"What are you holding out on us, Reid? I can practically see the gears turning up in there." Derek asked playfully, eyebrows raised at me. We were currently examining the whole scene and interviewing the witnesses; there wasn't a lot to work with. Something was off. I could feel it in my bones. We were missing something here; a key piece of information.

"Nothing, I'm just considering....possibilities." My eyes skimmed over the notes from the interviews. According to the head waitress, Lynn, a Caucasian male dressed in a blue sweater hoodie and black track pants, a red baseball cap and black sunglasses had walked in carrying the newborn. He claimed to have found her in the parking lot behind a garbage bin. The place was connected to a alley and was normally deserted and alone.

As soon as he handed the baby over to a waitress, claiming to not know what to do, he headed to a payphone in the diner and called 9-1-1. It's an old fashion diner which had no video cameras, he probably made sure of that before coming here. A commotion started and no one saw him slip out. It should've been easy considering there's a back door. They claimed he sincerely looked distressed and scared. Maybe it was true, his plan had failed and he wanted to save the infant, but why? Why would he try to save the baby and risk getting exposed in the process? Was it possible he knew for sure that he wasn't going to get identified?

The words written under the men's bathroom sink was still quite fresh. Sharpie was scrawled fast. The Unknown Subject (typically known as an Unsub) likely wrote this after handing off the kid and calling dispatches.

My eyes raked the outside of the diner only to see journalists and reporters crowding the windows, civilians not to far behind them. I frowned, how did word get out so fast? "Emily come with me. We are going to tell the media just bits and pieces. Follow my lead." Special Agent Emily Pond nodded and quickly followed me out the door.

Flashes went off rapidly, cameras, recorders, notebooks and phones were all shoved into my face. I held my hand up and made a shooing movement. Respectively, they all backed up a bit.

"Sir, is this baby left here connected to the recent murders?" One reporter asked, sticking a microphone in my face. I nodded, a tight lipped smile appearing.

"Yes. We suspect so but we cannot give further affirmation at the moment. We are currently working hard to find this killer. We've had some leads that get us nowhere but we are emitting together more clues. There should be an answer soon," I promised with a straight poker face.

"Is there any reason to why this man is targeting mothers?" We didn't release full details of the murders but some things had to get out. I looked at Emily and gave a slight nod, telling her to continue the press conference.

"We aren't sure at the moment but we have a couple theories," she paused. "That is all for now. The public will be informed when further action occurs. Thank you." With that abrupt and finished statement, Emily and I walked back into the diner.

"How'd it go?" Derek asked as soon as we had reentered. Emily sighed and took a seat. "Some people are just so nosey."

Derek chuckled, it was a true fact. On a case, sometimes the hardest thing to control is the media. Nosey pests always trying to pry into things we really cannot reveal. Then again, at times the media could be helpful. Sometimes all we need to do is lie to the public and lure the Uusub in. As always, there is a good side and bad side to everything and everyone.

"Are we just about done here?" David Reynolds, our most experienced agent nodded. "Deputy Woods is just going to finish up with a few witness sketches and clean up the place, so we're done here. Has Gina's husband called yet?" David responded.

I opened my mouth about to answer when the shrill ring of my phone went off. "You apparently read the future." David smiled cheekily, eyes twinkling. My hand delved into my pants pocket and grabbed the Samsung Note.
