Gian POV
We had been in the bunker for about 30 minutes. I was about to go outside the bunker and check if it was safe, when there was shuffling and bumping above us. Someone was trying to open the hatch from the outside and we all raised our weapons, aiming them at the hatch. The hatch was forced open and we remained silent, keeping our eyes glued to the dark space where the hatch was supposed to be.
“Don't shoot! It's me, Piero,” he called from the darkness above.
We all sighed in relief and lowered our weapons as he jumped down, not even bothering to use the ladder. His mom ran over to him and hugged him tightly.
"Mio figlio! Io sono così felice che stai bene. Dove siete stati?! Ero preoccupato male!"
“I was downtown with Dez.” He looked around the bunker. “Mom, where's Maria?”
Eleonora began to sob. “They too her. Those evil monsters-”
“Who? Who did this?” he cried out.
“The vampires. Who else?”
“Vico?! I knew he would come back! Was he there?!”
“No, I don't think so, we would have seen him.”
“What are you guys doing in a hole?! I didn't know you had a secret hideout!” Dez hollered, peering down into the bunker. “I'm coming down to check it out. Don't shoot me!”
I rolled my eyes. Why would we shoot her? Well, she can get really annoying. I do consider putting duct tape on her mouth sometimes, but I'd never shoot her. Piero would kill me, and make it as painful as possible. I shuddered at the thought and Malia frowned at me.
“Are you cold? We're you bit? Are you turning?!” she whispered to me.
“No, I'm fine.”
“They why are you shivering?”
“I'm not shi-, uh, whatever.”
Dez was taking forever to climb down the ladder because of her dress and high heels. It was driving me crazy. I don't know why I'm so irritated. Maybe it's because of her, that woman. I don't even know who she is, but I can't stop thinking about her. Her emerald eyes, fair skin. She's so much more beautiful than Martina ever was. I'm glad we broke up. It just wasn't going to work out, with her being human. She just couldn't accept what I was. Apparently I'm a monster, someone she could never trust. She's the real monster, not being able to see past my physical features.
Dez adjusted her dress and scoped out the room. “Uh, where's my mom?”
She looked at Jay, who was standing near her, but he just shrugged.
“Did they take my mom?!” She started to panick.
“Destiny calm down. She probably got out with some of the other guys,” Ignazio reassured her.
“There's a good chance that she's dead. It's not like anyone is going to miss her anyway,” I stated coldly. (@ilvolofan, your Gianluca is rubbing off on me 😂)
She gave me a death glare and her hands tightened into fists at her sides. “You better watch it Gianluca. That's my mom you're talking about,” she spat with venom.
I pressed on, taunting her. “She doesn't even care about you. If the vamps killed her, they were doing you a favor, sparing you the effort. I mean, you already killed your dad-”
She lunged at me and knocked me onto the floor. Piero quickly went to pull her off and held her arms back, preventing her from punching me. Clover was mortified with Dez’s outburst and Malia was trying to hide her smile. She was enjoying this too much.
“Don't you ever say that again you self-absorbed piece of crap! I can't believe it took me this long to see how you really are.”
Destiny swatted Piero's arms away and glared at me with fire in her eyes. “You guys can stay here in this hell hole, but I'm going back to the house.”
She went toward the ladder and we watched her struggling to go up. I was expecting someone to help her, but no one did, and there was Malia, trying to cover her laughter.
“She's so pathetic.” I heard her through our mind link and everyone frowned at her.
“What? It's true…”
“When I got back, the house was already empty, so I think it's safe to go back,” Piero announced.
Eager to leave this small space, I was the first one to get out, after Dez. Our trek through the forest and back to the house was silent except for the rustling of the trees and the twigs crunching beneath our feet.  The back door was left open, barely hanging on one of its hinges. The house was totally trashed and it was hard to walk through the hall without tripping. We followed Piero into the family room. Ignazio tripped over a broken chair and I grabbed his arm before he fell.
“Watch where you're going. You might accidently spear yourself like you did to that vampire.”
He groaned. “Why would you remind me of that? I still feel bad about it.”
“Why?”
“Because I have a heart and feelings.”
“What's that supposed to mean? You don't think I'm capable of feeling?”
“Not after that stuff you told Dez. She took it really hard.”
“That was nothing-”
“You should still apologize. It was really mean.”
In front of the room where our large tv used to be, Piero stood.
“It's late, so we should get some rest. Tomorrow, we need to get this place cleaned up and we have to track down Mariagrazia. I'll send some guys out to track her scent, follow their tracks, and just do about anything to find her.”
Jay's phone rang and he stepped out into the hall and of course I was eavesdropping.
“Yeah, we're back at the house. It's majorly demolished. The vampires are gone, so it would be safe for you to stop by. By any chance, are Maria and Jane, Destiny's mom, with you?” Jay said quietly.
He was silent as the person on the other end of the phone spoke.
“Just Jane? You didn't see Mariagrazia anywhere?”
Another moment of silence from Jay.
“You're almost here? I'll let Piero know.”
I pretended to be listening to Piero as Jay came back into the room.
“The other guys that got separated from us earlier are going to stop by. Jane is with them,” Jay announced.
Dez was majorly relieved and stopped pacing around the room like a mentally ill person. The slamming of car doors was heard, very clear, since there was no longer a front door. Destiny watched the door to the room like a hawk, waiting for he mom. Several guys came in, trying to make their way through the mess and Jane came in last, with crazy hair and tattered clothes. Destiny ran over to her and hugged her tightly. Jane seemed shocked and didn't know how to respond. She awkwardly and loosely hugged Dez back.
“I'm so glad you're ok,” Dez cried into her mom's shoulder.
Jane was still in a state of shock.
“You were? Why? I'm such a terrible mother though-”
“You're still my mom and you're all I have left. You can hate me all you want, but I'll always love you. Don't ever scare me like that again!” Dez pushed Jane away and stormed up the stairs. Somebody's bipolar.
Jane stood there, dazed and confused.
“Well that was interesting,” Reece said, standing near the guys that just got here.
“That's enough Reece,” Piero stated. “The ones that just got here are welcome to stay for the night, but it may not be the best place, unless you like tripping over broken chairs and finding wild animals in your room.”
The guys grimaced.
“Thanks for the offer, but I think we're just going to head back to our house,” one of them said.
“Alright. Get some sleep everyone. We have a big day tomorrow.”
We all went to our rooms, but mine was on the bottom floor, aka the trashed one. There was a huge hole in my door and everything was thrown onto the floor.
“Well that's just great. I love sleeping on the shreds of a mattress.”
