24. Been A Son

December 24, 1991

"David stop horsing around and get over here so Jimmy can take a picture," Virginia said as Lisa and I stood beside her infront of the tree. Dave had gone down to the basement for some reason. He came back wearing my dad's santa hat.

"I needed my special hat. Sorry mom," Dave said as he came and stod behind me and his mom and put an arma round each of us.

"Ok you guys smile. Say cheese," Jimmy said.

"Cheese," we all said as we smiled and he took the picture. I blinked a few times after because of the flash. I went and sat beside Kurt on the couch.

"The perfect family picture," Lisa said as she sat down in one of the chairs as Dave sat beside me. I heard the kitchen door open and close.

"Well almost perfect is your brother didn't wear that goofy hat," Virginia said as she pulled the hat off of Dave's head.

"I'm making both families traditions come true. Her dad always wore that hat for the family christmas picture so I went and got it," Dave replied as Krist walked into the living room.

"Hey you amde it," I said as I stood up and hugged him.

"Shelli is pissed but I don't care," He replied as he spotted Sadie talkign to Lisa.

"Ya well just have fun and have a good time. I'll let you open the first present," I said as we walked to the tree.

"Why are we doing this on christmas eve?" Jimmy asked.

"So Court and I can spend christmas with my mom and sister and Krist can go to his parents. We're Britt's family so we do it on christmas eve with ehr then she usualy comes to my mom's with me," Kurt replied as Dave came over and stood with me and Krist at the tree.

"I can hand them out baby," Dave said as Krist and I stared at the presents.

"David go sit down," I said as I looked at him.

"That's right. Use his full first name. He listens when you call him David," Virginia said as she sipped on the alcoholic eggnog. Dave and I both laughed quietly as she took another glass.

"I think my mom has had one too many eggnogs," Dave said as I picked up a gift and ahnded it to Krist. I picked one up for Kurt and Courtney and handed them to Dave and Krist went and sat on the couch.

"She's on vacation. The one on top is for Jimmy and the others are Kurt and Courtney. Go be useful," I said as I picked out one for Virginia, Lisa and Dave. When Dave came back I handed him the ones for his mom and sisters as I bent down to pick up up with my name on it.

"No not that one," Dave as he saw which one I was reaching for. I stood back up and raised an eyebrow at him.

"Why not?" I asked, my interest peeked.

"Save it for tomorrow please baby," Dave said as he came back over to the tree and picked on up beisde it. I took the gift he held out to me, held his out and he took it. I picked up two more and handed them to Sadie and Hunter.

"Ok so before you open up the gifts, I just want to say thank you for all coming tonight and for celebrating with Dave and I tonight. It really means alot to me because you guys right here are my family. Ok open them," I said. We all unwrapped our gifts at the same time and showed them off. I had given Kurt a medical book cause he liked them, Courtney a dress that I knew she would love and Krist got a scarf I finally finished knitting after 5 years. I had given Jimmy a record Dave told me to get for him, Sadie got her bonus check along with a pair of earrings she wanted and Hunter got a copy of Nevermind because he couldn't find one anywhere. Virginia opened a sweater Dave had gotten her and Lisa did as well.

"If this a sweater I swear you are not getting any christmas sex," I whispered as we both unwrapped ur presents seperate from the others.

"Your sweater is at the back of the tree smartass," Dave replied as I opened the box and found a ticket in it.

"What the?" I asked as I pulled the ticket out to read it. "Oh my god!" I screamed and hugged Dave as he was about to open the book I got him of baby names.

"You like it?" he asked once I pushed away from hima nd looked at the ticket again.

"Yes. A thousand times yes. Marky Mark here I come," I said with a huge smile on my face.

"Don't dance..... Earl out when you and Sadie go," Dave replied after he looked into the book for a name.

"We're not naming him Earl," I said with a serious look on my face.

"Wait did I hear Marky Mark?" Sadie asked as she came over.

"We're going to Marky Mark. Wait you're off then," I said as I turned to Dave.

"I'm not going to go see Marky Mark," Dave said and made a face like he was appauled.

"This is almost as good as Tiffany or Rick Springfield tickets,"Sadie said as I kissed Dave.

"Oooo Rick Springfield," I said after I finished kissing Dave.

"How did I get a weirdo for a girlfriend?" He asked as he dropped the book and started tickling me as Krist handed out some more gifts. The ones in the back where for tomorrow. Krist even put the one Dave said to wait until tomorrow in the back.

"Excuse me but you're the one that was all cocky around me and it worked," I replied once he stopped.

"She's not your girlfriend anymore," Kurt said as Jimmy put one of my mix tapes in.

"Ya Dave. She's your fiance," Lisa said as she came over in her new sweater.

"I got myself a keeper," Dave said as he hugged me gently around the waist.

"I got upgraded. Yay!" I said and raised my arms in the ar.

"You two are perfect for each other," Lisa said as she shook her head at us.

"Leave them alone Lisa. They're young and in love. Did you two pick a date for the wedding yet?" Virginia asked as she stood up and stumbled a tiny bit.

"Not yet. I kinda just want to focus on the abby," I replied.

"She's bought magazines and looked through them but she doesn't really want to do it til after the baby," Dave added.

"Well maybe when you aren't touring so much we can do a quick little thing so things are right with the man upstairs," I replied. That made Virginia change her frown to the a smile.

"We can have a small thing here at the house after," Dave added.

"You just better make sure I'm there when you do this. Don't exclude me," Virginia said as waved her finger at us.

"I won't mom. You mean the world to me and you're gonna be there when I get married. Same with Lisa," Dave replied.

"Hey so did you two find out what the bump is yet?" Hunter asked as Sadie sat on his lap.

"I think it's a girl," Courtney said.

"We're gonna have a boy," Dave and I said together. We looked at each other and Jinx at the same time too.

We opened gifts from Kurt and Courtney before they left to go with Krist back to his place to see Shelli for a bit. Sadie and Hunter left for Hunter's band practice. Lisa, Jimmy, Virginia, Dave and I sat around and they shared stories from Dave's childhood. They asked me about my parents and brother and if I had any other family. I told them I had an aunt from my dad's side and an uncle from my mom's side but I didn't talk to either of them. When Virginia asked me why, I told her that my uncle was an abusive alcoholic and my aunt was a little too into acid to talk to. We eventually decided to head to bed and wait for santa.
