~Chapter 12~

Isabelle

For the remainder of the day, I could feel eyes on the back of my neck. I knew that it was Greg’s but I honestly could not be bothered to talk to him. The words that he had shouted in anger towards me cut me too deep this time. As much as I hated to say it, it was the truth but never in a million years would I give him the satisfaction of being right.

Ignoring a person for an entire day is harder than it appears, especially when they have no choice but to follow you around. I lost count of how many times I reminded myself to not snap at him and to just give him the silent treatment.

Before I knew it, it was time to go home or should I say his home.

As soon as the bell went for the last lesson, which was Physics, I brushed past him and slumped into his car before he could utter a single word to me. To make it clear to him that my anger had not subsided, I kept looking out of the window.

He followed suit and sat down in the driver’s seat, a grim look plastered onto his face.

“Belle,” he sighed, looking straight at the road ahead. “Belle, will you talk to me?” he continued, refusing to make any form of eye contact with me.

I had the urge to roll my eyes but I resisted. If this was what he called an apology, he was rubbish at it. Instead of replying, I looked out of the passenger window and focused on the trees that we were passing. I started counting them in my head to forget about the awkward silence which suffocated the car.

As I counted the twentieth tree, he mumbled to himself “What’s it going to take to get you to listen to me?”

I bit my tongue to stop myself from answering his question. There was no point listening anymore. There comes a point in a person’s life, where you can only take so much until there is nothing more left to say.

The rest of the journey was, in my opinion, an endless bore. Nothing more to it.

This is why when he parked the car in front of his house I rushed out, but not forgetting to slam the door. I guess I was my eagerness to get out of his sight was finally in play.

The front door was open which meant that everyone was home. I walked inside and closed it before Greg could. You may think I’m acting childish right now but I honestly didn’t care at this very point.

Joshua heard me coming in, I could already picture his smile placed on his face. “Belle,” he shouted from the living room and then I heard feet rushing to greet me hello.

Honestly, it was hard ignoring him but I did it. I looked down at the ground and brushed past him into my room.

As I reached the top step of the stairs, I heard him ask Greg, “What did I do wrong? I only wanted to ask her to colour with me,”

I could only imagine the frown on his face right now but I stopped myself from turning around and hugging him. It would only show that I was fine and I honestly wasn’t anywhere near that.

Before turning towards the direction of my bedroom I heard Greg sigh heavily and mutter to Joshua, “Just ignore her. She’s tired.”

The sadness in his voice when he replied to Joshua was evident but I ignored it. I acted like I hadn’t recognised it and instead walked straight into my bedroom, slamming the door shut to avoid hearing any other conversations through the walls.
