"I will not let you take my daughter from me under any circumstances!" I jump hearing my father yell as I walk past his office. I stop briefly to listen to what he's saying. I hear the phone slam down on the receiver.
"What did he want this time?" My father's beta, Earl, asks.
"Brooke. He wants Brooke." I feel my face pale. I knew they were talking about Alpha Martin.
"He threatened to start a war with us if we don't give her to him," my father says, snapping me out of my thoughts.
"But why does he want her?"
"He wants to mate with her." I feel my breathing become ragged. "He's given us two days."
Alpha Martin's pack, New Moon, hates our pack, Lunar Stone. We don't exactly know why, but we think it might be because his father's mate rejected him because she was falling for a member of our pack.
"I'm not letting that happen," Earl states. "She's your daughter, family to me, and I know the pack will defend her."
"I know they will. They're very loyal. But she can't find out. She'll go to him to protect the pack."
"I will do everything in my power to make sure she doesn't know," Earl promises.
"You have to be discreet about it. She's very smart and you know she will pick up on it."
"I can do it Alpha."
I almost feel bad for Earl. He's promising my father something I know I'm going to ruin for him. I already know what I'm going to do.
My father's been right the whole time. If Alpha Martin is threatening to start a war with my pack, I have to protect them. This pack has given me everything, and I can't let them die for me.
I slowly creep down the hall so my father doesn't hear me. Once I finally reach the stair case, I turn around and walk normally back to my father's office. When I reach his door, I knock on it.
"Hey Dad, are you still in there?" I call like I didn't hear anything.
"Give me a minute Little River. I'll be out in a minute," he responds. If I didn't know about it, I wouldn't know he was upset. I roll my eyes and press down on the handle. I push the door open and walk over to his desk. I go behind him and wrap my arms around him and kiss his cheek.
"It's getting late. I'm going to bed. Good night. I love you," I say.
"I love you too kiddo." He kisses my cheek back and I take my arms back from around him.
"Good night!" I call as I head out the door.
"Good night!" I walk out of the door and begin to head towards my room. I feel my chest begin to twist and tighten.
I know I probably won't see my father again. Alpha Martin isn't fond of us, so I'm assuming he wants to mate me to make me feel the pain of being forcefully mated with. It's incredibly painful for the wolf who is doing it unwillingly, the one who doesn't want it.
I know I'll be put through Hell, but I would die to keep the pack safe.
I reach my room and I pick my phone up off my dresser. I open the internet and go to the search engine. I type in "Martin Gomez phone number" and hit "search". Surprisingly, it comes up instantly.
I look at the number and my thumb hovers over the "call" button. What I'm about to do sinks in. I don't want to, but I want to protect the pack.
Before I can do something stupid, I slam my thumb onto the call button.
I slowly lift the phone to my ear, hands shaking.
I hear the ringing of the phone, telling me my call has gone through. I wait what feels like an eternity, each moment passing seeming longer than it should be.
The phone suddenly stops ringing and what must've been mere seconds passed, but in the moment it felt like a millennium.
"Hello?" Comes a gruff voice on the other end of the line. I freeze, not exactly sure what to say.
"Meet me in the unclaimed territory north of our borders in an hour," I say quickly. I can almost imagine the smirk on his face as he hears my words.
"With pleasure."
