Hayden and Christopher were released a week later. They still didn't know why Hayden went crazy that night like she did, but it hadn't happened again since. They figured it was just part of the birthing process, this one scarier to her than the first.
She went home and went straight to bed with Christopher. She was beat, and didn't really know what to do besides sleep.
George looked outside at the snow falling on the late December day. He realized he had completely forgotten.
It's December 30.
Christopher is a Christmas baby.
Now that he actually thought about it, he remembered that it was December 22 when he left. She hadn't even said a thing about Christmas. He didn't get anything for her, and felt bad now.
He wanted to go out, but his 11 month old daughter sitting on the floor playing with blocks said otherwise. She indicated that she wanted him to come and play with her by opening and closing her outstretched fists, so he did. In the midst of that, he picked up the phone.
~
Cynthia drove the familiar winding road and stopped at the smaller house that Michael and Peter stay at. Peter was standing outside, obviously working his shift while Michael slept, and asked for the phone.
"What for?" He asked Cynthia while giving it to her.
"I have some things for them for Christmas that Hayden asked me to get and a couple things from myself and the girls."
"Aw, that's nice Cyn."
"Which reminds me..." She reached into the back seat, where Julian was sleeping soundly, and pulled three wrapped boxes into the front. One was bigger, another slightly smaller, and the smallest was a cube shape. "Here," she said, holding them out the window for Peter to take.
"Are these for me? Or us?"
"The biggest one is for Michael, the other two are for. We missed Christmas because Christopher was born so might as well do something tonight. Everyone's coming over."
"By everyone you mean who?"
"Well, the boys got to leave early from Berlin, and they should be flying home now. Pattie and Maureen are taking the kids to pick them up and bring them here, a bunch of family, and a couple other friends."
"Does Hayden know?"
"She doesn't know that her brothers fiancé is coming, but she knows about the rest. But I figured if one of you guys had to work tonight, I might as well give them to you now. Happy Christmas."
Peter smiled widely, his perfect smile revealing his perfect portrait.
"Thank you so much, Cyn. This means a lot." He reached his head in the car and gave her a kiss on the cheek.
"So which one of you is working then?"
"I am. Michael should be up in a few minutes to take over anyway."
"Alright, well I need to drop all this stuff off so I'll see you later Peter."
"Alright, bye Cynthia." She rolled her window back up and drove the rest of the way to the mansion. She went inside, past the living room where George and Ada were playing, and up the stairs. She knocked quietly on the bedroom door.
"Come in!" Came a lively response. She went in, where Hayden was sitting in the corner with a blanket over her. "Hey!"
"Hey, Hayden! I would assume the boy's under there?"
Hayden nodded, smiling, she was wide awake and soon reached up and pulled her t-shirt down, then took the blanket off of her front, revealing Christopher, who was peacefully looking around. His brown eyes scanned the room curiously. "Sorry, he's been fussing so I figured what better way?"
Cynthia laughed and pulled her in for a hug. "How much harder was this one than Adair's?"
"Not too much worse, actually," she said while hoisting Christopher up over her shoulder and standing up straighter. "The biggest problem was that the pain stuff they put me on didn't work."
They sat by the window and talked for a while, and soon she had switched Julian and Christopher and Cynthia peacefully rocked the infant to sleep. Julian fell asleep in Hayden's lap peacefully.
"Is everything still outside?" Hayden asked.
"Yeah, I'm pretty sure one of the boys at the gate said he as going to come up and bring them all in for us."
"Fabulous."
~
Several hours later, there were over 60 people at Friar Park. Most people fawned over every child there, then resorted to wine and food. Music played from every room, a different song everywhere.
Hayden finally took Christopher up to his room and put him to bed. Before he was born, same with Adair, their rooms had been temporarily soundproofed in a special way. They couldn't hear hardly anything from inside the room, but anybody could hear anything from outside coming from the inside.
This helped in the process of getting the two of them to fall asleep quickly, and allowing the mother of the two children to know they're safe and walk away.
Hours after that, most people had gone home. Hayden fell asleep on the couch in the music studio, on the couch next to the piano. George walked in when everyone was gone and laid a hand on her shoulder. She stirred awake and looked up at him.
"Hi," she whispered.
"Do you want to come up to bed?"
"Yeah, I'll be up soon."
George left the room while Hayden sat up. She stood up and left the room, hearing voices in the main hall.
"Will I see you tomorrow then? Meet you in the bedroom maybe?" A woman asked. Hayden saw the tall blonde pressed up against George. He was completely sober, knowing exactly what he was doing when his hands touched her in the most inappropriate places. Hayden closed her eyes, feeling the burning sensation of tears clouding her vision.
"Yeah, Hayden's gonna be out with the kids. I'll make sure she's gone."
"Great. See you tomorrow... lover." Hayden heard the slappy sound of a kiss, and nearly threw up. She finally heard the front door close. She snuck out and went across the hall to their room, and soon George joined her. He didn't say anything as Hayden pretended to fall asleep, and soon he actually did, cheek resting against her back as they both laid on their sides.
Hayden wondered what she was going to do. This was not something she could possibly stand any longer.
~
At 5 in the morning, Hayden had tears streaming down her face as she silently packed everything she wanted. George was peacefully sleeping on their bed while she prepared to leave.
She silently left the room and went across the hall to the room of her two children. She already had everything they would need packed up and all she had to do was put everything in her car, get them dressed and ready, and start for the airport.
20 minutes later, she was driving the winding road while her children sleepily wondered what was going on. Christopher was a newborn, but she couldn't handle this anymore. It wasn't worth it to stay.
She thought about the note she left.
George,
I know about your little slut. I saw you kiss her and I saw you touch her in places that isn't acceptable if you have a wife. If you have a girlfriend on the side of our marriage, which I thought meant something to you, then you can just marry her, because I don't want to see you anymore. I have a habit of leaving my problems behind me, but last time did it in after I saw this. If you still love me, you wouldn't have Frenched her in plain sight in front of me when you knew I was right there. Whatever we had is gone, and I honestly don't ever want to see you again. My children are with me. They may be yours too, but you don't even show it.
Hayden Joshua
She had made sure she used her maiden name, because she was no longer a part of his life. Of course she would miss him, but it was the least of all of her worries. Right now she had to raise her kids somewhere that wasn't here, here meaning England... Europe, really.
After a 5 hour flight, they descended in Chicago, Illinois, United States of America.
