2 weeks had passed. Hayden didn't hear a thing from George. He hadn't called once and she hadn't seen him at all.
This was his fault. He brought this upon himself. Yes, it was hell for Hayden too, but she had Ada. That was all she needed right now.
She did get a call from Topher a few days ago when she was sitting in her house in the woods playing with Ada on the floor. He said he was coming home in 3 more weeks after his stage 1 training was over. She was excited, and it would be the first time he would see his niece.
Life was okay from her point of view, but Hayden had no idea what was going on at Friar Park. And it would be better if she never found out.

He was skinny. He was skinny before, but now he was skinny. He refused to eat, or call his wife because he still wasn't completely calm.
None of this would have happened if it wasn't for fucking Paul. He threatened them and lied to George, he later realized, about Hayden cheating on him.
Pattie came over one day when George was sitting in the lounge staring mindlessly at the crackling fire in the huge fireplace. He was warm enough that he was only in pajama pants and shirtless. His hair had grown longer and he hadn't shaved in a while. His eyes were dull, full of sadness. What would freak Hayden out the most is that his ribs were like handles that somebody could hold onto from underneath. His lack of muscle was slowly killing him, along with the lack of his love.
"George?" Pattie called, opening the door. She went upstairs, knowing George was most likely in the lounge. She opened the door and saw him sitting criss crossed on the floor in front of the fire. She saw beads of sweat on his chest and head and sighed. George looked up at the sound and his eyes were visibly brimming with tears.
"George, what happened?" Nobody else had known that the two were separated. She looked at his torso, unhealthily skinny and back up at his eyes. He looked back at the fireplace.
"I fucked up. Really, really bad," he said blankly. Pattie sar next to him, setting her purse on the couch and bringing his eyes to hers.
"Can you tell me why Hayden and Ada aren't here?"
He sniffed and looked right into Pattie's ocean blue eyes. "I hit her. I thought she was lying and I hit her. I promised I wouldn't ever but I did... she's gone, and I don't know when she's coming back..." He collapsed in Pattie's arms, sobbing. She instinctively wrapped her arms around him and held his head to her heart.
"Listen to me, George, and answer one thing... how did it start?"
"Paul threatened them and he told me he fucked her. I thought he was telling the truth because I was a stupid asshole and she tried to tell the truth but I hit her. She left with Ada. It's all my fault..." He cried.
"No, no, George, it isn't your fault. I'll go and talk to Paul later. She say anything else?"
George reached into the pocket of his pajama pants and pulled o it the crumpled piece of paper she left. He gave to her. She opened it up and read it.
"Oh my God..." She finished reading it and felt George's tears dampen her shirt. "Thats the number to her house in the woods. Why don't you call her?"
"I can't. I just can't, Pattie."
"Yes, you can George... you're stronger than any guy I know. You can do something like this as easy as ripping a piece of paper."
"What will she say?"
"I don't know, but we won't know unless you call her."
He waited a few silent seconds before sitting up and going to his desk to the phone and bringing it back to his spot beside Pattie. He picked it up and put it to his ear, before dialing her house number on the spin dial. He sniffed as it rang.
"No, I can't..." He went to put the phone down but Pattie's soft hand stopped him.
"Yes, you can. I know you well enough that you can."
He sighed and put it back up to his ear.

The phone rang in the middle of her playing with Ada on the floor, and they both looked up at the noise. Hayden tensed.
It's probably him. Maybe some sense was knocked into him.
She slowly got up and put the phone to her ear. It would have been silent if something didn't thud on the other side.
~
"George?" Pattie asked. George just collapsed, and lay still on the ground, eyes closed. She didn't know that he had been starving himself. It finally took its toll.
"George!" She shouted. Hayden heard that, and knew Pattie's high pitched voice anywhere.
"Pattie? Pattie, what's going on?" She said loudly. Pattie heard it and picked up the phone. She had rolled George onto his back and checked his breathing and heartbeat. He was breathing weakly and his heartbeat stopped in sync with it seconds later.
"Shit!" She put the phone to her ear. "Hayden?"
"What's going on?"
"George just collapsed. I don't know what to do!"
"Is he breathing?"
"No!" Hayden dropped the phone on the ground and ran to Ada, who was confused as to why her mother was shouting into the phone. Hayden picked her up and slipped into her shoes, grabbing Ada's bag and running outside.
She quickly put the baby girl in her carrier in the car and jumped in, starting the engine and putting it in gear towards Friar Park.
She worried the whole way while Ada played with a rattle. She finally pulled up to the gate and got Peter to come inside as well. He jumped in the Cadillac and they drove the winding road to the mansion. She parked in the front and ran in while Peter took Ada. She burst through the door and knew exactly where they were.
She sprinted up the stairs and busted into the lounge, where Pattie was doing CPR on George, chest compressions and mouth to mouth resuscitation. It wasn't working.
"Hayden, he's not waking up!" Hayden knelt down beside his head and put it in her lap. She saw Pattie crying. She cared about him more than a lot of people in her life, because they had known each other since childhood.
"George, please don't do this..." She dipped her head and kissed his lips as if it was the last time. It could easily be the last time if he was done for good. "Don't leave now." She out his head back down on the ground and started doing CPR on him this time. His lips were cold when she did mouth to mouth, and she shuddered.
It still wasn't working.
"Pattie, call 999, now!" She took the phone from the floor and dialed emergency as Peter came in.
"What happened?"
"We're losing him. We have to get to the hospital. Now."
