The school looked bigger on the inside than the outside. The school colors (blue and black) were repetitive throughout the interior. Blue doors and cieling tiles, black lockers and checkered floors. The atmosphere of the school was odd, as if something bad was about to happen. I suppressed the feeling as if it was nothing.
Liam and I were immediatly drawn to the main office. They could certainly help us find Alfie Tailer. How hard would it be to stroll in and give a simple name? The lady at the half moon desk looked menacing and not at all welcoming.
Liam stood there waiting for a "hello". After relizing he would have to break the ice he said something. "We're looking for a man named Alfie Tailer."
The lady didn't look up from her papers to answer. "Second floor room 214." I'm surprised she gave us the exact room without hesitation or questioning. We thanked the lady and walked up the carpeted stairs to the second floor.
Room 211, room 212, room 213. Yes! Room 214! Liam placed his hand on the doorknob. I didn't know what to expect when he opened it. We already knew what this man would look like, but not how he would talk or what he would say.
We quitly entered the room with my book still clutched to inside of my unzipped jacket. There was a class going on. The man I instantly reconized put his finger up in the air and continued playing a slideshow on the front dry-erase board. "I'll be done in a minute."
Alfie looked a bit younger than his picture, but any other specific feature was just the same. His black curly hair had certain straight strains feathered back, his shining emrald eyes peaked over his rectangular glasses, and his hieght seemed a bit less than average. Maybe that's why he surroundes himself with middle schoolers, Alfie seems taller.
A blarring ring startled me. However, it aroused the class of students as they ran from their chairs without letting their teacher finish his sentence. "The ancient Egyptians were rath-. Don't forget to turn in your... ugh forget it!" Mr. Tailer turned his attention to me and Liam. "Kids: they never listen."
A gave him a soft smile. "If I'm not mistaken, you're Alfie Tailer?"
The man had a smile of pride on his face. "Why yes, yes I am."
"Well I read your book," I removed Future from my jacket lining then continued talking. "and I have a few... concerns."
Alfie's smile faded. "Before you do may I ask your names." He took a step closer than sat down in his rolling velvet chair.
I was hesitant but Liam gave his name first. "Liam Pierce." Alfie's expression showed no change. "But my real name is George... George Pierce." Alfie's eyes widened with shock.
"Oh," Was all he could say before biting his lips. "And your name young lady." Alfie swivled his chair to face me better.
"Ellia Bridget Lane." I decided to give him more words of confusion. "My birthday is January 19th-"
"1991?" He interupted me. "Yes very funny. Cosplay? Is it?"
Liam suddenly turned angry. "No those are our real names that you stole! Here's my drivers license." Liam took a second to reach into his pocket for his wallet.
"Oh my god!" Alfie held the license that read his characters names in his hands. "You two really are... uh... I don't know what to say."
I took the I.D from Alfie's hands and gave it back to Liam. "Why don't you start by explaining!"
The man gave me a look as if I was a puppy he just hit with his car. "Ellia, I'm afraid you wouldn't quite understand."
Liam's face was red hot. "Who the hell do you think you are!? The freaking god of omnisciense!? Did you go to MIT and Columbia University like Ellia did!? No, you wrote this book that is stealing our lifes!" I've never heard Liam yell like that.
Alfie stood, took a deep breath, and laid his hand on Liam's shoulder. "I am so sorry, I did not mean to upset you. I've always been into writing, but I never knew what to write." The man looked as if he was about to cry. "I just write what I see to get my thoughts out."
I was now at a state of utter confusion. "What you see? So you have been spying on us!"
"No, no, no! Sit down for a bit." Liam and I simultaneously crossed our arms in protest of Alfie's offer. He sighed and took a deep breath noticing our relunctancy. "I can explain in great detail... just not here. Come by my house: 71 Cordan drive."
"When should we be there?" Liam questioned.
"Tomorrow."
This story would not be the same (and also have a lot of gramatic errors) without the help of my friend: Aly
