Happiness and Safety:

(Luke's p.o.v)

We sat in the cafeteria the next day and something was very off. It was with Audrey. She was oddly quiet and wouldn't eat her food. She was also very quiet on our walk to school. I cracked jokes at here and she didn't burst out laughing and call me an idiot like she usually did. I nudges her with my elbow but she stayed looking at her food and moving it around on her tray as if she was in deep concentration.

I sigh and take her hand. I pull her out of the cafeteria and down the hallway where no one was standing. She looked questioningly at me. I took her face in my hands, "Audrey what is going on? And please don't lie to me because I know you so much to know there is something wrong! You have been quiet all day and you won't eat, Please tell me what's going on so I can help." She let her eyes drop to the ground.

She played with the bracelets stacked on her wrist, "I just have an exam coming up and I'm scared for it. I haven't been about to sleep and it's hard to study when I'm worrying so much." I take a deep breath and rub my face with my hands. "Come over after school okay? I'll help you out." Audrey's head snaps up and she shakes her head over and over again, "I-I can't. I'm sorry I need to go." She rushed past me and into the girls bathroom.

I knew it wasn't about exams, we don't have those for another month, And she is not one to study a month before a test, but a week in advance. That's all she needs because she already knows all the material. I want to help her so much but I know I couldn't if she wouldn't tell me. I go back to the cafeteria and sat in silence, pushing my food around like Audrey was just doing.

Kendall nudged me from across the table, I look up at her, "Where did Audrey go?" She asks, "uh, Bathroom." She nodded and got back to the conversation with Calum and Michael. After lunch we went to class, I tossed Audrey's food in the trash for her and brought the things she left to her locker. All day I thought about what could be wrong.

"Audrey!" I call to her down the hall, I spotted her just leaving the school with her head down. "Audrey!" I called to her again but she kept walking. She left out the school doors where it was pouring but she kept walking. "What the hell Audrey?" I ask as I turn her around when I caught up to her.

We were farther away from school so the students voices were pretty quiet and all we could hear was the rain that was coming down really hard. I held Audrey's arms so she couldn't move. She was wearing a big blue jacket with grey sleeves and a grey hood on her head. The little mark LA on the left side made me notice it was mine. She loves taking my clothes, But I don't mine because she looks adorable in them.

"Audrey talk to me." I simply say and she shakes her head. "Luke I-I just can't. I need to go." She turned around and rushed home. I put my and out to catch her again but she was already too far out of reach. I stumble back home in the pouring rain.

The next few weeks was all the same. Some days Audrey wouldn't show up, and when she did show up to school she wouldn't go to lunch. Michael, Kendall and Calum kept asking me what was going on but I never had an answer. I stood up from the lunch table and threw all my food away. I have no apatite anymore. I walked to my locker and opened it up. I hear someone rush past me and look up when I saw Audrey balling her eyes out and running into the girls bathroom.

I need to talk to her now. It crushes me seeing her like this.  So after school I trailed behind her, When we were reaching around my house I ran to her and grabbed her hand. She jumped and pulled away. That's when I finally got to see her face after two weeks of not being able to. I was very shocked when I saw the bruise on her cheek, She had my hoodie on again with the hood up over her head so when she looked down I couldn't see her eyes.
