I tiredly opened my eyes. Everything was so blurry. It was light out. Morning. I sat up and my head swam.
I recalled it all. How I ran after Sonic and tripped on my feet, making me smash into the water.
How I blacked out and woke up from CPR. I didn't remember much about after that. I looked around.
I was in my house– perhaps Sonic brung me back.

Puzzled, I got up, wincing at some pain. I was in my dress from last night.
It smelt of the lake, and so did my bed.
I had a shower, washed my bedding and changed into my light blue dress and walked down the stairs of my house.

I turned the corner and to my surprise, found a rose on the couch with a little letter. I ran over, and swiftly picked it up, a long with the letter.
The letter read; "forgot this?"
I hit my back against the wall and slid down it.
"Shadow saved me" I whispered quietly.

I smiled and looked at the note.
He was clever. Without him I would be dead by now, drowned in the lake.
I ate some breakfast and baked cookies.
I hoped Shadow liked cookies or else I would look like a real fool.
I put the cookies in a basket and walked down to the forest.
I had forgot the total warnings of it being dangerous. And that was bad.

The forest was nice today.
It was still dark in there, but I knew that Shadow would be here.
I heard footsteps behind me and out of the corner of my eye, saw a blue hedgehog. It was indeed, Sonic.
I turned around, a smile of greeting on my face.
"Hi Sonic" I said happily.
"Hey-a Ames. What you doing out here again?" he asked.
"I was just on a stroll" I lied. He frowned.
"Don't you know this place is dangerous?" Said Sonic.
"And why is it so dangerous?" I asked.
Sonic sighed and shook his head.
"Ames... you remember Shadow, right?" I nodded, already feeling guilty.

"We think he still works for Eggman" he said. I laughed inside. Cause he didn't anymore. Or... at least I didn't think so.
"Nonsense" I said and turned to walk away.
"Whats in the basket Amy? What are you doing here?" He asked.
"There are cookies in this basket and this is a short cut to my grandmas house." uh oh. She was pinned now. Because she didn't have a grandmother and Sonic knew it.

"Amy, why are you really here?"
"Sonic- I- I- I was bringing these cookies to Cream and got distracted from the sidewalk." Another lie.
I almost believed that I was meant to stay in this forest like the other bad people did. Funny how the only person I saw in this forest was Shadow.
"Here, I'll walk you there" he offered.
I shook my head.
"No need, I am fine, you can go" I said as I gestured to the road behind him.
I knew that he was suspicious. Why wouldn't he be? Uncertainty waved in his eyes and he shook his head.

"You could get into trouble" he pointed out. I tensed and turned away.
"I don't care, Sonic" I said.
"I- I'd be able to take care of myself if anything bad were to happen."
I could feel tears form in my eyes.
"Ames, I just don't want to see you get hurt" he said. I whipped around, anger coursing through my veins.

"Then what do you want, Sonic the hedgehog?" I cried out.
Sonic was taken aback. He was so shocked that he couldn't move.
"I loved you, but you don't love me." I looked down at my shoes.
"That's why I found someone that would" I whispered with a small smile as I remembered the dark hedgehog and his red tinted quills.

I looked up at Sonic, whom had a look of confusion in his eyes.
"I need to go" I said stiffly. With that, I turned around and bolted quickly.
I ran for about a minuet and turned a corner, smashing into someone.

At first I thought it was Shadow, but it wasn't. A tall, black fox turned around. One of his eyes was grey and the other was blue. He smiled.
"What's a nice little thing like you doing all the way out here?" He asked.

"I- I was bringing these to my- my-." But I didn't know what to call Shadow.
The fox snatched the basket and looked inside.
"Cookies" he commented. He looked up from the basket, making me shiver.

"Are they as sweet as you?" He asked.
My eyes widened and I fled quickly.
I heard a ghastly laughing from behind me, making me pick up speed.

I turned a corner and before I could stop, hit a stone wall.
"What the–?" I mumbled as I rubbed my head. I looked over to see the fox turn the corner and smile.
Oh dear god. This was it. My eyes teared up and I put my face into my hands. I was going to die here.

I heard I gasp and then an "oof."
But I didn't dare look up yet.
It sounded like someone else was here. Suddenly, everything went silent.
"Rose?" My ears perked and I looked up to see a black hedgehog. He had blood from the corner of his mouth, but that was all the wounds I could see.
The black fox was laying on the ground, thankfully unconscious.

"Shadow?" I asked as my eyes streamed with tears. Shadow walked over and kneeled down.
"Are you ok?" He asked.
I lunged at Shadow and hugged him. At first, he seemed surprised, but hugged back.
"You're the reason I'm not dead yet" I whispered.

"I'm the only reason you could have been dead" he countered.
I withdrew and looked at him, running my thumb to the corner of his mouth to wipe off the blood.
"But you're my hero" I said as I looked into his eyes.
"And now you're the one who saves me."
He arched an eyebrow and for the first time ever in the moment of history,

I seen Shadow the hedgehog smile.
