~ (y/n)'s P.O.V. ~

"How are you, (y/n)?" I jumped, looking quickly behind me. It was only Ben. Guilt washed over me as he smiled and sat down beside me. Because of his time spent running or building, plus my nightmares, I hadn't talked to Ben much in the past month.

"I'm alright." I shrugged, holding my knees as I looked across the Glade. "How are you?"

"I'm good." I nodded and we were both quiet for a moment, then Ben looked at me. "How bad are they getting?" I sighed.

"I'm not sure. Sometimes I remember, sometimes I don't. They've been more frequent. "

"How is Newt?" I felt my cheeks heat at the quick change in topic. This was the last week of the third month since Newt first came here. Since he has come here, we've grown close quickly, as he constantly stayed up with me to help with my nightmares or when I couldn't sleep, and while his happened less frequently, I did the same for him.

"Newt is good, tired sometimes, but good." Ben let out a soft laugh as me being flustered.

"Well Alby and I had a proposition for the two of you, as we've noticed the nightmares are more frequent, especially on more active nights from whatever is in the Maze." I perked my head up.

"How'd you guys figure that out?" Ben shrugged.

"Only had to stay up a few nights and talk a bit to Newt to figure it out. Our proposition, though, was to build a bigger homestead, like a separate one, and we'd obviously keep Newt with you because he helps you. It would be ready in a week or two, but you-" A scream rang through the Glade, making me freeze. I looked towards the open door, pushing myself up. I knew that scream.

"Newt!"

"(y/n), no!" I took off from Ben towards the door without a second thought, only that I needed to get to Newt, I needed to help-

I was yanked back once I reached the entry way.

"What are you doing, (y/n)?" I turned, facing Gally and then I pushed away from him. Other Gladers had come close to us.

"Newt is in there, you heard him!"

"You don't know what's in there, (y/n)." His voice was stern as he looked at me. I shook my head.

"It doesn't matter. I can't lose him. I can't." I stepped back towards the Maze, then I turned to run. I had to hurry. There was only minutes until the doors closed.

When I turned the first corner in the Maze, I saw Minho and Newt running near the end of the corridor. Behind them, a huge bulbous creature followed them. As they all came closer, I saw the creature had many legs, spikes, and shears on its surface, as well as a large scorpion like tail.

"Come on! You can do it!" I frantically waved the two boys down the path, feeling more fear build in my chest as the tail swung towards Newt. I screamed when it grabbed him, then it threw him forward. He landed only a few feet away from me. I ran to him.

"Come on, Newt, stay awake." Newt blinked rapidly at me as I helped him up, but as soon as one of his legs got weight put on it, Newt cried out. I winced at his shout, turning him around.

"You shouldn't... have come." Newt huffed as I helped him to the corner.

"I couldn't leave you." When I turned the corner, Ben was running towards us. He quickly looped an arm to help me support Newt. Down the corridor, the creature screeched. I looked to Ben. "We have to try to run, that thing is coming too fast." Ben nodded, not wanting to look. Ben quickly counted to three, then we took off the best we could while carrying Newt. With every few shifts, Newt groaned in pain. Despite our slowed pace in running, we made it to the doors. I looked behind us as Ben passed Newt to the Med-jacks. Newt's eyes were fluttering as Clint and Jeff held him.

Minho had just turned the corner as the doors began to close. The rest of the Gladers and I yelled for him to run faster, especially when the creature turned the corner, close behind Minho. For a split moment, I wondered what would happen if the creature made it past the doors too.

Minho barely made it through the doors, and the space was too small for the creature to fit through. Gladers cheered around us, slapping Minho on the back in congratulations. I turned from the creature, wanting to join in the cheering, but something quickly snaked itself around my waist. I looked down, seeing metal glint along my waist, then I was yanked into the air screaming. I saw the Gladers look at me, shout, but by the time they had seen me I was through the door. It slid shut behind me.

I blinked my eyes open, slowly waking up. There was a dull ache in my foot and leg. I tried to sit myself up, but a hand gently pushed me down and Clint came into my line of sight.

"Slow progress, buddy. Your leg was hurt pretty bad, you just don't feel it because I gave you pain meds." I stared up at him for a moment, swallowing and nodding. Clint went to walk away but I cleared my throat, stopping him.

"Where... where is (y/n)?" Clint frowned, looking away from me. "Clint?"

"Ben is here to see you." I listened as Clint walked away, and as Ben came forward.

"Hey Newt. Your fall was bad, lucky you're alive." I shook my head as he sat on the side of my bed.

"I barely remember what happened."

"Some monster in the Maze was chasing you and Minho, it grabbed you and tossed you like a ball. But we got you out." I scrunched my eyes at Ben.

"Why won't you say her name?" Ben looked at me, eyes widening and he blinked at me. It took me a moment to realize he was blinking to keep tears away. "Ben, what in the bloody hell happened? Where is (y/n)?!" I shifted to lean up a little on my arms. Clint wasn't in the room to stop me.

Ben looked at his hands, drumming his fingers against each other. I stared at him, a sinking feeling in my stomach.

"Ben, did she get stuck in the Maze helping me? Don't tell me you left her there!" Ben looked at me, eyes brimming.

"She got out with you." My heart pounded in my chest as Ben swallowed. "But it grabbed her as the doors closed. You were already passed out and carried off. Newt, I'm sorry, I-" My chest contracted as I exhaled. I tried to take in another breath, but I couldn't. (y/n) was stuck in the Maze, those monsters were going to kill her, and tomorrow Ben and Minho would have to run in and find-

"Newt come on, breathe." Ben was up, patting roughly on my back as I way to get me to take in another breath. I sucked in a breath, coughing.

"You- I-" I felt the tears come to my eyes, feeling hollow as I sat there. I felt stupid crying as Ben rubbed at my back. I knew he was losing someone as well.

"They're Greivers." I whispered through a shaky gasp.

"What?" I looked at Ben.

"The monsters. They're Grievers. That's what WICKED calls them." Ben looked at me oddly. "I don't know how I know I just-" Faintly, there was a screech from one of the creautures. We sat there, silent as (y/n) yell followed, echoing in my ears. A new horror set on me as I realized that was what I would be listening to all night. I closed my eyes as she screamed again, putting hands over my ears. The only person that could make this better was (y/n), and she may never come back through those doors.
