"Kate, are you sure you want to do this? He's never backed down from a challenge. He'll do it, I know he will and once we bring it up, there's no going back." Dana sat behind his desk, leaning back in his chair. His arms were crossed and a concerned look appeared on his face.
I knew he was worried about me but I knew what I wanted and that was for Cain to suffer. Dana White, my best friend and boss, was the President of the UFC and he had asked me for my opinion, which I gave. Cain was the UFC Heavyweight Champion and he had officially beaten everyone on the current roster. Dana needed to come up with a new opponent for him for UFC 205, otherwise, Cain would be the first champion to go undefeated and that wouldn't be best for business. The fans wanted to see something different and I had given him the best option for everyone...
Brock Lesnar.
"Dana, he was gone for five years, he returned last month at UFC 200 and beat the crap out of Mark Hunt. The fans love him because he lives up to his nickname, the beast incarnate. I know he's signed with WWE but they allowed him to come back for the last fight which means they can do it again. What other option is there?"
He sighed and leaned forward, clasping his hands together. "You know that I would do anything for you and if this is what you want, I'll make it happen." He hesitated but continued. "The past six months have been rough for both of us. I lost my assistant and my best friend to an illness that I couldn't fix. Nothing would make me happier than to strip Cain of his championship and send him packing but I can't. His contract isn't up yet and if there's one thing I can't do, it's break that."
I nodded, not wanting to remember anything about the past six months. "I saw Brock fight. He's one of the best in the business and the fans would love to see him fight again. Now, I'm not the boss, I'm just the boss' assistant but you asked for my opinion and I gave it to you. Brock Lesnar versus Cain Velasquez for the UFC Heavyweight Championship would be the main event of all main event's and you know it."
Without another word, Dana picked up the phone on his desk and hit the speed dial. "Get Brock Lesnar on the phone for me. Tell him it's urgent." As he waited for the call to be connected, I couldn't help but smile to myself.
After all those months in rehab, grieving for the baby I had lost and for the marriage that had never happened, I realized something. Why give the man that took everything away from me the satisfaction of seeing me break? I thought Cain was the one, I thought I would finally get my happily ever after, and he knew this. When I miscarried, I lost everything. I was devastated by the loss of my baby and then looking at Cain, he seemed relieved. What monster could do that? What monster could leave their fiancé in their time of need? Marriage was supposed to be for better or for worse and Cain proved he wasn't cut out to be a husband that day.
He proved that he wasn't a man.
And now, he would pay.
"Brock? This is Dana. I have a business proposition for you, if you aren't busy." I watched as Dana arranged a meeting here in Vegas. According to Dana's responses, Brock seemed interested, so much so, he would be on the next flight out. I wasn't expecting it to happen so quickly but I'm glad it did. The sooner we cut a deal, the sooner Cain would feel pain.
And that couldn't be soon enough.
