Two days had passed since my confession, and that's all it took.
Two days had passed, and my bags were packed, my flight was booked.
I was going back.
I was returning, though. I'd always come back to Australia, it just seemed I wasn't ready for this kind of responsibility, the whole "living alone" thing wasn't for me. And it was okay that it wasn't for me. Growing up is all about making mistakes, fucking up, and always knowing where your home is. My home isn't in the UK, that's just where my family is.
I was leaving my home.
Australia, with all of it's weird sunny weather, confusing boys, non-confusing boys, and lush beaches, is, and will always be, my home. There was just this essence about being here, just the way the sun always made things look brighter than they were.
In the two days I'd been planning everything, Calum had also been dragging me around everywhere, just trying to convince me to come back, if not stay. He nearly had me convinced, right up until we'd ran into Luke.
He'd smiled sadly at me, his eyes only glancing at mine and Calum's interlocked fingers for a second, before continuing to walk away. I watched him go, sighing in defeat as he walked right into the arms of Emma.
Later on that day, he'd texted me, apologising for not telling me about them being back together. Despite trying my hardest to not reply, I was one of those weird people who had to reply, and so I typed back to him, trying to keep it short and sweet.
To: Luke.
I hope you two are happy, and I hope she breaks your heart.
He didn't reply.
As for Ashton and Michael, we'd met up with them just yesterday and we said our goodbyes then, both of them completely understanding, although Michael's eyes still held a tint of need in them.
And then there's Calum. Calum hadn't left my side since I told him that I wanted to go back, claiming that he'd miss his best friend too much.
Truth be told, he's impacted me in so many ways, just by sticking around me. He's proven that I can actually trust people, and that I should look for the good within the bad more often, instead of dwelling on everything that's gone wrong.
Currently, we were at the airport, waiting for my flight to be called. Calum had insisted on seeing me off, although I'd tried to get him to stay away. I'd probably cry now, a lot.
"What are you listening to?" He asked, gesturing at my earphones. I passed one to him as an offering for him to listen in too, and he put it in place, smiling sadly at my choice.
"Stand there and look into my eyes
And tell me that all we had were lies
Show me that to you don't care
And I'll stay here if you prefer
Yes I'll leave you without a word
Without a word."
He interlocked his fingers around mine, a sad smile slipping onto his lips as he squeezed my hand.
"And you can tell the world
That you're tired
But your excuses, they won't work
'Cause I'll know that you're lying
Every time that I see your face
I notice all the suffering
Just turn to my embrace
I won't let you come to nothing."
I rested my head on his shoulder, turning my body towards him and putting my legs across his lap, my hand gripping the front of his tee-shirt as I held in my tears.
"It's okay, Tia, you can cry," Calum mumbled, pressing his lips to the top of my head briefly.
I shook my head, knowing I had to keep it all in, and keep a composure. I was coming back home, as soon as I could, why do I feel like crying so badly?
Calum's hands held onto my chin softly as he lifted my face to his. Our eyes locked instantly, his having tears to match mine.
"Tia, I-" A loud voice cut Calum off, coming from the speakers overhead, telling us that my flight was being called.
"Come on, babe, let's get you onto your flight," he cooed, standing and taking my carry on bag under his shoulder, as I interlocked our fingers again.
We reached the doors all too soon, Calum instantly pulling me into a tight embrace.
"Promise me that you'll come home soon," he whispered into my shoulder and I nodded, pulling away from him.
I knew this was it. This was goodbye. And because it was goodbye, I did something I'd been yearning to do for the past week.
I stretched up onto my tiptoes, pressing my lips to his for a second, then pulling away and shooting him a smile.
"I promise."
