Chapter 19 The End

Amy POV

I woke up to a warm light. Well... I wasn't warm because of the light. I felt the black hedgehog laying beside me shift. He must have been really tired. After last night, he just collapsed. He was probably tired. I watched his ear twitch and I suppressed a giggle.

I watched his eyes open slightly. He grunted and quickly grabbed me in a hug. I gave a high pitched giggle and he stopped after a few seconds. He stretched out and so did I. He got up and walked over to the fridge, opening it and looking in.

I suddenly herd a knock at the door and I perked up. He looked at me as I got up.
"Don't you dare, Rose" he said as he walked towards the door. I rolled my eyes playfully. Great. Now he won't even let me answer the door. He opened it to see Sonic. He looked past Shadow and at me.

"Hey, Amy!" He said, pushing past Shadow. I smiled.
"Hey, Sonic. Thanks for yesterday" I said. He blushed.
"No problem." He walked over.
"I was wondering if you would like to join Rouge, Knuckles and I in going into town for brunch this morning" he offered. I nodded and felt Shadow place his hand on my shoulder.

"I'll be coming along too" said Shadow. Sonic hesitated but nodded.
"Fine, fine. Bring the ancient one. But don't be late" he joked. "We're meeting up in a hour." I nodded and Sonic left.

"I don't like him" said Shadow suddenly. I looked at him, stunned.
"Oh, please. He helped you fight Eggman!" I exclaimed. He narrowed his eyes.
"I could have done it myself." My mouth dropped open and I shook my head. I wasn't going to fight about this.
"Fine. Fine. You're the best Shadow. You don't need anyone" I said.

He stared at me as I walked down the hall to his room. I turned on the light and opened the blinds. I took a shower and started getting ready. I took a shower and put on the new dress Rouge had gotten for me. Shadow and I were ready and started walking down to the cafe.

I looked up at Shadow as we walked side by side.
"Listen, Shadow. I don't want to hear either you or Sonic bickering. No snide comments or general hatred, ok?" I said. He looked down at me and nodded.
"Alright, Rose" he said as he grabbed my hand and squeezed it softly. "I'll be good." I smiled and we carried on.

We made it to the cafe and walked in to see Knuckles and Rouge sitting at a booth. Rouge looked up at us and waved, smiling happily. We walked over and sat down.
"Amy, it's good to see you!" Said Knuckles.
"I see you're wearing the dress I picked out. I have such good taste!" Said Rouge, proud of herself.

I smiled.
"Thanks for buying it. I really like it" I said.
"No problem" she replied.
I propped my chin on my hands and stared at the two sitting beside each other. Rouge noticed my confusion. Right now they would be ripping each others hair out by now.
"Amy, Shadow. Wanna hear a secret?" Asked Rouge suddenly. I leaned in happily.

"Knuckles and I are dating!" I gasped with delight.
"Oh my gosh Rouge thats amazing!" I said. She smiled.
"Didn't know hot head here had a thing for you" said a sudden voice. I looked up to see Sonic. He smiled sheepishly and sat beside Knuckles.
"Hey, Sonic! Fastest thing alive and you're the last one here!" I laughed.

He looked at me with a surprised expression like he hadn't expected me to act so loose and happy. He smiled and nervously scratched the back of his head.
"Yeah, I just– I just had to get some stuff done" he said. A waitress came around and took our order. After a few minutes of silence, I broke it.

"So, Rouge. Tell me how this whole thing with you and Knuckles started" I said. She perked up and smiled.
"Well, Silver, Blaze, Knuckles and I were standing down at the dock. And of course, Silver and him were horsing around and when knuckles went to lunge at Silver, he stepped out of the way and Knuckles crashed into me." Rouge placed her hand on Knuckles and giggled.

"We fell into the water! Oh, I was so mad so Silver and Blaze convinced him to buy me supper and it turned out so well that we decided to do it again and again!" I laughed. Love is such a strange thing. One moment you could be in pain then the next it could be standing in front of you. I looked up at Shadow and held his hand. Thats the way our love worked.

Our orders came, we ate then walked outside after paying.
"Knuckles and I have to go. Sorry, Ames" said Rouge.
"No! No worries" I reassured. "We'll go out another time and it'll be great!" Rouge smiled and we hugged. The two walked away and I was left standing outside with Sonic as I waited for Shadow.

Sonic turned to me.
"Hey, Amy. Listen" he started. I looked over at him. "I– me and Sally have been dating and stuff, and she makes me really happy, so... I just wanted to clear the air with us."
I was surprised, but smiled.
"Sonic, that's fantastic" I said. "And I know that things were getting complicated between us, I was hurt too."

Sonic smiled sheepishly.
"Ready to go?" Asked Shadow as he stepped put of the cafe doors. I nodded.
"Hey, Shadow" said Sonic as he stepped toward him. "I just wanted to say that... I'm sorry. For everything."
Sonic held out his hand, waiting for Shadow to shake it so that this feud could be buried at last.

Shadow studied it then placed his hand to his.
"You're alright... faker" said Shadow. I smiled, tears of joy welling up. Thank god. I held Shadows hand.
"lets go home" I said. He nodded and we walked down the sidewalk together. I looked back at Sonic for the last time and waved goodbye.

He smiled and waved back. I watched as he spotted Sally across the street and zoomed over to her, talking with her happily. I looked back at the path ahead of us.

It was hard to let Sonic go. The pain was still there and the scars still needed healing. If only Shadow could use chaos heal for that too.

I stopped Shadow. He looked down at me with a puzzled glance.
"Shadow, I'm glad I got lost in that forest." He looked surprised.
"Why is that?" He questioned.
"Because you found me."
He smiled and hugged me.

I guess I can be foolish and Shadow can be inconsiderate. But we fix each others flaws. And I think that's good enough for me.
