Dan trashed his room looking frantically for his car keys in tears.
"Fuck it." He grabbed his hoodie and ran out the door.
He ran as fast as he could, ignoring the pain in his lungs and heart. He took a shortcut, cutting through a few alleyways before reaching his destination. He knocked on the door and glared, with blind rage at the person who opened it.
"We need to talk." Dan said through gritted teeth.
"We were found out Dan. There's nothing we can do. I'm sorry." Cat replied, going to close the door, but Dan lashed his hand out and stopped her.
"What did you tell him? How did he find out?" Dan's body shook from pure rage.
"He caught me in an alley. My kill...things went wrong and I had to slit her throat in public and she screamed. He saw everything and he thought I was behind the other murders. I was scared and I didn't want him to think that was me, so I told him the truth. He didn't believe me at first, so I told him to look in your sketchbook. He must have found it..." Cat looked Dan up and down, noticing he was a complete mess.
"He broke up with me." Dan mumbled, looking past Cat.
"Yeah, well, I don't blame him." Cat shrugged. Dan locked eyes with her again and blinked back tears. He growled, clenched his fists, and pushed Cat backwards with all he had.
Cat screamed and ran farther inside. Dan moved quickly and held her throat against the hallway wall.
"I should have killed you when I had the chance." Dan growled, holding tighter.
Cat thrashed around a few more moments before turning blue; she fell limp. Dan squeezed once more and let her body fall to the floor. He punched the wall and screamed.
"Everything was perfect! And you ruined it! You stupid, stupid b-"
"Dan?" A small voice cut him off.
Dan spun around and his jaw dropped. Phil was standing at the doorway looking horrified...of him. He instantly abandoned his rage and his eyes softened; he felt like a monster under Phil's gaze.
"What are you doing here?" Phil asked. He looked past Dan, noticing Cat's lifeless body on the floor, and his eyes widened.
"Phil I'm sorry..." Dan shook his head and wrapped his shaking arms around himself. Phil stood there speechless.
"Please don't look at me like that...I-I don't want to scare you. I would never hurt you, I swear. I just wanted to protect you." Dan cried. Tears began to fall down Phil's ivory skin and Dan couldn't help but want to comfort him.
"Why didn't you tell me?" Phil asked, coldly, remaining stiff. He pulled the sleeves of his yellow jumper nervously.
"We were s-so happy... how we were...everything was so perfect. I knew you wouldn't understand." Dan explained.
"You betrayed me Dan...you betrayed my trust. You were lying and hurting me this whole time. I can never forgive you for that."
Dan inhaled a shaky breath.
"I know I-I fucked up, Phil. But I love you so so much, more than anything in the world. We can run away together from all of this. I just need you to see things from my point of view and understand I did it for us I did it because I love you." Dan sobbed. He couldn't stand seeing Phil like this. He moved forward, stretching out his hands to hold him. He wrapped his arms around Phil's neck and kissed his cheek in an effort to comfort him. A loud bang suddenly echoed through the house. Dan's eyes widened; he stiffened and reached his hand down, feeling a familiar thick, warm substance on his stomach. He looked up at Phil with a mixture of sadness, fear, pain, and love. Phil dropped the gun to the floor.
Dan stumbled forward, losing his balance, and Phil caught him. Phil meekly lowered them to the ground and held Dan's head his lap. Dan's jaw quivered as he held his bleeding wounds. Phil looked down at his weak form and cursed at himself for still feeling any kind of love or sympathy for the dying boy.
"Oh my god, Dan. I-I panicked I-"
"It's fine Phil. It is. It's for the best. I see that now." Dan gasped through pained breaths. Phil lifted his hand and moved Dan's curling fringe out of his eyes.
"If this is my last chance to say it. I love you, Phil. I mean it. I love you. Everything I did was for you." Dan spoke.
Phil felt his chest tighten and he choked back a sob. He had to go and fall for a psychopath.
Phil shook his head after a moment.
"What you have isn't love Dan...it's obsession and envy. You can't love me...because I don't think you can love anyone."
"No that's not true. I've loved you ever since you rescued me from those bullies when we were 12." Dan gasped again as a shock of pain erupted from his stomach.
"Dan...If you could love, you would feel something for all those people you killed. You would feel guilt eating away at you every day we were together because you knew you had murdered so many people I cared about. Hell, you just murdered my friend and tried to justify it." Phil's voice shook. "You're a psychopath, Dan...and psychopaths aren't capable of feeling real love."
"...I love you... I loved you, but you could never love me. You just latched on to the first person to show you any sort of kindness." Phil finished. He felt a cold wind pick up and pulled his jumper off to cover Dan's shivering form.
Sounds of sirens began to grow in the distance.
Dan held his shaking hand up to Phil's cheek.
"I'm sorry, Phil....for everything."
A tear fell down Dan's cheek and he looked up with sorry eyes at his favorite blue irises once more. He slowly exhaled and his hand fell limp at his side.
