A slow thrum of excitement made it's way though her. She could tell her wolves felt the same.
Standing up front. She was first to be alerted of the approaching newborns, despite having the weakest hearing and eyesight. The trembling of the earth alerted her to it better than anyone else.
"They're coming," her voice rang out, seconds before Alice's voice did from much further behind her.
Emmett tensed. His excitement being dulled by the potential threat to his mate.
"Don't die," he called to her.
"Don't jinx it," she fired back playfully.
Emmett growled lightly. "I'm serious."
"I know."
Aleida pulled on her connection with Emmett firmly, ensuring that it was intact before calling up the earth.
The newborns came running straight towards her, the vampires behind her prepared to strike as the earth split open. A chasm appeared, Aleida didn't have the time to see how far down she had willed it to go.
The first few newborns fell right through before realizing the mistake. They turned to Aleida threateningly as the Cullen's came forward, Emmett in the lead.
They fell into a rhythm. Emmett moved around Aleida, catching those that got too near, preventing her from getting hurt. Aleida danced around, her body dancing to the silent beat of the earth. She was aware of everyone in the field, aware of every foot fall and attack.
She felt when the pack joined, bringing the second wave of newborns. She felt herself become hyper-aware. She was surrounded by family, but she feared for her wolves. She new them best, she was closest to them; she hadn't even met all the Cullen's yet.
Lifting her hands, she clenched her fist tightly before slamming them down. She released a current of energy through the ground beneath her, the earth moved and wavered as if it as water, knocking only the newborns off balance. Aleida felt her knees go weak and a few bruises appear as she held the force back from hitting the pack or the Cullen's, pain coursing though her as she channeled it around them. Attacks that direct and powerful ere meant for someone much more skilled.
The newborns gravitated to her. The scent of her blood blood might have been hidden behind the smell of nature but it was still prominent in the field of people. Her Emmett was never far, he lingered near her, every instinct telling him not to stray because of the danger that she was in.
From the corner of her eye she saw Leah and Embry moving in closer to her, the to her boys moved around with ease. She could only imagine what the pack link sounded like at the moment.
Punching her had into the air, a wall of solid rock appeared in front of a feral newborn that was attacking one of her boys. It quickly redirected it's attention towards her. A snarl on it's lips as it saw her flushed cheeks. A key sign of blood flowing beneath her skin.
She was ready for the newborn running at her full force, she wasn't ready for Embry to jump in the way. Her heart slammed in her chest at the sight of the newborns arms around him.
Aleida felt the world around her fade out, all her energy solely focused on him. She didn't notice the approaching newborns from behind her, or the panic surging through the other wolves.
She stomped her foot, the ground cracking underneath the newborn slightly. Flicking her fingers, the earth rose between her target and the wolf abruptly, forcing the vampire back.
Aleida's eyes were hard as she focused on the newborn, frustration clear on his face. Lifting her finger, she guided the rock around him, closing it in tight.
