Chapter 4: First day of school

I woke up on a bright and lovely morning for the first day of school, and I can't even explain how nervous yet excited I am for the new experience in a different school.
I went to prepare breakfast and some snacks and told hunter to come down to have breakfast with me, it's like a school morning routine that we usually have breakfast together.
"So how are you feeling for the first day of school?" Hunter said
"A little bit of everything but I'm mostly nervous" I replied
"Yeah I feel you" said Hunter looking out the window
"Are you okay?" I asked
"yeah I'm okay, just scared. O-oh here comes the bus let's go Meredith, we don't want to be late"
"I'll be there in a second, bye mom and dad, love you" I retorted quickly wearing my black converse.
"We love you too" they answered.
We finally reached , the school was quite large and really modern, it was so big that I was afraid I would really get lost in there. We had to get our timetable and the information that we needed. Hunter and I were in the same corridor so that makes me happy, at least we can help each other out whenever something happens.
Our corridor supervisor showed me the way to my classroom and as I walked in, I saw that all of my classmates were whispering and laughing silently. I realized that all the other girls were wearing cute clothes and a lot of makeup whereas I wore a casual tee and converse and absolutely nothing but Chapstick on my lips, other girls had their hair curled or in a type of hairstyle or even had it dyed, I just tied my hair into a ponytail, but I ignored them laughing at me anyways. Silence shook the room as soon as the teacher entered.
"Hello class, my name is mrs Amy, and I'll be your maths teacher," she said.
"Are we going to do some schoolwork today on the first day of school?" Said one of my classmates
"We are just going to solve easy problems, but before all that, I have some rules that you have to be following in my class, there will be absolutely no bullying in my class, no talking without permission, and no phones. Also do not be scared to answer, even if you are unsure, trying is better than doing nothing. Open to page 1 on your geometry books please, I'll explain an example and then you solve the rest of the problems."
Our math teacher taught us how to solve many things, and gave us many tips that I didn't actually know in my previous school. She looks like she's a very good teacher.
"So can anyone give us the work out and answer to this question, umm you at the back, sorry what's your name?"
"Oh, I'm Meredith Hayes, and sure. So the hypotenuse is equal to the leg radical 2, the answer is 5 radical 2" I replied shyly
"That is correct! You must be a genius at math. Who got the answer correct?"
As soon as she asked, not one student raised his hand, "well then good job Meredith" she said smiling at me, while everyone else was looking at me as if I was showing off. "Thank you" I replied smiling back.
The bell rang and the atmosphere of the classroom was intense. I was walking to my locker to put my books in and I heard a girl saying, "oh my god! Is she like even serious, plain tees and leggings for an expensive and modern school like this, where's the etiquette in her. And math hahaha, who even likes math." I stood there trying to contain myself and trying not to care about what they thought about me and just walked to my brothers classroom so that we could walk together, since nobody really asked me to.
"Hey Meredith! Have you got yourself some friends yet?", Hunter  exclaimed.
"Hi, uhh no not really, how about you?"
"Well yeah but just a second," he said walking towards his friends  "guys I'll go with my sister for now, you go ahead, I'll hopefully see you next class."
"Heyyy, what was that for? You got yourself friends and then you come to me!" I said surprised
"I know something's wrong and I wont leave you until you tell me, come on now, tell me what happened".
"Nothing" I replied.
" I know you, what is wrong Meredith?".
And so I told him all about what happened and stayed silent.
"Don't mind those people, they just bring other people down because they are somehow insecure or just feel better by hurting other people, don't worry".
"Thanks" I said looking at the ground
"Everything will be okay, give it time, it's only the first day".
"You're right, it will eventually get better".
A girl from the 10th grade came up to me and said "hey, i see that you're new here, how would you like if we could maybe be friends?"
"She actually would love to, I'll go to my friends is that okay mere?" Hunter said smiling.
"Yeah go ahead" I smiled back.
Hunter went back to his friends, then the girl sat beside me.
"Hey, I'm Emily, nice to meet you!" .
"Hi, and I'm Meredith, you can call me mere, nice to meet you too!"
"Are you new here?"
"Yeah" I replied
"How is the first day of school going for you?"
"It's fine I suppose".
"I've been in the same class before , actually I'm your age, I know those girls are very mean and selfish, the reason I am in 10th grade now was because I studied a lot and my average got to 99 so the school decided to take me a grade higher, and I know these girls are mean" she said.
"Oh that's excellent! And yeah they were the ones that changed my mood, they're being really mean".
"Yeah but listen, I barely have any breaks since I'm going for extra subjects so I won't be able to really see you that much, but we should hang out sometime".
"I wish you luck, and yeah we should." I replied .
It's been a long day in school and it has finally been time to go home, my parents came in to take us from school and asked us about our day, hunter had a great first day of school,  I mean, I guess it was a decent first day of school.
This school was very different, the breaks, schedules, students, and teachers. The breaks were quite long, people studying extra subjects had a tight schedule, students were just not too good, and the teachers were really kind.   Although the girls in my class were not very nice, I'm glad to have met Emily.
