Brie

I sat on a park bench and fiddled through my satchel, trying to find one of my journals. Snow fell steadily from the sky and I wiped off the bench next to me, placing some of my small notebooks on it as I searched for my phone. Madison was supposed to pick me up an hour ago. She’s never late… I wonder what’s keeping her… I heard some rustling next to me and looked over to see some guy holding one of my journals, making me jump to me feet.

“Hey!” I said, my eyes wide as I took it back, “That’s mine!” I clutched the book close to me and the man looked at me like he was about to faint, his bright blue eyes filled with panic as his black hair fell in his face a little.

“I-I’m sorry!” He said, his voice shaking a little, “I-I just saw the Captain America shield and thought it looked cool!” I looked down at my notebook and realized that it did have the Captain America shield, a raised sticker that I had gotten online. This was my notebook with all of my short stories in them… Imagine if he read it.

“Well you shouldn’t be snatching at other peoples things!” I knew I was being hard on him. But he does not get to grab at my things. They’re mine and they’re private.

“I didn’t mean to!” He defended, though he took a step back. I may be short compared to this guy, 5”4 compared to his… what? 6”2? But, I was fairly scary when I was mad, which I only get mad about certain things… My personal items being at the top.

“I’m kind of like a child! I see things and I have to touch them.”

“Well maybe you should learn some boundaries.” I snapped, gathering all of my things and stomping away, deciding to just walk home. It’ll probably be faster anyway.

“Hey! Are you kind of stuck here?” I heard the guy call after me, but I just ignored him. No. No, I’m not. I’ll just walk home, thank you.

“It’s really cold out! I’m on my way back to my flat, you can come over for a minute you need to, you know, to warm up and things!” I stopped walking, looking at the mass amounts of snow that fell from the sky.

“Fine.” I said softly, putting my books in my satchel and shoving my gloved hands into my pockets. I looked down at my sneakers and shifted from foot to foot. He nodded to me with a sweet smile and then started walking next to me, prompting me to continue on with him.

“So what are you doing out in this weather anyways?” I asked, blowing out a cold breath. I might as well play nice with him. He seems like a sweet guy anyway—he just shouldn’t touch my things.

“Oh! Groceries.” He held up a plastic bag that I didn’t realize he was carrying, “My flatmate’s were getting annoyed at the empty fridge and sent me to go get some lunch.

“Flatmate’s?” I was a little unsure now, I mean, I’m not stupid, what if this is all a ploy to get me alone? I mean, you know! I don’t know…

“Yeah, I live with my best friends, Dan and Audrey. Pretty much the laziest people on earth.”

I giggled a little, yeah, I guess he seems friendly enough.

“You have a nice laugh.” He slid in, looking straight ahead, although there was a shy smile stretched on his face.

“Thanks…” I said, looking up at the sky, “You have a nice smile.” …And everything else.

In a few moments we were at the base of a tall apartment building. Madison drives by here when she takes me to university! And home… eventually she takes me home. Not today it seems. We went in the building and up the elevator, going near the top, before getting out.
