"

He leaned over and gave the boy a tight hug, which took Michael off guard. He wrapped his arms around Luke's body and took in his scent. It was the same as Jacks. Michael smiled properly for the first time in two years.

Luke skipped off out of the canteen after saying goodbye.

He left Michael sat there smiling like an idiot watching him go. His body tingling with the feeling of what could possibly be love.
