He slammed the door behind him and started running, following the trail Dani Louise had left. Speaking of her, he saw her in the haze as she approached. She seemed to whimper as if she was scared.
"Where's Hayden?" George asked. He mounted the stallion and she rode off towards Hayden's location.
The horse raced through the snow, faster than George was thought possible. He could see the snow kicking up behind them and he finally saw wolves feet away.
Dani Louise halted and George jumped off. He saw Hayden encircled in wolves. She kicked at the ones who approached, and George saw her leg bleeding, and understood why she wasn't standing up.
George growled and attacked the wolves. They latched themselves on him and bit, scratched, and kicked at him. Hayden watched with wide eyes as he was attacked. But she wasn't as concerned as one might be, considering he was huge and seemed to take pain well.
He knocked off 4 of the 7 wolves on him and threw 2 others against a tree, where they whimpered and left. One was left and it scratched all the way down his face. George cried out in pain and couldn't get it off of him. Hayden scooted forward and kicked the wolf in the nose. It whimpered and went to attack her, but she grabbed a sharp limb and stabbed it in the side. It cried out and ran away, and they were left in silence.
Hayden was hesitant in saying something considering George was cold as it was, and now he just saved her life, taking a couple painful shots in the process.
"George..."
"We'll talk when we get back to Friar Park." He stood up and pulled her up effortlessly, setting her on the back of Dani Louise. He climbed up in front of her and she held onto his cloak. Apparently the wolves also scratched his arm, just as deeply as his face. Both were dripping blood.
It was silent on the way back and once they got to the barn, Hayden had fallen asleep. George got off and saw her sleeping, having sympathy for her.
Her leg was losing blood fast. He could see the gash all the way up her calf through her jeans. He looked at her sleeping face.
She's so fucking beautiful. She doesn't deserve something like this, he thought. He gently pulled her off the horse, carrying her bridal style back up to Friar Park. She woke up when he shut the door behind them.
"Master, what happened?" Ringo asked.
"Shh," George said. "She's asleep," he whispered.
"No, I'm awake," Hayden said. "And my leg hurts like a bitch." Her voice sounded strained and in pain, and George's heart broke a little. "I'm gonna go upstairs. Put me down."
George knew what was coming next and prepared to catch her. He put her down and she fell again, right up against him.
"No, I'll take you upstairs. Come on," he said, and picked her back up. She didn't protest but let him carry her upstairs. Everybody was asleep so he tried to be quiet.
He took her in the lounge upstairs, in the east wing across from her room. He set her on the couch in there and lit a fire. Hayden watched and elevated her foot. George didn't care that her blood stained the pillow.
"I'm sorry, George..."
"Don't... apologize," he stressed. "But if it happens again, you're locked up."
Hayden nodded in understanding.
"Thank you," she whispered. George turned and his brown eyes looked right into her own. The entire left side of his face was scratched and bloody, as was his forearm.
"For you," was all he said before he left. Hayden sat there, not knowing what to do. She remembered the pain in her leg, and rolled her jeans up far enough that it got tight around her calf. It stopped blood flow and soon it subsiding in bleeding. She took her boots off and let the remaining blood drip down her foot.
George returned with a bowl of water and two rags.
"What are those for?" Hayden asked.
"For your leg," he replied shortly, kneeling down in front of the couch, where Hayden could see the gashes on his face clearly. They were deep, and staining his fur quickly.
"Put your leg down." Hayden didn't listen, just took his face in her hand and tilted it to look at the gashes. He surprisingly didn't object.
"Those are really deep."
"No way." Hayden smiled the slightest bit at George's sarcasm. He smiled a little too. Her deep brown eyes were so innocent. He didn't want her to leave, but he knew why she wanted to. George gently pulled her cut leg to the floor and propped it up on his knee. He dabbed at the open wound, and Hayden cried out. George immediately withdrew.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry..."
"Fucking hell, that hurts like a bitch!" She cried. George ever so gently put pressure on it, mopping up the blood around it. When he went back to the open cut, he soaked the rag again and squeezed the excess water onto her leg. It stung. But Hayden bit her lip.
"You okay?" George asked. Hayden nodded and he carefully finished, drying it off with the dry rag. He wrapped it in bandages tightly, and could see the blood start to show when she rolled her jeans back down. He went to stand up but Hayden sat him back down.
"Let me help you." She put the rag in the bowl again and took the side of his face in her hand again. She brought the rag up to one of the three open wounds and put pressure on it. George cried out, growling at the same time, shaking the walls. Hayden didn't cower back, but kept his face in her hand.
"Hold still!" She shouted. George breathed heavily as he kept his head still. Hayden continued to clean his open wounds, and she could hear the tiniest of heartbreaking whimpers coming from him. She felt for him.
She didn't know why he was a beast, but wanted to know. But right now she just focused on taking care of him.
"Alright, that part is done," she said gently. George breathed out as she finally got the bleeding to stop. Next she took his muscular arm and set it on her lap. She straightened out the cloth and laid it over the three marks, and palmed it to out pressure on his arm. She saw George bit his bottom lip and squeeze his brown eyes shut.
"This one isn't very bad." Hayden mopped up the excess blood that ran down his wrist. George looked up at her with eyes that seemed to full of sadness. She looked up at him as well and saw some kind of light in his eyes. He didn't look so evil and cold, but looked compassionate. Hayden lowered her eyes, because she knew that despite the light in his eyes he was still a cold, cruel beast.
She got his arm cleaned up and wrapped, for it was still bleeding. He took his arm off her leg and stood up, offering a hand to Hayden. She hesitantly took it and he pulled her up. Her leg shot with pain, she couldn't walk on her own. George wrapped an arm around her shoulders, keeping her upright and helped her across the hall to her room. He sat her on the bed and went to leave, but Hayden's voice stopped him.
"Thank you, George," she said softly. "For saving my life."
George looked at her with gentle eyes again and smiled the slightest bit.
"Your life is worth saving." With that he shut the door and Hayden was left a little stunned. What did he mean by that?
She decided to think about it later, and struggled her jeans off and out on her pajama shorts that Maureen gave her, along with the shirt. She put them on and laid down, elevating her foot in the process. She fell asleep without a sound, while George kept himself awake with the thought of losing her.
