I'm looking at giving this story a name change, I would appreciate any suggestions! Thanks for reading too!!
--------------------I brushed down the back of my horse, before picking his from left hoof up with my hand, making sure there was nothing stuck around his hood and that they were clean. I gave him a quick pat and then turned around to check Amber was ok, with my other horse.
The Director had come in earlier this morning and was currently talking with Luke down in the office. He had been shown our herd of horses out in the paddock, and then the few Luke thought would be perfect for the actual actors.
'Nervous' Amber said, turning to face me, as she put the brush down she was using on Patriot.
'Not really?' I said, I had been performing to some degree with horses since I was about 15, both riding and then with Cavalia. I leant over to give Patriot a quick pat, looking down at my wrist to notice it was almost time for us to be out in the arena. 'Can you lead him out whilst I grab Soldier?'
Amber nodded, untying the lead rope from the bailing twine, and started walking him out of the stable, whilst I did the same with Soldier. We walked down into the arena in silence, and one we were all inside, Amber slipped off Patriots halter and I let him have some freedom in the arena, whilst I worked with Soldier to perfect one last movement.
I took a step back, using a hand gesture, for Soldier to walk backwards, and then to turn away from me, performing a 180 circle on his back legs, before I walked around to face him again. I gave him a quick pat and then reached into my pocket to grab a sugar cube for him.
I took his halter off and then let him run around with Patriot whilst I waited for Luke and the director to walk down. I walked over to the fence when I saw this walk down, and Luke introduced us to each other.
'Terrence this is Jocelyn, she's our main liberty horse trainer, and her horses are the ones we were discussing earlier for the two main actors' Luke said, as we shook hands.
'Nice to meet you Jocelyn' Terrence said, looking behind me.
I turned and realised Soldier and Patriot were both playing with each other, pawing at the sand in the arena, and I hoped they both wouldn't decide to roll right now.
I nodded to Terrence and Luke before walking over to my two horses, they both stopped pawing and turned to look at me, I ran my hands down their backs and then sent them off along the edge of the arena fence at a trot.
I walked into the middle of the arena next to the box like yesterday, raising my hand both horses turned around coming towards me and then I had them halt about 2 metres from me.
I asked them to turn in a half circle, they both did the movement in sync with each other and I asked for them to do it again. I walked up to stand next to Patriot whilst I sent Soldier forward asking him to canter around us in a circle. I stepped forward giving Patriot a quick pat and then asked him to join Soldier in the circular movement.
With both horses cantering around smoothly I asked them both to halt so they'd stood opposite each other and I asked Soldier to step up to the box in the arena and I walked next to him.
Placing a reassuring pat on his withers I stepped onto the box and then jumped into his back effortlessly. I focused on my balance for a moment before asking him to step away from the box.
We walked in a circle around the box , before I asked him to go into a trot, gaining better balance as we then went up into a canter. I held my hands up in his name, giving me some leverage as I didn't have any reins.
