Something In The Way

1. Love Buzz

I entered the party with my friend Hunter and headed towards the basement where the band was playing. I couldn't wait to see my friend Krist perform again with his and Kurt's band Nirvana. He had called me up the other day and told me he was back in town and would be performing at a party with their new drummer. I also couldn't wait to see Kurt. We didn't talk much but we got along and were good friends. He was there whenever I needed a friend and didn't really feel like talking to Krist.

When Hunter and I entered the basement, I looked around for Krist. He was the easiest person to look for because he was tall. I spotted him talking to a guy by the amps and headed towards them. When I got up to Krist, who had his back turned to me, I hugged him from behind. He turned his head to see who ahd hugged him.

"Brittany! My god you're a sight for sore eyes," Krist said as he put an arm out and I moved around him a bit so he could side hug me.

"Long time no see Krist. Where's Kurt?" I asked, noticing he was nowhere to be seen.

"Talking to some blonde," the guy Krist had been talking to replied. He had long brown hair, brown eyes and tattoos. He looked me up and down and smiled at me.

"Ya. He's over there somewhere. Brittany Lane I'd like you to meet our new drummer, Dave Grohl," Krist said.

"Nice to meet you," I responded.

"Like wise," he replied with a nod.

"I'm gonna go get Kurt. We gotta start soon. Oh hey Hunter. I'll be right back," Krist said as he started making his way through the people.

"Hi I'm Dave," Dave said to Hunter and reached his hand out for Hunter to shake. Hunter shook it.

"Hunter. Nice to meet you Dave."

"So what's a girl like you doing at a party like this? You look like you don't fit in," Dave said as he leaned closer to me,

"I come to support Krist and Kurt. Krist has been my next door neighbour for as long as I can remember," I replied.

"So you like the music then?" he asked. Why was he questioning me? I get I'm not the grunge/punk rock type. I was more a girl next door type. I did my school work, stayed home most nights or hung out with Krist and Kurt at whose ever house they decided to hang out at for the night.

"I do," I replied as Krist came back with Kurt and a blonde in tow.

"Holy crap she did show up! Hello Britt," Kurt said when he saw me. He gave me a quick hug before turning around and introducing the blonde, "This is Courtney."

"Hey," she said with a wave.

"Hi," I replied.

"Ok let's go out their and destroy some shit," Kurt said as he picked up his guitar.

Hunter had disappeared and reappeared with drinks for me and him. Krist grabbed his bass as Dave leaned in a and whispered into my ear, "Watch this," before going and sitting behind the drumset. Hunter handed me my drink and I took a sip.

"Do you know that guy?" Courtney asked me.

"No I just met him. Why?" I asked in return.

"Well for one he couldn't stop staring at your ass when Kurt was introducing us. Plus you kinda made a funny face when he leaned into you," she replied as the opening of Love Buzz started. Our conversation would have to wait until after the guys where done.
