Avery's P.O.V

New Day. New Year. Same School. Same People.

My alarm clock wakes me up at 6:00 AM sharp, with an ear piericing screech kind of sound. I'm unaware of what to even call it. Yes, my alarm clock is broken, which is why it sounds like it does. It's September 1st 2013, the first day of school. I am now in grade 11. Yay.

I literally roll myself out of bed and almost land of my laptop, laying on the carpet floor. I groan loudly, not wanting to pick myself up. But I find a little stregnth inside me, and use my arms to pull myself up to sitting position. My room is still pitch black. Sunlight doesn't rise until 7:00, or earlier. I finally get up, and dreadfully walk into the bathroom for a shower.

After a fairly hot shower, I wobble back into my room and get dressed. Black jeans, and a baby blue hoodie. I have no one too impress anyways. Then, I straighten my long chocolate brown hair, it falls over my boobs, which was my goal since grade 9. I cover my fair skin in some light concealor and powder, apply sort of a heavy dose of mascara to my eyelashes, just to make my eyes pop out.

I haveily sigh. Not ready for the year to come. Last year was dreadful enough...

Three people I knew dearly, died.

One was my close friend, Sarah. She was athletic, smart and hilarious. Her blonde hair halfway to her spine. I smile... remembering the good times we had. All the sleepovers, long talks, and gossip. She was perfect in everyway possible and a ton of boys liked her.

Jake. My ex boyfriend. We dated for about 5 months, but then broke up. It took us another 2 months become friends... then he died. He was an amazing person, any girl would be lucky to have him. The toned body, baskeball player, kind of guy, who would turn that down?

Lilly. The girl who knew every last detail about me. However we were not friends, we were kind of like eachothers listeners and councillors. We only hung out when we needed someone to talk too, or somone to just listen. She was beautiful and abused by her father, whom by the way didn't show up to her funeral. But I'm still the only person who knew about the abuse.

Three innocent people, murdered, drowned, and burned alive. It didn't happen all at once. The end of March, Sarah went missing. A week later, her body found stabbed in a thousand places. And the murderer was never found. The middle of April, Jake's body was found in the town lake, about three minutes walking distance from the school, still, no murderer discovered. No one has visited there since. The end of April, Lilly was in the school library. The librairan wasn't in the room when the flames first hit the door. By the time the firefighters got there, Lily was already dead. Those flames spread much quicker because of all the paper that was in the room the police said. And what caused the fire.. is still unknown.

I shake my head, trying to erase the awful memoriesof each body covered and being carried into an ambulance.

"Avery, sweetie." My mom brings me back to reality.

"Yes?" I turn around.

"It's almost 7:10, come eat breakfast." She flashed me a smile.

I nodded and followered her downstairs. It's just me, my mom and my twelve year old adopted sister. No father. He left one day after I was born. Gone. Gone without a trace.

My mom first adopted Lexii when she was five. Her skins like a dark caramel brown and her eyes, deep, dark chocolate. Even after seven years of having her, we still don't know exactly where she's from, our estimate is Brazil. She was abandoned aroud the age of two. She travelled alone in the streets of Brazil for five days, until a not-so-generous lady took her home. The lady was planning to fly to Canada, and decided to drop Lexii off at an orphanage.
