Vanitas placed his blue mug half filled with the bitterest coffee on the glass table of his family's apartment. He sat on the pinstriped cushioned dining chairs and looked out at the city. He adored the little purple and black tint of the city as well the yellow lights resembling light bugs at a camp fire.

He sighed, tasting the heat of his caffeinated beverage. Vaniats rarely drank coffee but tonight simply felt appropriate to do so. He had finally been able to get Sora to sleep, they were almost the same age but he was still the little kid he was. Remembering that, is what set him apart from his older brother or mother. After Sora came out, they saw him as something different, not the happy-go-lucky gift but a different beast.

He melodically thumped his fingers on the surface, basking in the home's calming silence and letting the drink do it's magic. He knew this stasis wouldn't last.

"Vanitas!" He turned and saw his mother. On her arm a man with a lustful gaze targeted on her breasts, "I thought you were in bed! Well as you can see I have a guest so I suggest you just head on over and rest; oh I'm sure you've had a rough day!"

"Aren't you going to introduce me, mom?" Vanitas snidely asked.

"Mom? You told me you were single!" The so-called gentleman caller exclaimed.

"I am honey, I am! I'm divorced!" his mother pleaded; grasping on his arm like a dog.

"OH by the way, dad called. He said he was coming home late, you know all the work he does just to keep food on the table!" Vanitas said, a bit of drama in his voice. He loved lying to his mother's dates, it always brought him a sick satisfaction but he could never get why.

"I'm not sticking around here with a married woman, get your hands off me!" He pried her long fingers off his sports jacket and ran off without another word.

She flinched when he slammed the door shut and suddenly turned to the black haired delinquent she called a son, "You got balls if you think you can pull something like that and get away with it. Ungrateful brat!"

Vanitas glared at the woman, "Aren't you supposed to be doing your night shift, not acting like a loose floozy at bars?"

She raised her hand and hit him, "You take that back!"

"No! I'm sick and tired of you always coming home pretending you did a lot of hard work at the office and then come home and abuse me and Sora!"

She hit him again harder, "GO TO BED!"

"Make me you heartless piece of trash!"  Vanitas exclaimed, he heard a door open.

"What's going on?" Leon asked, rushing behind his mother.

The woman pointed to the glowing yellow eyes with a thin finger, "Get your brother to bed. I've had a long day Leon and just want to get some sleep. Would you do that dear?"

Leon nodded and grasped Vanitas in a crushing bear hug and began walking to his hostage's room. "You know what Leon, you're such a tool. We would be stronger together but you had to side with a woman who treats Sora like dirt and considers the two of us only a bit better!"

His older brother set him down in Sora's room instead then slammed the door shut. He could hear the locks running on the other side and he sat down on his younger brother's blue bed. Vanitas knew Leon cared about the two of them, he just didn't have the courage to stand up for it.

He brushed a stray spike from Sora's troubled face with his hand, "I promise it'll get better. For the both of us."
