Five years later~
"Listen, Mads, I'm not the one who decided you're all getting partners. Especially you." Shadow sighed, leaning against the gym wall. "We all know you hate working in teams."
"I'm not nearly as upset about getting a partner as I am about it being a newb...and a boy..." I hissed, adjusting the straps and buckles securing my weapons. "This guy, whatever his name is, will never be able to keep up with me. I'm.... I'm just worried about the outcome of this decision..."
"So am I, but we've all gotta follow orders. Doc said that this is for the best, too, if that helps any. She said you could use a partner and that you're alone too often." He smiled, laughing lightly.
"Well, if Doc thinks it's okay, I'm sure it can't be too bad, right?" I mumbled, crossing my arms and looking down at the floor. "When does... When does he get here?"
"He'll be done with his physical in an hour. Then you're responsible for training him. Remember, go easy on the guy. Please." I flinched at that last word, out of a residual instinct, and then took a deep breath. "His name, his new name, is Gen. I hope you'll figure out how to interact, sweetheart. Good luck." He waved lazily and headed out silently.
I quickly and sloppily removed my weapons before heading towards the locker rooms. I threw the dark metal things in my locker before locking it and heading towards the medical level.

Doc, my best friend, had been the one to do Gen's physical. Once she was finished, she walked him out and introduced us. He swayed on his feet, most likely from the injections. When being introduced into the agency, they take blood samples and urine samples and implant a tracker into the back of your neck. Along with several physical tests, it can be rather strenuous.
"Hello, I'm your new partner, Maddy. It's nice to meet you." I muttered, looking at my feet. Doc wrapped an arm around Gen and smiled sadistically.
"Mads, I didn't hear that. You have to be loud and clear when you speak." She teased, cocking her head. Her long, braided, auburn hair fell over her shoulder.
"Hi, Maddy. I'm Gen." He yawned, putting a hand out to shake. I slowly and gently took his hand in mine, and he lazily shook it. I took my hand back carefully, never looking up, as he did the same. He shrugged Doc off before walking over and standing next to me.
"Oh, and Mads, he's rooming with you, where I used to live. Forgot to tell you about that, ha, my bad. Be careful with him, you know..." She sighed, turning around. "I've got a lot of work to do, see ya sis."
"...See ya..." I waved, watching as she walked away. I turned towards the tall, toned boy next to me. He had dark brown hair, and the under layer was shaved. He had dark green eyes, and he looked so, so sad. "So, Gen, follow me. I'll show you your new home."
"Alright." He mumbled, staring at me. We began walking towards the elevator, and I decided to talk about the building.
"This floor is the medical level. Its the highest floor. The floor below us is where the medics and stuff live. Under that floor is three floors full of spies and assassins. Under those three, there's a floor with a gym and stuff to train and workout. There's even a pool. The floor below that one is the first floor, it has a lobby, a library, and the cafeteria for those who don't make their own food. To the outsiders, this is a high class apartment building." I explained as we rode the elevator. "Our quarters are on floor four."
"This place is really nice..." He sighed, staring at our reflections in the shining elevator doors.
"It helps to make up for what we do for a living." I muttered, looking down at the floor.
