Everything was perfect. The empty azure sky let the bright rays of sunshine reach the ground, lightening the area. Your back was leaned on a tree trunk, and the leaves were doing a great job protecting you from the sun, as well as giving you some fresh air through this hot summer day. The slight breeze gushed through your (h/c) hair, making the grass brush against your legs in the process. If paradise existed on Earth, you were probably in it right now.

A book laying on your thighs, you were profoundly absorbed into its story, hanging on each single word. The spot you were currently in was the only place you felt entirely safe in, as you didn't have to talk to anyone. No dialogues, no excuses, and most important of all, no awkward moments. Everyone had their own fears, and yours was of other people. Simple, but annoying.

Of course being an Avenger wasn't easy, but it was even worse with your condition. When there was a party, you usually left the second it started. During the rare press conferences, you faked being sick or hid in the background. Even during the meals, you usually took the food to your bedroom or some other place to eat in peace. Luckily, most of your teammates seemed to understand.

A small smile peeked on the corner of your lips, as you pertinently knew some people would kill to be in your place right now. The Avengers had a reputation that preceded them, and even if it wasn't always easy, you couldn't be more honored to be part of the team yourself.

Your gaze once again set itself on the book in front of you, pushing yourself back into the story. You were so deeply concentrated that you didn't hear the grass cracking next to you.

"Beautiful day isn't it?"

You jumped, and your reflexes kicked in as you got your gun out within the time of a blink, pointing it at the person next to you. Only to recognize Pietro.

Pietro Maximoff. The guy that was so stubborn in getting you to open up that he kept talking to you all the time. The only one in the base that still believed in the chances. The one that constantly made your head turn and your heart beat ten times faster.

"Easy there sweetheart." he said, with his accent that would make every girl go crazy. "Lower that thing, it makes me uneasy."

Puzzled, you put away your weapon back into its case before giving the man next to you a troubled look.

"What are you doing here?" you asked, your hand moving your book on the ground.
"Enjoying the weather I guess." he replied, his gaze locked on the sky. "It's been a while I haven't seen a sky clear like this."

He turned his head to you with a wide smile on his lips.

"And you?"
"Pretty much the same." you whispered, nervously playing with a strand of hair.

Pietro chuckled lightly, his eyes still hooked in your direction.

"I must say, every time I'm looking for you, I never seem to find where you are." he murmured thoughtfully. "Is this the place you're always in?"

You were reluctant to agree. Did you really want him to snoop around the place every time you wish for some peace? It was your hiding lore, your escape place, but at the same time, could you ever say no to that handsome face of his?

"Yes." you answered. "It's kind of like my secret spot."
"I see."

Silence awkwardly took over the conversation, and you couldn't help but feel nervous. You were outside, alone with a guy that made you feel dizzy each time your thoughts were driven to him, and your cheeks were red as tomatoes . Who wouldn't be nervous?

Of course, you were way to shy to be the one saying the first word. You just stood there, waiting for him to talk, but kept waiting as he was peacefully laying on the grass right next to you, silently watching the cloudless sky. For a fast guy like him, it was pretty rare to see him relax, taking it slow. A smile crept onto your lips, unknowingly catching Pietro's attention.

"You always seem so lost." he whispered, making you jump once more. "I'm so curious about what happens in that brain of yours."

Unintentionally, you let out a nervous giggle before getting lost into the silence again.

"Sometimes, I don't even know what's happening in my own head." you finally blurted out seconds later, a sigh audible in your voice. "I'm alone so often that I think I'm going crazy."

You only realized what you said once finished talking. "Have I really commented that out loud?" you thought, mentally slapping yourself for being so foolish. "Now he's going to think I'm crazy too."

But you were more than surprised by his reaction: he brought you closer to him, putting his arm around your shoulders with a genuine smile, and looked at you with the more sincere expression you had even seen on his face.

"Just because you don't like to talk doesn't mean you're alone." he declared calmly. "Me, and all the others, are your friends, and we'll never give up on you."
"Thanks, Pietro."

You smiled to him, feeling warmer thanks to his speech. You weren't used to people reassuring and caring about you, but you had to say it sure meant a lot.

Your gaze went back on Pietro, who had his eyelids firmly closed as if in pain.

"Hey, what's up?" you asked worryingly. "What's on your mind?"

He opened his eyes and exhaled loudly, before looking at you dead serious.

"Screw it..." he mumbled, almost inaudibly.
"What—"

You were immediately cut by a pair of lips pressing yours, making you jump as a shock of surprise went through your body. But fast enough, you melted into the kiss, feeling sparkles of joy and hapiness all over. Everything instantly felt brighter and colorful, but it's with disappointment that the two of you had to lean back for air a couple of seconds later.

You felt your cheeks burning up and your head dizzy, but a bright smile took over on your lips.

"Bet you didn't see that one coming." he commented, a smirk stamped on his face.
"I must admit I did not." you replied calmly, letting out a giggle in the process.

With a chuckle, Pietro laid his arms around your waist and pulled you closer, making you even more nervous. But deeply, you felt safe. Calm, relaxed. Even the stress that took over your brain each time you were with another human being seemed to have left for a feeling of peace, of quiescence. "Is this how love feels like?" you thought to yourself.

"Does that mean... You've got feelings for me?" you timidly asked, a hand playing with your hair.
"Yup." he answered, grinning. "Do you?"

You felt so happy that you weren't even able to give out your answer verbally, and just nodded positively with a smile. Pietro laughed at your reaction before dropping a small kiss on your forehead, as you buried yourself into his arms.

You were wrong. THIS is what paradise looked like.
