So when Caylen and I were 16, she took her brother on a car ride through the nearby mountains. It was raining that day.

I remember Caylen called me and was complaining about how her mom was on her case about driving up there.

"She's so overprotective of me babe. I wish she'd wake up and realize I'm not 5 anymore. I'm old enough to take care of things and be careful".

Her brother, Shane, was only 7 years old. He was so excited to have a day just him and his sister. All was going absolutely great until Caylen blindly drove over a slippery spot in the road.

Caylen lost control of the black sedan. The car uncontrollably skid through the road. It ejected Caylen out of the car but not Shane. The sedan continued to skid, turn every which way then rolled off the side of the mountain. The car never stopped rolling until it landed in the canyon on its roof. Caylen blacked out as soon as she hit the floor from being ejected from the car.

Later that night a good samaritan saw the debris and decided to investigate. He noticed the car at the bottom of the canyon and immediately called 911. By the time they paramedics got there, Caylen had already lost a lot of blood. They rushed both her and Shane, after they got him out of the car, to the nearest hospital.

Caylen was in a coma for 9 days. Shane never woke up. He couldn't breathe on his own so his mom, Stacey, and dad, Robert, decided to end his suffering.

The doctors realized as soon as Caylen came out of a coma that something was off.
